Guys. Hey. I got a question. On the trailer there is leia's voice talking about the heritage of the force obviously to Rey... That part is cut from the movie? Or I just slept like 5 min in theater?


Edit: who is the old dude at the village? And the voice is from teaser 2 and is from Luke

About Kylo Ren

- For me, they revealed his identity far too early, it was like mentioned casually from Snoke that he's Solo's son. Odd way to do it.
- Again, he shouldn't have revealed his face to Rey during the interrogation scene.
- After his identity is revealed, fuck me it's all anyone can talk about. Every scene with Han and Leia must have mentioned it, look I know he's your son, but stop beating my head with it.
- I would have staved off his reveal until Han exclaims "Ben!", and the audience would be like who the fuck is that? Then keep the dialogue pretty much the same, with Kylo for the first time taking his mask off.
- I can understand Rey though since she's clearly a Jedi and the force has 'awakened' in her, thought her charge-up mode when she closed her eyes was a bit silly though.

I agree pretty much with everything on your list, but i especially agree 100% on this parts. Even the score :)

I interpreted it more as their finding an embrace in one another after shared mutual devastation in the loss of Han. For Leia, it was seemingly the loss of the one major love of her life, they split at some point of course, but there was still very much chemistry between them. For Rey, she saw Han as a father figure and potential mentor -- I think the father figure part is straight up said aloud by Ren during the interrogation. Also great use of the Love theme(?), or whatever the music cue there was called, appreciated it greatly.

Good. Really love him. Great actor and Kylo Ren was badass. Laughed my ass off when he was raging in that one room and the two stormtroopers going away xD

But yeah cant wait for Ep8 :)
 
Is Phasma straight up, 100% dead? That's disappointing. Super cool costume at least.

Any one else really enjoy Gleeson as Hux? Lot of nuance to his performance I thought.

Actually I laughed a lot in the movie to be honest. Nearly every joke worked somehow. This was probably the most funny star wars. And I mean that in a very positive way.

so, I just came back from the theaters. Very pleasantly surprised, I'd say all in all it was a really enjoyable experience. It's a fun and expertly paced romp through the galaxy, albeit the story is a bit weak and takes too many beats from the old trilogy for my liking

I mean, the not-Empire is looking for a soccer ball that is holding vital informarion on not-Tatooine at the start of the movie, again? And the movie ends with exploding yet another Death Star in much the same fashion as before? That's too on the nose even for you, JJ! Oh, and then there's the whole father thing again

also, has anyone noticed the rather noticeable amounts of happy coincidences? The way the main cast got together was really kinda far-fetched, but I suppose that's just the force at work. Absolutely no one was watching the Millinium Falcon, I guess the crime rate in that area is really low. Then they happen to be on a planet that is just in sight of the exploding star system. Then the janitor knows exactly how to destroy the not-Death Star, and they walk into just the right person to turn off the shields. The not-Death Star the size of whole freaking planet, yet everyone is in the same place at the same time. There's probably a lot more of those that I forgot

btw, they could have saved themselves a lot of headaches if they had just decided to hide the damn soccer ball that the whole galaxy is seemingly looking for instead of parading it around in front of everyone!


the Wonder Child was quite annoying sometimes with her "hey look at me I can do literally everything!" attitude. But they'll explain that soon enough, it's probably midi-chlorians cocaine

Fin was fine, a bit on the goofy side. The part where he wants to skip town then immediately decides otherwise didn't really need to be in the movie

Prince Zuko is a whiny little brat without his mask, but I guess that's to be expected. At least he used the crossguard once, new lightsaber redeemed. I have no doubt he's going full-on Prince Zuko in the sequels

Indiana Jones' demise was so heavily telegraphed that I saw it coming minutes before it actually happened. It didn't really get much of a reaction of the audience either (to be fair, there were barely any reactions expect for a few laughs during the funny scenes, which is standard etiquette for movie goers here) so I guess I wasn't the only one

Brienne of Tarth was sort of wasted on this movie, although I think she probably survived somehow. Also, I'm not quite sure why she agreed to take down the shields that eventually led to the destruction of not-Death Star but okay

I noticed the Space Nazis got a little more fascist in the interim between the trilogies. They are still fucking bad at holding any prisoners in captivity for any amount of time and they still like to build huge lasers with the same painfully obvious glaring weak spots. And those armor suits are useless

I quite liked Thanatos. Mainly because he's so huge. I hope that's his actual size and not just hologram trickery and inflated ego

Lea was forgettable

I wonder how the Joker will tie into all of this. I really hope he gets a more ambiguous role as was originally planned, instead of just becoming Obi Wan Yoda 2.0

the best scene was unquestionably when Prince Zuko noticed that the Wonder Child was missing and started trashing the place (yet again), and the Storm Troopers were like, "nah brah". Got the most laughs from the audience, too

And yeah, big fan of his anyway but I thought he was great. Loved the speech before Starkiller Base fired at Hosnian Prime.

I got spoiled on Hans death like 6 months ago but fuck it destroyed me, they did good. I had no idea that Kylo Ren was going to be called Ben though so that was a great moment for me. It kept bugging me that they were saying "my son" "our son" lol I wanted to know his name.

Snoke surprised the hell out of me during his reveal, I really thought he was like 20ft tall instead of just a hologram!
 
just got back, Is the movie the second coming of Christ? nah, is it the best movie ever and a giant fuck you to George as people expected? Nah. IS IT GOOD? Fuck Yes.


This movie was really brought down by the recycled ideas, people at my theater loudly pointed it out with "Seen it!!" specially the scene where they study Starkiller base. Finn was robbed...poor Boyega he deserved better. HOWEVER Finn is really endearing for what he is.

also people constantly complain that the prequels should've shown not tell...well I sure as fuck wish they'd shown a Lot of the backstory in this. Specially regarding Kylo and his betrayal. The flashback was completely wasted in this regard.

Action was great,and the movie genuinely shines whenever it attempted something new, soundtrack was lackluster, dialogue had some AotC moments but no memorable quotes. Han's death was great and the final showdown really adapted to show two force strong newbies fighting to death.

this movie gets a solid 7.8 from me and sits comfortably at the very center of my list.(please.note that I don't really hate any movie)

First act was far stronger than the others, beautiful shots of Rey's lonely existence on Jakku, Finn and Poe busting out the base etc.
- Awesome to see places and scenarios we've never seen before in Star Wars, like the snowy Starkiller base, enriched the final duels visually
- BB-8 is adorable fucking hell, they absolutely nailed it's design and interactions
- I like how Finn is both Han and Luke from ANH, has the wit but also the courage etc.
- Ford was great, the old Han Solo thing shouldn't really have worked, but it actually did
- Carrie Fisher on the other hand was disappointing, very flat. She might as well have not been in the film as well.
- People slander Boba Fett but fuck me that Captain Phasma what a punk, she didn't do a fucking thing.
- I think the design team have done a marvelous job on the tricky task of bring Star Wars up to date, but still retaining the old elements. Only exception would be Kylo Ren's mask which sucks, should have just went straight for the Revan copy.
- I feel the pirate having Luke's lightsaber and then Rey running away was all a bit clunky
- So lightsabers give you visions now?
- I know pretty much exactly as much about Supreme Leader Snoke as I did before I saw the film, except what he looks like. That's disappointing.
- Was hoping he would look a bit more alieny, instead looks one of those Separatist leaders from Episode II. Wasn't he supposed to be a snake or something?
- Bit of a waste getting the guys from The Raid and not having them fight
- Also disappointed at how we didn't see anything (bar those couple shots) of the Knights of the Ren
- Death Star 3.0 is LAME
- X-wing dogfighting, so good

- So how did he fall to the dark side? That wasn't properly explained I don't think, he just killed everyone in the old academy after being influenced by Snoke. But when did this start? How did it happen?
- Getting serious prequel Anakin vibes from him, but with better acting
- Hilarious how he just starting mashing the console with his lightsaber, throwing a right hissyfit.
- The guy is clearly mega powerful with the force, I mean holding blaster shots mid-flight and whatnot
- Ending duels were fantastic and really 'heavy', the blows felt like they had massive impact to them.
- Finn did way better than he had any right to do, I know Kylo was wounded and mentally drained but Finn shouldn't have been able to land a single strike on him imo.

Also FUCK that helicopter shot when she meets Luke.

I would wager that they didn't do the late movie reveal for Kylo Ren as Ben Solo as you said to do it in order to not come off like they are repeating the Vader twist in ESB. It's one thing to lean on the OT, it's another to do something very similar to one of the most famous twists in cinema history.

He was trying to punch the pain away from Chewies shot to the side. I thought it was a really nice bit of detail, him getting annoyed and trying to fight through it. The two Storm troopers who almost walked in on him going HAM in the cell was amazing lol

Gleeson nailed his role. I was surprised to see him get far more screentime than Tarkin ever did, but he pulled off the sneering general type with aplomb.

Yeah I get where you're coming from, but I don't think the reveal had as much of an impact as it should have.
 
Just saw it. I am so happy right now. Poe Dameron may well be the coolest guy ever. Can't wait to see the adventures of Finn and Poe in the next movie. Also, Luke at the end looked like a god damn bad-ass. So tired, but a bad-ass nonetheless. So happy.

I'm glad they just went straight into to be honest they already have the secret back story going with Rey so it would be a bit much to have it going with him as well. Plus the scene where Han and him actually come face to face is just fantastic partly because they build up to it.
 
Well the villains were extremely underused given the talent of the actors.

Hopefully more of them in the sequels.

One thing I hated is how they were forcing Poe as Han number 2, not too much not to feel redundant, but with Han gone I can already imagine the "witty" lines in the sequels. Urgh. It worked a little but they tried too hard.

I'd watch the shit out of an Adventures of Finn and Poe standalone movie. Holy shit, talk about charismatic and likable dudes. Brilliant acting/writing/character direction.
 
hypothetical question - how well would you have to time the moment you switch off the hyperspace drive when you're in a spaceship that travels at lightspeed or faster so you break through the shield that encompasses the planet but don't actually crash into said planet? My guess is that by the time you shout "Cheewie, now!" (or whatever it was) and the co-pilot can react, you are long, long dead

also, another hypothetical question, wouldn't a ship that crashes into a planet at the speed of light or faster make one hell of a kinetic bomb?
 
I thought it was a boring movie that relied too heavily on nostalgia. If you're indifferent to Han Solo, Leia, and Luke then this movie ain't going to do much for you IMHO.

And I didn't think either actors sold the anguish that I felt should be present in the scene between Kylo Ren and Han Solo. After that whole thing I was pretty much just "okay".

It was Maz Kanata's voice in the final trailer and yeah, I think that dialogue was cut.

Max Von Sydow's character was called Lor San Tekka. It never really explained who he is so your guess is as good as mine.

You'd need about the same reaction time when pulling out of a star's gravity while at warp to slingshot back int time.
