it was all pretty much as expected. stirring moments but i knew disney would never okay a star wars film that either challenged its audience or expected them to be patient enough to take in a bit of world building.
it sort of reminded me of the problems you get in video game writing where you have these particular set pieces the designers have already cooked up and it's your job to string them together.
adam driver is the perfect prequel anakin/vader. not sure if that's a good or bad thing but the film was raised whenever he was on screen. boyega was decent but should've kept his south london accent from attack the block. sad to see han go but he had those post 2000 harrison ford eyes that make you think he was never all there anyway.
the love that went into some of the puppets was probably the highlight of the whole film. could've spent a lot more time on not tatooine just drinking it in.

A New Hope is really the only Star Wars film like that, and that's because they weren't sure if it'd be a standalone movie or not. Empire Strikes back famously ends with the reveal that

I think Finn is force sensitive. This is because of the initial scene where Kylo Ren stops and looks at him. If Finn wasnt sensitive, why would he stop Kylo in his tracks?

Because Finn was the only one that wasn't doing his job.... Which by the way was another aspect of the movie that asked for explanation. For 5 movies now we've seen Storm Troopers as more or less mindless shooting dummies. Now one of them just turns good for.... reasons.

Kylo Ren is an assumed name plus "title" (Ren), as he is part of the Knights of Ren.

I think he stops because the reason why Finn doesent kill the peasants is because the light side in him doesnt allow him to.
It might be the tinniest bit of light side in him, but it sort of explains why he doesnt kill the people and also explains why Kylo stops to look at him. Its not just a look either, because he obviously check to see who exactly this guy is.
But yeah, out of all the new characters, Finn has the most open story for the next two films.
You know Rey and Kylo are going to be trained up and max up their skills. Poe will continue to be a pilot for he resistance. But you dont know what Finn is going to do.
He turns good because he is force sensitive, thats my take on it.

I mean, that's kind of noticeable.
I'm not saying it's not a possibility. It could be the sort of thing Johnson also notices and decides to turn it into what you're saying. It's an open door, definitely, and it makes perfect sense that you'd spot that moment and take it in that direction. I can see it.
But it could also simply be that a short, fairly freaked out Stormtrooper got caught staring at the baddest bad guy in a 10 mile radius, and Kylo made note of that.

I loved this film. Thought it was absolutely amazing. Acting was really good all around, though Daisy caught me off guard with how good she was.
I didn't actually get the feeling of a retread, to me it felt like it's own thing.
I need to do a rewatch in 2D and with less people to get a full grasp on it.

I know, it just seems so out of place when you look at the role Storm Troopers played in the series so far. For all I care you can interpret that as a critisism on how Storm Troopers have been portraied in Ep 2-6. It's like if you would watch Lord of the Rings and suddenly an Orc turns good and helps Frodo.

They were clones in Ep2-3 I believe. Ep4-6 I think makes it pretty obvious they are just regular soldiers. They weren't portrayed like orcs or mindless drones.

Three things stood out:
1: The Nazi Imagery is STRONG with this one, Holy SHIT!
2: Did.. Did they just blow up Coruscant?!
3: The whole Kylo Ren being Darth Caedus/Jacen Solo seemed a TOUCH hamfisted in the explanation..
And I'm already seeing that Rey is a Genderswap of Anakin Solo...

I'm sure it has been addressed many times over the years but you have to wonder why if blood and family ties can be such an advantage when it comes to The Force and Jedi etc.... why they use the NO SEXY TIME policy.

The entire movie is about a bunch of confused tourists trying to find Kerry on an outdated map, happens everyday in Ireland.
Something else I liked that I didn't really think about till later: Kylo's major force power is to make things freeze in their tracks. He doesn't force push. He doesn't pull them closer. He doesn't even choke them. He literally makes them stand still and then walks his way up to them to do the dirty work.
Considering how he treated the console and that torture chair, that would be a terrifying experience.
