Square Enix asks fans about if Persona 5/FF15 were out at same time, release hint?

I feel forced to post that Persona 3 is a million times better than Persona 4.

The best thing about 5 is that the tone is closer to 3 and we can put the bad bear jokes to rest.

You're not alone. I played P4 first and I liked it for the journey that it puts the player through. And then I played Persona 3 FES and good lord, the story, gameplay, and atmosphere of Persona 3 takes a huge dump on 4. Tartarus was far more interesting to travel through than the hallway simulators of the Midnight Channel. My biggest gripe with 4 is that its mystery is completely obvious because of a certain few cutscenes.

Luckily, the majority of people outside of Japan have never played a Persona game, so XV will still sell much better if they're released at the same time. Especially considering Atlus doesn't know what cross-region release is.

Why "luckily", I'd want both to sell well if they're good games, calm yourself.

Why does Final Fantasy get such a bad rep? One kinda bad game out of 15 great games isn't really a bad track record. If you think the company that invented JRPGs is scared of some company that still makes games for the Vita (lol) I don't know what to tell you.

Square still has a FF spinoff coming out in 2016. Meanwhile Atlus' Persona spinoff was 2015. You are ridiculous.

Throw me in with the Persona 5 crowd.

I've been waiting for 13 Versus/ 15 for sometime now and i'll be honest I've sort of lost interest. Since that time Playing persona on the Vita has been an absolute joy.

I'll get both, but i'm more excited for P5

I'd have to go with Persona overall.

XV looks great and all, but something about it just makes me feel like I should lower my expectations

Easy question.

The majority on this forum would prefer Persona 5. It's obvious.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XV would actually sell in the west.

Anyone who believes both FFIX is a bad game and Persona 4 is the best game of all time is objectively wrong, so there's that. Square Enix has yet to fully prove themselves, but without SquareSoft Atlus definitely wouldn't exist.

People are free to believe whatever they want, if someone thinks P4 is the best game of all time who are you to say he or she is wrong? Get off your high horse, Persona 4 last years was second only to Chrono Trigger in the rpg rankings,

People love Persona 4 and the Persona franchise, get over it.

XV day one. I already put 40 hours into the Demo.

Still need to play persona 1-4 so that I don't miss any important plot threads.

Every game is self-contained, with the exception of Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. In fact, you'll notice huge differences in gameplay as you progress through the games.

Persona games sell about 1 million WW, FF games do twice as much in Japan alone.

Although maybe Square is expecting huge growth for Persona, which wouldn't surprise me tbh.

Everyone is expecting huge growth for Persona. It won't sell near as much as FF but it will sell well.

Man, this whole thread. I'm sending in our negotiator.

Seriously though, I'd like to think that Square is being conscientious in knowing there's a lot of overlap between the two fanbases and is trying to space it out so people don't have to worry about picking one or the other. (In Japan.)

But I have no effing clue if that's true or not. I don't wanna fight w/ Square.

Also, FFVIII is best FF.

if only we could have a simultaneous release in the West. then if Square tries to avoid P5 you guys don't have to worry about it.

It's hard to say "sell," present tense, when you're talking about Persona, because there hasn't been a new release in the better part of a decade. I think we will indeed be seeing some pretty impressive growth.

I would prefer persona 5 no question, but please don't release t the same time. This'll like effect p5's sales and this series deserves the recognition.

I knew it, Atlus is scared of SE releasing FFXV the same time as P5!
/s

FFVIII gets way too much hate, the game was amazing besides some shortcomings near the end.

There's no such thing as "objectively wrong" when it comes to assessing games due to the fact that assessing said games are a matter of subjectivity. You may disagree with such a notion, but there could be a fantastic argument behind that.

Subjectivity is matter of bad judgement skills.

If I had to choose between the two I would pick Persona 5 any day. I know SE will keep pumping out Final Fantasy games but if P5 didn't do so well we have no idea if we would get another one.

2 and 8 I understand. But 3? OG or remake, 3 is pretty great.

3 is the second-worst game in the series. It's not awful (and of course, this is all opinion), but it's grindy, has the weakest iteration of the job system, and the story/characters are nothing to write home about.

I can see its appeal in a fantasy world where we got all of the FF games in order and on time, but going back to it, there's just nothing there worth playing. I feel the same way about FF2, for that matter.

I'll happily play any other FF game over again every few years, but not those two.

I have a feeling both games will be good. I would be shocked if P5 beats World of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest Builders and DQ11.

Persona 5 has an insane amount of momentum behind it in addition to the fact that hype for FFXV seems to be minimal. I know this won't happen, but can you imagine if Persona beat Final Fantasy both critically AND commercially?!?!

Yep, plus a simultaneous world wise release.

i don't think Square enix has to worry about that.....Rather Persona 5 than Mass Effect

Yep, I don't Square Enix has to worry that much on Persona 5 so much as Persona 5 should be worried about FF15 even though whynotboth.jpg and both are different. But both need to stay away from the juggernaut that will be Mass Effect (assuming it comes out this year)

If I could only get one... P5. Mainly because I'm hesitant to trust that XV won't become frame-rate hell during combat. I'm pretty excited for both, and they're different enough that it won't come down to an either/or scenario.

Did the FFXV demo deflate hype because it was unpolished, or because of the core game?
A bit of both, of varying proportions depending on who you ask.

I think SE wanted to show that XV is a thing that actually exists, but Episode Duscae was pretty rough all around. Combat, missions, graphics; all of it. It certainly showed potential though, and didn't deflate my hype, but a handful of people will play a demo 1.5 years out from release and be ready make the judgment call then.

Critically, I can see P5 doing better since it looks like it's iterating on the P3/P4 formula in interesting ways. FFXV will probably be fine, but I doubt it will have the polish of a game that already has a base foundation in terms of gameplay. It's the first FF mainline game that is using a fully action style, so already some FF fans have already tuned out.

I enjoy that FF mainline games try to be different from one another.

Square Enix stop worrying about when everyone else's game is coming out. Just don't release your game on the same day as some megahit like Fallout 4 and you'll be fine.

i mean that is exactly what they are trying to avoid with P5 in Japan.

The FFXV demo isn't even going to play like the final build and that's an odd assumption.

Yep, the demo lacked alot of features such as magic, actual summoning system, real time weapon switching, dodging initially, etc. Hell the demo is pretty much an alpha build.

Did the FFXV demo deflate hype because it was unpolished, or because of the core game?

Good question. I think for me personally, playing a slice of the game where the incentive to level is gone, as well as any story relevance, and the fact that the demo is unpolished and missing many features meant that the excitement to play it just wasn't there beyond "Oh I'm playing FF XV!"

No doubt these problems will be remedied in the main game. I do think the demo has done more damage than good. Once we start seeing the complete system and the game itself in a more complete state I think that will change.

Actually, not really sure. Aren't they supposed to be extremely different? It's kind of a weird question for SE to ask.
