Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

I don't understand, why are Square concerned about Persona? FFXV should sell up to 6 times more than Persona 5.

They're talking about Japan, and there it'd only sell about twice as much if they released separately, so Persona 5 could very well eat half of their sales in Japan.

Shin Megami Tensei IV released here less than a month after the JP release.

Atlus JP is pretty aware of the presence the franchise has in the west now. I really doubt there's no communication between both branches like you seem to imply.

There's no way this will take 6 months to localize.
It's already been shown by Atlus that they dread having release dates in Japan and North America close to each other, that is unless they region lock their games (ie: Persona 4 Arena). This doesn't mean a six month wait, but I highly doubt there would be a simultaneous release for any first party Atlus game between regions.

Also I didn't say there was no communication. What I meant was that Atlus USA are not up to date on where this game is in terms of development and localization, they themselves were absolutely sure that the game would be localized and out in North America by 2015.

Let's say FFXV sells 1.5-2.0 million in Japan. Let's say Persona 5 sells 0.5-1 million in Japan. Now let's they came out on the same day. They would cannibalize each other both having reduced sales which is exactly what Square doesn't want.

Why does Final Fantasy get such a bad rep? One kinda bad game out of 15 great games isn't really a bad track record. If you think the company that invented JRPGs is scared of some company that still makes games for the Vita (lol) I don't know what to tell you.

FF has had heavily polarizing releases since VIII, XIII got even more hate than usual, but I think quite a few people would disagree with the assertion that XIII is the only bad FF.

Either way, it's kind of funny to me that we've been waiting for mainline entries in these two series for what feels like ages, and now we run the risk of them both releasing in the same year.

Next year is going to be fucking nuts.

This looks extremely familiar.

Probably because I broke this several hours ago, but some sites decided to rip it off without credit.

Persona 5 easily for me. I love me some Final Fantasy (including XIII), but what I've seen of XV just hasn't grabbed me. P5, though? Hell yeah. Looks fantastic.

But I find it interesting that this question is even being asked. Like a few others have said, it's not like FFXV is in any danger of being outsold by P5, but I think the gap is going to be closed a lot compared to earlier titles. Persona is a strong brand right now. If Square Enix wants to maximize their early sales, they'd do well to steer clear of such major competition. They might come out ahead in numbers, but it's not a contest either game would benefit from.

Final Fantasy XV and Star Ocean 5 are my most anticipated games for next year. Persona 5 looks really cool and I'll pick it up, but if it has the same randomly generated dungeon design, I'd definitely be a little disinterested. It will be worth it for the characters though.

Episode Duscae was a little bit hype deflating, but I'm still looking forward to XV. I suppose that demo did more harm than good.

Half really? I mean I love Persona but I think you really overestimating how big the Persona name compared to Final Fantasy. It'll not even be a 3/1 split.

The problem is the recent FF outputs have not come anywhere close to the high-quality FF releases of the past. Not to mention, how long it's been since FFXV first started development. Modern Square Enix hasn't really done much to inspire confidence in people.

"Company that still makes games for the vita" is such a terrible strawman. You do realize Atlus releases on the 3DS and home consoles too? Maybe this is just me, but Persona has sold me in far more than FF's recent titles have, and the same is probably true for other people. They're fantastic RPGs.

I just CTRL+F'd every page with 'Persona' and almost spat out my drink - has GAF become weeaboo heaven?!

Persona 4 Golden is a legit 5/10, dungeon design is astrocious and the whole edgy anime character shtick is embarrassing. Okay, the UI is hard - but the rest? Y'all get blinded by your affection for 2D anime characters that are as flat as their character portraits. And now you want another one of those basura Social RPGs (can't believe I'm even typing this)?

Pass. Try again. Or better yet: don't.

FFXV originates from the brilliant mind of jeux-auteur Tetsuya Nomura and will not only sell boatloads of PS4s in Japan but start the age of cinematic RPGs paired with both hyperrealismé and masterful game design. Yes, the last demo was lowkey rough around the edges but that's because it's a game that demands everything from the consoles. I prefer avantgarde open-world action-RPG gameplay to linear, turn-based corridor moé bullshit at any time of the day.

Shame on all of you tbh
Nibel, you are my hero.

Can I say both? if not I've been waiting to play FFXV for years so FFXV, but Persona 5 would be bought literally the next week lol.

They are both very high on my anticipation list.

FF sells about 1-1.5 mill in japan, P4G sold 500k in Japan... On vita. P5 will sell more since it's both on PS3-PS4 than P4G on vita. It could even be worse with the persona 3 movies and the fact that Atlus advertises in Japan.

I'd probably cycle them, but I'd probably say FFXV. I have way more faith in Persona 5, but I've been waiting for FFXV basically for 9 years, 10 by the time it comes out. I need all that shit to be concluded.

Anyone who believes both FFIX is a bad game and Persona 4 is the best game of all time is objectively wrong, so there's that. Square Enix has yet to fully prove themselves, but without SquareSoft Atlus definitely wouldn't exist.

I'd get both because I want to play both. But being in Europe means Atlus will probably be making that decision for me anyway. (Complete with a probable lack of dual audio).

Really not looking forward to potential 6-12months of having to dodge GAF threads and P5 memes so I don't get anything spoiled for me.

Funny you should mention FFIX and P4, both are in my top 5 favorite games of all time. :)

I feel forced to post that Persona 3 is a million times better than Persona 4.

The best thing about 5 is that the tone is closer to 3 and we can put the bad bear jokes to rest.

There's no such thing as "objectively wrong" when it comes to assessing games due to the fact that assessing said games are a matter of subjectivity. You may disagree with such a notion, but there could be a fantastic argument behind that.

Probably getting neither :P. Persona's style/setting/life sim has always kept me away from the series. I see it get so much love online so I often consider taking the plunge but I never end up pulling the trigger. As to FF, I've not played a mainline Final Fantasy since putting XII down part way through. I enjoyed what I played of XIV, but that was an MMO with lots of nods to classic FF. Maybe FFXV will give me a reason to return to the series? From what I've seen/heard it does not look like that is the case, but who knows.

Persona games sell about 1 million WW, FF games do twice as much in Japan alone.

Although maybe Square is expecting huge growth for Persona, which wouldn't surprise me tbh.

Man, this whole thread. I'm sending in our negotiator.

Seriously though, I'd like to think that Square is being conscientious in knowing there's a lot of overlap between the two fanbases and is trying to space it out so people don't have to worry about picking one or the other. (In Japan.)

But I have no effing clue if that's true or not. I don't wanna fight w/ Square.

Also, FFVIII is best FF.
