safe, sure, but there was some new stuff
Also killing off han ain't no joke
yep, safe, but also daring enough to kill off Han and leave Luke just for the end.

Yeah I liked the depiction of the force in this movie. I just hope by the 3rd movie they make new strides in movie sword fighting, so I can safely say they would destroy any previous jedi/sith I've seen in a fight. Especially with the Raid guys on board, what a waste to not make some masterful fights.
- Any good lightsaber duels in this?...nope. In fact there are no memorable moments whatsoever except for one death. But even that was executed poorly...
- Any cool environments? No...Seriously this is Star Wars and all we got was the most boring, generic environments possible
Best part of the movie was when the two troopers noped out of the corridor when Ben was raging.
5/10
- I hated Finn....why is he in the movie, who gives a shit about him??
.
5/10 for me. Big disappointment from my side.
- It's a remake of ep4...The movie got 100% predictable, boring and pointless after about half of playtime. I wanted a new chapter in the saga, not the same movie again.

don't forget the fact that, the very first time we get a shot of the resistance base, we see 2 pilots - one male, one female.
It's not just the lead, the whole movie is super gender balanced. It's almost ridiculous.
* do you consider the dance numbers in the prequels "good duels"? because i consider the duel between Rey and Kylo Ren to be fantastic.
* There were aliens everywhere? The scrap dealer. Maz Kanata had a rather big role. More valuable than JarJar, that's for sure. Snoke doesn't look all that human. There were multiple non-human resistance pilots.
i wonder how big the share of people was that did repeat viewings of JW or if it simply drew such a huge crowd for a single viewing.
Avatar was certainly big on repeat viewings, because it was almost kind of a "theme park ride", Titanic was even bigger because it was a ... fantastic movie with a romance story that girls loved to go watch and tear up.
I wouldn't be able to name an attribute of JW that warrants repeat viewing.
"Ewww, a girl?! ... great job pandering to SJW, Force!"
When he took of his hood, i, sadly, audibly said "oh yeah." when we were shown his majestic mane. I was expecting his red-carpet hairdo, really.
What she seemed pissed as fuck because of Han's death, the look on her face after she pulls the saber, and the hate she strikes him with is thereThe lightsaber duel was kind of forgettable. The duels in the original trilogy managed to be more than just sword poking, they're key scenes in portrayal of the characters, but this duel didn't feel like it was much about the characters at all. Rey didn't seem vulnerable, she didn't really seem scared, or angry or anything.

Overall my new rankings for the SW films:
V>IV>VI=VII>>>>>>>>>>>I>>>>III>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>getting a Candiru up my urethra>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>II
Best part of the movie was when the two troopers noped out of the corridor when Ben was raging.
Is it definitely "Ben" that Han shouts when confronting Kylo Ren?

Hmm, well I'm going again on Saturday will re-evaluate.
Yay! I agree with this ranking. Although the awesome finale (space battle + duel) of Jedi might tip the balance slightly in favour of it. Compared to A New Hope though I thought this one was slightly worse, it just doesn't come together as well at the end, nor is the middle as strong.
Well....where to start.
Cheeseball dialogue, especially from Finn
Lacklustre Soundtrack
Paced WAY too fast
But I loved it.
Every single second it was on screen I remembered WHY I loved the SW universe. I totally buy Daisy Ridley as a "dangerously close to the dark side at points" badass. I totally buy Kylo Ren as a spoiled kid who doesn't want to behave. And I totally buy BB-8 as just literally adorable....I want one.
I cried big sloppy tears at Han dying, but I do have to say the returning cast were the least good part of the film.....I wanted more of the new guys, especially Poe who barely got any screen-time!
The one flaw that won't go away, though, is the dreadful CGI leader....what on earth was going on there. What is this, pre-Phantom Menace? Watto looked more realised and part of the world. I know it was just a hologram but it looked really poorly done.

Yes, she was really mad at someone for killing a person she had known for 5 minutes...
I feel like characers was just "stumpling" upon each other and "Ok We are best friends now!!"
RotJ has the advantage of being a rather "clean" movie, insofar that there's not as much lore, origin story, exposition they have to cram into a single movie.Hmm, well I'm going again on Saturday will re-evaluate.

It's the day after, and what I'm most impressed by now is how good the acting was overall. There are no real standout bad or cringeworthy scenes, aside from maybe the Han/Leia scene where they talk about Ren. Finn and Rey did a standout job, and I can only see that improving in the coming movies. Ep VIII has some true potential now.
I'd say for all the references to ANH (also structurally), I feel the strong characters and acting make it stand on its own. They never went overboard with the fan service either. To those saying the movie's too safe... I guess you're right, I can see that. But I'd rather have this than a failed experiment.
The only real letdown for me was the soundtrack. The only memorable bits were all reprises from OT themes.
Most of all though, this movie showed that SW is fun again: there's a lot of goofy stuff, and BB8 is a star. That scene where he does a thumbs up with his lighter... I lost it, and the theatre as well. 'Droid please' was a great line, had to be ad-libbed.
I expected a bigger reaction in the theatre when 'In a galaxy...' showed up, but there was a big applause when the credits started rolling, which was awesome.

Yeah.
Thanks. That's what I thought but I already see debates erupting on various forums.Yes, watched it with subtitles, it's Ben.
I dunno, I really liked some of the new additions. That motif that plays when we first meet Rey is beautiful.
Luke knew Ben. It just seems like Owen told Ben to stay out of sight at one point because he didn't want Ben filling Luke's head with ideas.RotJ has the advantage of being a rather "clean" movie, insofar that there's not as much lore, origin story, exposition they have to cram into a single movie.
The final act of TFA had to(?, well, did) encompass: A father son confrontation (Empire), losing the mentor (Mid ANH), Blowing up a shield generator thing (RotJ), Attacking the superweapon (ANH / RotJ), Rescuing a friend (or meeting her once she's rescued herself) (mid ANH, or beginning RotJ)
they crammed a lot of stuff into TFA's final act because they (felt they) needed to.
I somehow agree. Not giving the audience a proper pay-off (fight with the villain, landing a crushing military blow) would have hurt the overall movie even more.
Again the distortion field
You do remember that Luke knew Ben Kenobi for pretty much only a few hours, yet he was still super mopy and had to be covered in a blanket by leya at the space-chess table inside the falcon.
* 1 1/2 speeder ride to Kenobi's hut and then to Mos Eisley
* 1 hyperspace flight from Tatooine to Alderaan to the Death star.
Rey spent more time with Han Solo than Luke did with Ben Kenobi, thankyouverymuch.
Dude's a legend everybody knows about
She had known him for longer than that too
But hey you're the guy saying "why is he in the movie, who gives a shit about him??" about Finn without any more arguments so I'll just assume you're a hater
It worked for Luke and Ben...
Luke knew Ben. It just seems like Owen told Ben to stay out of sight at one point because he didn't want Ben filling Luke's head with ideas.
oh yeahLuke knew Ben all his life...
Would be one hell of a coincidence if Rey ends uo being a Skywalker who gets in the midst of the things despite being separated from everything and not having any Obi Wan like character to bring her back.
Finn saves Poe, helps Rey escape Jakku, gives valuable info to the resistance in order to destroy the starkiller, helps Rey vs Ren and I'm probably forgetting some stuff
But you're probably mad because they picked a black lead so I won't bother too much with you anymore
Not unusual for this series. Luke buying his father's droids is also a big coincidence.
All those years of voicing Joker would do that to you. And the pain of getting in shape for a 2 minute sceneI was a bit underwhelmed with Luke's reveal. I was expecting a more surprising and decisive showing, even if only at the end.
It was a bit weird. He was just standing there. I also didn't like that he looks almost exactly like Ben Kenobi. I loved the look on his face though. I was sold on his pain and sorrow. Dude looks miserable.

I never saw it like that. He knows what he looks like, and on tatooine I think that means they have to have seen eachother around.well, "knew"
he was aware of his existence. He didn't even know Kenobi fought in the clone wars, was a friend of his father's.
The conversation they have inside Kenobi's hut clearly seems like the first in-depth conversation / bonding moment the both of them have, and Kenobi's all about telling Luke about his father, the force and handing him a light saber.
I don't think they had any real relationship before that.
Rey knew stories about Han Solo, he's legendary. He's kind of a hero to her from the get-go. Remember the look in her eyes, when she's offered a job ... by Han Solo?!
All those years of voicing Joker would do that to you. And the pain of getting in shape for a 2 minute scene![]()
I know exposition is generally a dirty word nowadays, but the film needed a little more time spent on the galaxy building. Just a few lines here or there could have helped lay out each faction as well as set up the villains motivations. There was virtually no reaction to what Starkiller base had just done, or enough worry about what it may represent for the galaxy.
Maybe it was 2 minutes because he wasn't quite in shape yet?
I think he looks better in recent photos than he did in the movie, that robe was hiding a belly.
EDIT. That said, I didn't feel like it was unnatural for Rey to behave the way she did when Han died. He was clearly a mentor to her. What was weirder to me, was how little screen time was alotted to chewie getting over loosing his friend for 40 years. In the end he doesn't seem that bothered. Should have allotted a scene in the end of him moping about.
So how long till Snoke is revealed to be Palpy?
Guys. GUYS:
I figured it out. I know who Rey is.
She is a Marek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starkiller
