God I still have the soundtrack playing in my head. Need it to be released on spotify. When the resistance showed up at Maz Kanata's castle and the music kicked in... chills.

So much this. In just 1 movie and fairly limited screen time, Driver managed to sell the good/evil conflict 100x better than Hayden ever did in 3 movies. Better writing and directing obviously helped too, but Driver really nailed the part. From the moment he took his mask off I was in love with the character. He went from "generic evil villain", to damaged, complex young man with an inner conflict.

Wow, complete opposite for me. First 30-40 minutes or so I was still a bit hesitant. Felt it got better and better though. Last half of the movie was constant chills for me.
 
Luke looks so badass. He's got that old wise mentor Jedi look on lock.

I did find it a bit strange Rey was so good with the light saber in the fight against Kylo Ren. Then again, she's good with the staff, as seen in the fight against the two guys who try to steal BB-8. I just expected Kylo Ren to give her a harder time, he must've had way more training with his custom made saber.

I do like the way they set up Kylo and Rey though, a lot of opportunity for growth in both characters. Wonder what they're going to do with Finns character.

Yeah he got fucked up in the shoulder, leg and side
They insisted a bit too much on it against finn to show that he couldn't beat him in an even fight, finn is definitely the han solo of the new trilogy

I agree, I felt that old cast returning was totally well done. Is it pandering? Certainly, but the only real pompous reveal was of Luke.

I also disagree with the Kylo Ren real-face hate, the guy is all sorts of messed up. He acts messed up and he looks messed up, it's actually very fitting. I think the actor pulled off his scenes very well. From what I understood, the mask was there because Kylo Ren wanted to be like Darth Vader, like it is his fetish. He didn't need to wear it, he just thought it was cool. i also don't think it was there to conceal his identity, so he has no qualms about taking it off.

Yeah I think he was fine, his goofiness was kind of the point, he's the ultimate fan boy wanting to please his "daddy" and rebel against his real father, he showed conflict and childish short-temperedness repeatedly.
 
Just came back from seeing it, and it was great. Not perfect - I agree with people here about the destruction of the Death Star 3.0 being a lackluster way to finish ( the battle-scene was paced pretty poorly, and I would have loved to see the destroyer planet as a threat that continues throughout the new trilogy, if only because every shot of it harnessing power from a star was amazing ). But great.

And why was it great? A myriad of reasons. The new actors did a great job - their characters were interesting, and I am especially excited about Rey ( they really set her up as the "new hope" ). Harrison Ford was a joy to watch as Solo, which made his death-scene ( even though it was telegraphed a bit too early ) a hard thing to swallow. Kylo Ren is an interesting villain - I really liked the fact that he was "angsty" and not as physically imposing as Vader was.

I really liked the look of the film. I mean, I really, really liked it. The attention to detail was amazing, and it really grounded the film into the ( fantastical ) universe. They put a lot of thought into "how this weapon / fighter / droid etc. would behave in this world, and interact with the environment". Really great stuff. Also, the aerial scenes - especially the first one with the Millennium Falcon - were just phenomenal.

I am now eagerly anticipating the next installment - something I haven't done ( with Star Wars ) since '99. This, my friends, is a nice feeling.
 
Just watched the Collider movie talk today. Props to them for admitting they were wrong about Plagueis. They still can't be trusted for anything.
 
ALSO: Right after Rey puts her foot in Ren's chest, it cuts to her face and for a sec there... it looks like she's thinking about letting the dark side in. And it looks like Ren senses that too.

just for a sec, though.

Let's just say this movie ignited a new hope in me for the Star Wars franchise.

Ha ha ha.

But no, really, it was fantastic.
It felt real, it felt human. That lightsaber fight at the end? The locale was interesting, the choreography MEANT things. The light of hope allegory was like 10/10 would let that guy write every movie ever.

I really loved Finn and Boyega did a great job. He was kind of a knucklehead with a heart of gold. Just things like his horror at the First Order murdering that village, or his glee at telling Han there was a trash compactor they could shove his old boss into. Might be my favourite new character, but then I pretty much felt all the new characters were great.

I thought so, but it's kind of ambiguous since they never name it. Though that's certainly the implication since the First Order said they were destroying the Senate which I assume was still on Coruscant?

Maybe I missed something.

I must say Finn is great, dude is just so extremely likeable, he and Poe became bros right away, became close with Rey and Han Solo liked the guy.

John Boyega did a terrific job.
