I just want to add some further thoughts on Rey's character and why I felt disappointing.
As I said before, she just doesn't work as a character because she has no arc, zero. We know next to nothing about her but by the end we just have to accept that she is important. Now, there was a part in the movie I got all hopeful, that I thought, "oh now this could be an interesting turn." It's when they are on that dumb forest planet and Rey has those visions before finally rejecting Luke's lightsaber and running away. Now, at that point I thought her character was going to be setup as an interesting twist on Luke's/the Hero's Journey; that instead of eagerly accepting the Call to Adventure she would reject it.
I thought that could be a cool arc, a character who denies their calling and the path obviously set out for them until it is basically thrust upon them. At which point we could have her dealing with a destiny she had no choice in being a part of. But, we don't really get this and she is just kind of there doing things without any clear motivation.
