Here is another small nerdy nitpicky thing that seemed weird to me. Why does Kylo dodged the saber he was trying to force pull? He acts like he wasnt expecting it to come straight at him.

I think it would have been better that he tried to grab at it, but it slips or bounces a bit off his hands. But he full on dodges it with his whole upper body...

Surprise mixed with the force it flew past him? I don't think he was expecting it to fly straight at his head.

People in my theater took it as "middle finger fire" and all laughed. 1400 persons.

They also couldn't stopped laughing when they saw Kylo's face.

I assumed he could tell he didn't have control of it.

Would have been better if after his weird struggle to force pull the saber that 'belongs to me' from the snow, it flies into Luke's hand. And Luke saves Finn and Rey.

You'd just have to have Leia notice R2 reactivating beforehand while supervising the assault.

Luke's current re-introduction is just kind of a super-weird note to close to credits on. It actually does feel like an after-credits 'Look what's coming next, OH SHIT' Marvel stinger.

You guys also think Rey will get a double bladed lightsaber (staffsaber) in the next movie? It would make sense since she already carried that staff around and used it as a weapon against those grunts trying to steal BB-8 on Jakku

Film was generally what the fuck level of shite.

I don't know if this was chopped to hell and back by committee, but man:

- what was the batman and robin quality crap with the kanji group
- kylo ren is a powerful force user (keeping a blaster shot suspended and reading minds), with lessons by snoke but gets thrashed by Rey...the duel was awful (zero tension/pacing and came across like two children swinging sticks); again not sure if this was butchered in editing or highlighting Abram's limitations as a filmmaker
- Han solo death was executed awfully
- zero world building/universe/myth expansion and what there was, was throwaway (a mere line drop that Luke sought out an original Jedi temple, but nah screw that)
- Finn gets bested by a stormtrooper but can damage kylo ren...yeah no (even Chewie's wound ain't enough here)
- Poe Dameron has zero character except he's good pilot because we're told so...wasted really
- Soundtrack...I wonder what wrong here
- Han solo going from a general to being a penniless smuggler again
- Luke's bold attitude in Empire/Jedi, to running into hiding leaving the darkside to grow in Kylo
- Don't know if this is rushed or what happens when you take out an ideas man, and hand it to a committee

Good stuff
- Leia
- Chewie
- Luke looking like a mean Oliver Reed

Film had a similar feel to the recent Marvel films; empty, forgettable and safely sterile despite the use of some practical effects (some of which felt Hook level of bad).

I can't remember the particular line, but I believe Han mentions the Knights of Ren when hes on the bridge. Just felt like they weren't a thing anymore. Maybe Ren killed them all.

It was mildly amusing. That's about it.

People must be really easily pleased if they found that hilarious.

Nah I have a fairly elite taste in comedy -Airplane, Life of Brian, Trigger Happy TV, South Park, The Onion.

:)

kylo ren is a powerful force user (keeping a blaster shot suspended and reading minds), with lessons by snoke but gets thrashed by Rey

She is Luke's daughter, the scene was indicative that Rey's force capability will be the most powerful jn the Star Wars universe. Her winning the battle was not only thematically appropriate, it was incredibly satisfying to watch.

Yup this would make sense in ep 8!

LOL Leia? She was the weakest part of the film, if anything.

I can picture US audiences laughing uproariously at every mild joke and applauding at the end. Did that happen too? Please tell me it did.

Wouldn't know. I'm a brit.

Happened here in The Netherlands too. Actually the first movie I attended after which the audience started applauding in the end :)

Biggest laugh came from the BB-8 moment

That thumbs up is probably the most British joke you can get.

It's funny because it's stupid.

Again, see Trigger Happy TV, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, etc. All comedies with an incredibly stupid sense of humour.

I have no fucking idea why they would. The movie was ridiculously poor in its execution and is coasting off nostalgia and hype.

The fuss around it is so in your face that the entire thing is getting right on my tits.

Why be this angry about a film? Just let it go

Ah well, so that's 5 out of 7 movies that suck. The next one will surely be good right? /s

4/10

I agree with most of the complaints here.

If they really wanted to rethread Ep 4, then it should have been fully self contained, the last scene was DREADFUL.
We all know its Luke, but we get climbing shots with Dingle in the background and when she gets there we have 'the reveal'.
And literally the most out of place helicopter shot I have seen. They looked ridiculous just standing there.

He should have appeared out of nowhere holding Vaders red lightsaber Cut to titles.
That would have driven the crowds wild.

Or at the very least Luke could have said something to tee up Ep 8, but no! is he shocked? is he looking mysterious? is he just wondering why she is just standing still for a few minutes holding his old lightsaber??
The movie ends a dud note, not a dull tone. Big big difference.

I think it was a huge missed opportunity not to make Luke the Max Von Sydow character at the start or similar. Poe doesnt know him, he is in hiding but he is watching, laying breadcrumbs for the next generation. obliviously have the introduction of Ren later.
We rethread the beats of Ep4, but the wrapper is different, could have lots of room to play against expectation.

the usual:
Ren a very poor bad guy.

I was expecting the usual lack of epicness from JJ movies, and there it was. They show a fucking comparison of the scale of the planet compared to the Death star... and we don't get to 'experience' it.

Phasma was totally underused, just marching slowly...

But many things took me out of the movie:
Rey saves bb8 for no reason, and then sets it free for no reason... wha?

Han Solo really doesnt care for his son, sees him carrying his maybe daughter onto a shuttle, 'stunned' into doing nothing

We see ships enter atmospheres, but we never see them land. Just a static set.

On the other hand:
BB8's thumbs up got the biggest laugh and reaction from the fully packed theatre, that was cool.
Han Solo guiding Finn to cool it was the second biggest reaction.

Why be this angry about a film? Just let it go

Because it's mediocre and people can't see it due to the haze of nostalgia that clouds their vision. Being around that shit is unreal. It's like some collective mind altering drug that 99% of people are taking.

I'm inclined to scream at people to fuck off if they even casually mention Star Wars to me at this point.

Maybe people just enjoy it for what it is? It's just a movie, relax.

That scene is weird anyway, stormtrooper is mad he is a traitor and is very skilled, maybe the newest batch of clones have high Midichlorians or something (which explains Finn).

I agree with everything you say yet I still enjoyed watching it for some of those "fuck yeah that was Star Wars cool" moments and it's sad that this is all that makes the movie worthwhile.

People clapped at the end and I felt like WTF, I mean I wasn't even sad when Han died it was so badly done and there's all these new characters and I really give no shits about them but maybe they'll grow on me like the original trilogy did after watching the whole trilogy.

Is it just me though or is this the first of all the Star Wars "trilogy" set movies that doesn't actually conclude its particular story properly by the end? I mean the "you must see he sequel to continue the story" ending was ridiculously blatant. At least all of the others stand alone as individual movies and hold the particular part of their story on an individual basis. Imagine if there were no more movies made and it ended like that? That's freaking atrocious.

That scene is weird anyway, stormtrooper is mad he is a traitor and is very skilled, maybe the newest batch of clones have high Midichlorians or something.

Err, the storm troopers haven't been clones since the original trilogy.

Solo's death lacked impact for me too. I think it was pretty much telegraphed from the get go, with Rey taking control on Millennium Falcon and Han offering her a job. Kylo being such an underdeveloped villain was the main problem, though. There was no history there to connect to.

The staging of the scene on a huge abyss and bridge made it super obvious what was going to happen too. Plus i don't think the effects work was strong here with the obvious bluscreen backdrop. It just created a disconnect for me, i guess.

People are shitting on the movie here? Gee

I enjoyed the movie. It's maybe my favorite star wars.

The only thing i didn't like, well, actually hated was mark hammil doing a poor obi wan cosplay with this awkward look on his face.

Finally. A like-minded soul.

Embrace me, brother. *goes for hug*

And the sudden but inevitable betrayal stab

2035 Special Edition edit. Or maybe Blu-ray edit if they're feeling brave.

And your solution to this rage is to continue posting in a discussion thread about the movie?

Dude I didn't even particularly like Star Wars, I've maybe seen episode IV and V twice, episode VI once. Have only watched I & II through Red Letter media. I have absolutely zero knowledge of the extended lore.

The real strengths of this film laid in the relationships of its characters, the chemistry between all of the cast was really really good. I found that really enjoyable, not the nostalgia.

-----

Solo's death was obvious since the moment he said goodbye to Leia, it didn't mean that it wasn't handled well. It was. The film does a great job reminding us why we love the character, which leaves a strong impact when he goes.

Relax ffs

People enjoying a film that you don't, big whoop.

Do you scream at kids at Christmas for daring to be excited and believing in Santa?
