I'm basically dead inside and somehow, through some miracle the Han death scene managed to make me really emotional. There was something really special about it for me.

The only thing I really hated about the movie was Death Star 3.0. I felt like it was a bit too lazy climax considering the movie already had ton of callbacks. Should have been anything else.

I hope VIII really tries to be it's own thing (or the other movie coming next year).

edit: I actually really liked Kylo Ren. I thought he would be a total ripoff of Vader but I really liked how he is portrayed as kinda inexperienced when dealing with another force user and of course the Light Side temptation where he admits it without being like ''there is only the Dark Side blah blah''.

I read the spoilers because i was doubtful.
Spoilers convinced me it would be pretty good probably.
Loved the film.

I am normally very annoyed about spoilers but then i rarely choose to be spoiled.

Going blind to EP8 though. Which means i will have to stop reading and posting in SW threads because of idiots who spoil things by accident or purpose.

Thinking about doing this...not sure if my will is strong enough.

So Kylo is the last of the Knights of Ren according to Snoke.

Where can I listen to the soundtrack? I have it pre-ordered on iTunes but apparently everyone is listening to it in here lol.

The film mirrored ANH super closely, which I'm okay with. But if this whole trilogy kinda just goes through this note for note, I'll be a little disappointed. The most obvious way they can go is eventually redeem Kylo, and have him turn on Snoke (probably last minute -- a la Vader in RotJ). That's too much, I almost hope at the end of Episode 8, the end of RotJ basically plays out, Kylo goes to stop Snoke -- and Snoke just fucking ends him on the spot. If not that, I want them to double-down of Ren's villainy, straight up, no redemption, surpassing Snoke. I understand playing it this safe (killing Han was ballsy, although it's in line with ANH, so less so) for the first film, I just hope they mix it up going forth. Considering Rian Johnson is directing the next entry, I've high expectations for something tonally very different.

Also I didn't really like that spinning helicopter shot of Rey holding the saber up to Luke, it felt like that whole scene went on too long, like it was waiting for the music to finish -- the blocking of having her just hold it as they stared at one another was a bit awkwardly staged. I feel like it just needed a shot of Luke taking off the hood, Rey holding up the sabre, wide shot of them facing one another, shot of Luke, close on shot of Rey -- or just cut from wide to Rey. Maybe it wasn't as over the top as I remembered, but it felt overlong.

Also, on the subject of Luke, remember that shot in the dream sequence, with Luke's(?) hand on R2, was that not actually Luke like most speculated? The robotic hand in that shot looked more sophisticated than Luke's hand in the final scene, or am I imagining things.

Amazon accidently released the digital version for a brief time last night. so quick people grabbed it as fast as they could

Are there people in here reading and watching major spoilers before even seeing the movie? Man, I could never do that, would totally suck.
Hi!

Seeing the movie on Friday. It's one thing to know what happens, it's another to see it all come together onscreen with the music and effects.

I'm weird with spoilers. Shows and some movies, I don't mind. Always looking for TWD spoilers. But games and books, no thank you. Don't want to be spoiled on those

I thought that was pretty clearly meant to be Luke with R2.

I have always spoiled myself on all the movies/TV shows that I enjoy (SW prequels, Lost, GoT, Walking Dead, etc.). It has never hurt my enjoyment of said movie/show. But of course, I have no basis for comparison.

I have always been an impatient person and I just 'gotta know now!'. I would make a terrible Jedi.

Yeah. I reallllllly love this scene. It's perfect imo. Man, when Han places his hand against Kylo's face right before he falls off the ledge just kills me. Damn I can't wait to see this on the big screen. I can't wait to see my son's reaction lol.

Thanks for sharing that man. Most of us have known for months that Han's going down, and I'm sure I'd be an absolute mess going in blind and seeing that. Can't wait to see the audiences reaction.

Haha, okay. I guess I was wondering if she sees action or is basically just set-dressing in this film like Boba Fett in Empire.

Well, Boba had a function in Empire (part of Solo and depts sub-plot) and Phasma has a function here.

Boba in RotJ was set-dressing really...

I actually thought she literally was Boba Fett of the movie.

Well, she is.

I did say things depend on your definition.

From a certain point of view...

You see phasma some but she's definitely minor
It's defnitely luke with R2 in the vision, they show his hand in the last scene and it's the same

Rey Skywalker, Finn Calrissian (or maybe just Finn, he may not have "relevant" parents at all)

Sure. I do it for almost every movie and game. I get a picture of what happens, and can determine whether I'll like it enough to spend my money on it.

It doesn't change how much I'll enjoy the directing, the acting, the cinematography, or even the plot itself.

There is like, a random General that has more presence than her. Forgot his name but I don't think I have even seen him in promo material. Think something like Tarkin.

Hux isn't random, he is like the human leader of the First Order.
Though curiously, Hux doesn't have much impact on the plot, unlike Phasma...

For me, it removes the frustration of my brain revving up too much as I inevitably try to predict what's going to happen next. Frequently, I'll get so lost in my own mind that I'll miss what is actually happening. It doesn't make for good first viewing. If I get spoilers, I can appreciate a story in the first place for what it is and not what I'm imagining it might be.

I meant it as ''just another guy'' without any flashy outfit :).

And I thought he was built up to be much more important than Phasma. He even had a sort of rivalry with Ren.

I've seen Adam Driver only in HBO's Girls. I didn't know he was playing Kylo Ren. It took me a while to get rid of the image I have of him as a crazy sex maniac. But with the mask on he was really cool. I liked the voice too.

I loved the movie. Star Wars is back. With a bang.

WHen I think about it, Rey might be a Kenobi after all.

I hope not. I hope she has no connection to any of the previous known characters. The universe is big enough for unique individuals.

Did Hux die? I kind of lost track near the end.
No way. He's the one who will get Ren out of there as instructed by Snook (I really hate this name :lol). They wouldn't kill him off screen.

Yup, very clearly, Snoke says he is the last of the Knights of Ren. Damn, oh well. Wonder if Luke took them all out...even though Snoke is obviously using Kylo for now.

So the lightsabers in the final duel sparked due to Kylo's being a different energy right?

Probably? Or it could be just a visual effects thing.
Not all of those are canon really.

EDIT Remember, Ren's sword radiates heat (has visible heat waves) unlike a normal lightsaber.
So, Kylo Ren has a sword of fire...

Pretty cool that the leaked Luke Skywalker imaged turned out to be correct (Or am I off? It does seem pretty much identical to what was in the movie.)

Was the Twitter-debunked leaked Snoke image not also correct? There seemed to be a lot of similarities, but what was actually seen in the movie was perhaps a later version of his design?

Since Kylo is the last of the knights, the rainy night scene with the Knights of Ren is probably from the night Kylo came back to Luke's dojo after being disgraced.

Yeah it's the same costume for Luke and from what I've seen of Snoke the image closely resembles the concept art of the pic the gaffer put up last week sometime.

Now that I had some time to let it sink in. JJ really messed up the assault on Starkiller base. ROTJ's climax is leagues beyond this one. As a viewer I absolutely had no connection with the pilots in the sky apart from 'that cockpit view was cool'. Like the way there is a 'trench run' is stupidly handled. Ooh there is a hole there, we need to fly through the 'trench' basically for reminding people that this happened in the OT.

100% agreed, in terms of directing it was by far the worst part of the movie.
I also cringed when the guy explains the premise of the sunlight being drained as a ticking clock. Pure contempt for the audience in that line.

Grievous just one rank above Jar Jar? Fuck that

Fuck Grievous
