You're saying Han Solo doesn't know how to install a tracker on his own ship that he's owned for almost half a century?

This is seriously reaching now

So you're saying Han had installed a tracker on the falcon that only he can read and after decades(?), he was never able to find it until Rey and Finn took it for a ride? Then he got there conveniently within minutes (or what seemed like it) from when they took off? Was Han in the same system for some reason? If not, how did he get there so fast? Which brings up another issue in this movie. They don't establish that any time passes while in hyperspace.

Bruh
He lost to a stormtrooper
He kept getting denied the hand
He got bopped by Kylo
He ends the movie taking a nap

Dude has to hold ALL THE Ls

Bruh, he trolled Ren and the First Order three times. First with his escape, then by getting wth Rey and BB8, and then by giving all his info on the Starkiller to the resistance which led to it being destroyed.

He also got the hand willingly and landed a hit on Kylo Ren - which really should have been the extent of damage he or Rey should have been capable of dealing ala Luke v Vader I.

He ended the movie on his back but in good company. He gonna bro it out with Poe and learn how to fly.

The 3D was well done, didn't get obnoxious or in the way. (Okay, one shot of a star destroyer pointing right into the screen was a little awkward.)

At the beginning, who did Kylo Ren kill? It's almost like he was supposed to be recognizable, but maybe not. Been trying to wrack my brain about who it was, if it was someone established. Then there's the comments about repenting, and Kylo's barbs about him getting old... This is completely crackpot, but by chance, was that Boba Fett?

Edit: I feel like some people are expecting too much out of a Stormtrooper who freaked out and decided to go AWOL on his first serious mission.

One specific thing I want to point out is the opening crawl.

It was perfect.

We haven't had one written in this tone since the originals (the prequel ones seemed like they were written at a higher reading level and with poorer prose), it seemed straight out of an old-time movie serial, which it's exactly what it should be,

It's a film about people with magic powers in outer space.

I love how JJ was able to do a flashback sequence without breaking the traditional Star Wars narrative structure.

Speaking of which....

.....Rey lost her parents at a very early age as seen in the flashback, so if she is Han and Leia's daughter, she doesn't look like she did when they lost her.

Nope nope nope nope that would be super dumb. She didn't lose her parents as so much as she was left there is how I interpreted the flashback.

Wasn't their daughter working with Leia? Sure she was in the base with her

that was Carrie Fishers daughter lol

Principal problems:

The very first thing they do is humanize a storm trooper and then spend the next 2 hours killing storm troopers.

Also the interrogation scene with Rey and Kylo instantly made Kylo look like a bitch, then it turned out no really he's just a petulant bitch oh well might as well blow up this really big death star.

definitely not boba

Are Jedi allowed to have kids? If she is Luke's daughter then what foul deeds did Luke get up to?

The old Jedi order were not allowed to have romantic connections, but they dead, so who knows what Luke could have decided to do. Kenobi's also a big question mark, because we don't know much about what he was up to in the ~18 years between RotS and ANH. She could be his granddaughter for all we know.

Never had an issue with that in numerous WW2 films. Just because one Nazi sees right and turns sides doesn't mean the rest aren't still murderous pieces of shit.

I'm still thinking Finn ends up force sensitive. The way Ren looked at him, the ambiguos nature of his birth. It was obvious Rey was from day one, I mean look at the damn poster, and promotional materials. She's the next biggest thing aside from Ren. Holding out hope for Finn, imo he stole the show.

Honestly, after seeing the movie, it feels like he will be. That seems to be the setup I'm feeling from that ending.

Rey is a Jedi padawan, great engineer, and copilot of the Falcon by the end. Poe is legit doing the best flying in the galaxy with no Force.

Finn is great, but he needs a thing and that's why people feel you could remove him or he's a one film character.

Just finished. It was incredible. Music was amazing. All my theories were wrong and Jay's why I loved it. Can't wait for 8.

Rey's theme, the Resistance theme, and pretty much all the incidental music was a joy to listen to in the movie.

Only part I felt wasn't up to par was the bad guy theme, it felt simplistic.

Carrie Fisher's real daughter was working with the Resistance. If she was actually Leia and Han's daughter, then that'd be a very odd choice to giver her such a minor role with no name. :lol

I didn't get that vibe whatsoever.

She has a vision of Luke and his Jedi Order being wiped out, and then being left on Jakku (dat poetry of a Skywalker being hidden on a desert planet for their safety), after touching Luke's lightsaber. She also has an extremely powerful latent Force potential, where even without any kind of formal training she's pulling lightsabers through the air and mind tricking stormtroopers.

She's totally Luke's daughter.

Also curious about this.

Does it need to move? It's laser shit is FTL.

Yeah but as far as I can tell, you only get to use the Starkiller once. What happens the next time the First Order want to destroy a few planets? Move to another star?

And what about the science of depleting a star? I half expected everything to fall into complete darkness, yet for some reason it never happened. Wouldn't it also cause the planets to, say, fall out of orbit? Was the Starkiller in orbit, too? WHY THE FUCK DOES A PLANET THAT IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SUCK THE ENERGY OUT OF A STAR HAVE SNOW?

I didn't need it to be fully explained… just enough for me to know there's some longevity to the threat it represents…?

Ugh why did they have Phasma do nothing? She looks kickass and does nothing! Finn and Rey really felt good together tho. Loved the chemistry. Also love how Poe and Finn quickly became bros.

Oh he's awesome as hell and I hope he wrecks shit in Ep 8 & 9

But he's bitchmade

Rey don't got time for that shit, she's got places to be

I can't agree.
He is being given a sympathetic underdog hero role, and he will be full on boss tier before it is all said and done.
He was so good in this.
He and Daisy were both amazing finds.

Aside from the plot gripes people mentioned, I'm left thirsting for more info on the Knights of Ren. I need to know who that group was in the thunderstorm flash sequence.

A planet will stop being in orbit once the star around it disappears, but it's not like people in the planet will notice it went out of orbit. The planet will continue at it's present velocity, it simply will not be doing a revolution around a set point in space.

Really good movie. I was suprised when they killed off Han. I thought he was going to let him walk away when he started talking about feeling conflicted. Good scene.

Kind of sad at the wasted potential of Max Von's character and Phasma, also with yet another rebellion meeting with how to take out yet another planet killer (after watching IV and VI during the marathon, it was too much retread).

Everything else was great.

Totally different than the spoilers I read months ago that said Luke would kill Han while he tried protecting his son (Kylo) from Lukes strike.

I think it would be too easy and predictable for Rey to be Han's daughter, and too unlikely to be Luke's daughter, since Jedi aren't meant to have relationships/children. It's just as unlikely she's a child of someone from Rebels. Wonder who she (and Max) could be?

She's totally Luke's daughter.

Doesn't seem to tie in with her waiting on Jakku for me.

She also gave zero fucks when Luke came up.

Never had an issue with that in numerous WW2 films. Just because one Nazi sees right and turns sides doesn't mean the rest aren't still murderous pieces of shit.

I understand they had to give the guy a backstory and all and sure it doesn't excuse all the other guys, but I feel like the psychological impact of understanding that he and many other storm troopers are just guys that got shit deals and forced into a shitty situation and maybe aren't shitty people would be ringing all too clear in his head and he might hesitate before blasting them.

Somebody had to be the Boba Fett. Great look, but really doesn't do a damn thing except stand there. Maybe fire a gun once. Disappointing because Phasma really does stand out among the First Order. Maybe she'll get more in the next film.

Was it ever explained why R2D2 wakes up when he does?

Felt like it was completely separate to all the rest of the plot. Maybe I missed something?

I liked this. Feels less like a cartoon when the bad guys are shown to be at least a little human.
I also liked that the film didn't shy away from showing the heroes killing stormtroopers

Han doesn't, though.

Look, I'm defending the film on some things, but some things were just poorly thought out.

That wasn't my point.

This is a film where people can mindread, throw things around using telekinesis, fly through space faster than light, fight each other with crazy laser beams and have flawless communication with wookies and droids, where planets can be quickly (within twenty years) turned into giant big ass space weapons with the power to suck in a fucking STAR and then puke it out across the galaxy destroying planets as if it was no big deal

And you're saying Han Solo can't track the millennium falcon? Or others saying that people can't bump into each other by coincidence? It's a fucking high fantasy film. But its star wars, people are still gonna nitpick it until theres nothing left to moan about.

She doesn't even get to shoot tho. I hope she survived otherwise what a waste. I guess they will explain how she got off the planet in some spin-off book.

Do we really think rey is Luke's kid? Like it makes sense but I don't like the idea of him seemingly selling her into slavery

Maul, Dooku, and Greivous were all wasted characters who had virtually no story or motivation.

Going into VIII they will have Hux, Phasma, and Kylo all with very obvious bones to pick with the main characters.

Especially Phasma, please just don't screw up Phasma....
