He was basically trying to use his force mind reading powers on her and she reflected it back and read his mind. Think Yoda and Dooku's force lightning exchange in AOTC. But instead of lightning, a series of wincing facial expressions. At least that was my take on it.

That can't be all of it though, right? HE had his mask on when the scene began. He had to have said something else. I know I tried to pee quckly be they couldn't have been making faces for all that time.

My only issue with this movie, and I mean sincerely as I absolutely loved it, was the ending sequence had a bit too many cuts to it. It felt a bit rushed with missing dialogue.

But you don't want to get into the Lord of the Ring territory on both film length and too long of an ending sequence.

Main question I have - Did Han and Leia know she was Luke's daughter?

You could see a tinge of guilt in Han Solo's face when she said "I never knew this much green existed in the universe."

And Leia's embrace with barely knowing about her.

I would say yes they knew. Because of everything you noted as well as Han trying to enlist her as his co-pilot.

I really loved that scene when Poe takes out like 6-8 tie fighters in a row with the camera following him from Finn's point of view.

If he's trained in combat why was he acting like he didn't know how to use weapons when he was escaping with Poe at the beginning of the movie?

Because he's a stormtrooper and they're shit at everything

And even if he was trained in combat how was he immediatley competent enough to use a lightsaber (albeit not perfectly) when he's just a storm trooper?

Because he's so shit he's even bad at being a stormtrooper :p

My man. Rocky Balboa would've been able to talk that little bitch Kylo down

My only disappointment is how the two actors from The Raid were underused, other than that it was a great ride.

I think the Raid actors were in elsewhere in the film in costume, too, and that was just a cameo for them to be shown out of costume. At a guess anyway, the Stormtrooper Finn has a fight with might have been one of them.

Only callbacks that felt forced to me was the board game on the Millennium Falcon popping up randomly and when Finn found the ball thing that Luke was using to train with Obi-Wan. Oh and when Han said "I've got a bad feeling about this". Didn't feel natural at all.

It went a lot more smoothly than Terminator GenYsISs. I can't complain honestly.

Wat

Did she ever show any interest? I thought Finn was put straight into The Friendzone from the start, Rey don't got time for his nonsense

She definitely puts him in the friendzone, while he comes off as a bit of a creep as the film progresses.

Just got back...I'm not sure I liked it. I mean, it wasn't bad, but something about it felt...not Star Wars.

It's fan fiction thats why. It pieces of Abrams' and Kasdan's favorite parts from the OT glued together.

He didn't know how to use a ship's turrets, he's not a pilot. He's only trained in the weapons a stormtooper uses, which would include the electric rod weapon a stormtrooper attacks him with later.

I enjoyed it. A- from me

Definitely better than the prequels.

Here are some pros and cons.

Impact sabers good.
Practical effects good. CG characters were the weakest (Supreme and squid things)
Good pacing, good characters.
Good amount of mystery left for sequels.
Dark side was threatening and they did some new things.
A little too homagey with death star sequence.. for a third time.
Minimal goofy humor, except for mind trick scene. It's no longer mind trick, but full on mind control. Didn't care for it.
Death scene didn't have enough gravitas, largely because we know so little of the history.
Rey and ren fight needed a bit more. There was no insight, she just overpowered him.

That can't be all of it though, right? HE had his mask on when the scene began. He had to have said something else. I know I tried to pee quckly be they couldn't have been making faces for all that time.

She said something to the effect of, "why are you hiding behind the mask". He took immediately took it off, they talked some more. The important thing that happened was their force powers duel. He then went running off to tell Snoke she was too powerful to get the info they needed.

We're done. I'm clearly talking to someone who knows nothing about Star Wars nor about the nature of the Stormtrooper army. You don't know BASICS, man.

That would be you.

BIGGS
I made some friends at the Academy.
(he whispers)
...when our frigate goes to one of
the central systems, we're going to
jump ship and join the Alliance...

Luke, amazed and stunned, is almost speechless.

LUKE
Join the Rebellion?! Are you kidding!
How?

BIGGS
Quiet down will ya! You got a mouth
bigger than a meteor crater!

LUKE
I'm sorry. I'm quiet.
(he whispers)
Listen how quiet I am. You can barely
hear me...

Biggs shakes his head angrily and then continues.

BIGGS
My friend has a friend on Bestine
who might help us make contact.

LUKE
You're crazy! You could wander around
forever trying to find them.

BIGGS
I know it's a long shot, but if I
don't find them I'll do what I can
on my own... It's what we always
talked about. Luke, I'm not going to
wait for the Empire to draft me into
service. The Rebellion is spreading
and I want to be on the right side --
the side I believe in.

LUKE
And I'm stuck here...

BIGGS
I thought you were going to the
Academy next term. You'll get your
chance to get off this rock.

LUKE
Not likely! I had to cancel my
application. There has been a lot of
unrest among the Sandpeople since
you left... they've even raided the
outskirts of Anchorhead.

BIGGS
Your uncle could hold off a whole
colony of Sandpeople with one blaster.

LUKE
I know, but he's got enough vaporators
going to make the place pay off. He
needs me for just one more season. I
can't leave him now.

BIGGS
I feel for you, Luke, you're going
to have to learn what seems to be
important or what really is important.
What good is all your uncle's work
if it's taken over by the Empire?...

You know they're starting to
nationalize commerce in the central
systems... it won't be long before
your uncle is merely a tenant, slaving
for the greater glory of the Empire.

LUKE
It couldn't happen here. You said it
yourself. The Empire won't bother
with this rock.

BIGGS
Things always change.

LUKE
I wish I was going... Are you going
to be around long?

BIGGS
No, I'm leaving in the morning...

LUKE
Then I guess I won't see you.

BIGGS
Maybe someday... I'll keep a lookout.

LUKE
Well, I'll be at the Academy next
season... after that who knows. I
won't be drafted into the Imperial
Starfleet that's for sure... Take
care of yourself, you'll always be
the best friend I've got.

BIGGS
So long, Luke.

I really loved that scene when Poe takes out like 6-8 tie fighters in a row with the camera following him from Finn's point of view.

Wait I FORGOT that scene. I was grinning from ear to ear watching that. Poe carrying that legacy of the Rogue Squadron.

How did everyone feel about the Ocean's 11 bit where everyone seems to know what BB-8 is saying except one character. Han understanding Chewie is one thing, but Rey understanding BB-8? Weird.

Rey Poe Kylo BB8 Finn. Loved them all. The first star wars movie worth of the name since the 1980s. I'm happy

the supreme leader sucked though

She definitely puts him in the friendzone, while he comes off as a bit of a creep as the film progresses.

Finn kinds of comes off to me as someone who wants to be the hero, but just doesn't have the tools. So he's awkward a bit.

Really not seeing it.

People are really having their lunch in the OT. Basically it's the standard high of coming back from an anticipated franchise movie, amplified several magnitudes because it's Star Wars.

No doubt Ben had some confidence issues

The speech from Rocky Balboa would fix that emo little shit right up

I loved it and have no interest in reading people pick it apart.

If I had to choose between Mad Max and this I might choose Mad Max but this was still awesome. My second favorite Star Wars I think.

Rey was the standout for me, but Finn was ridiculously good also. Kylo was excellent but like him better with the mask on.

I like how obvious the turmoil is inside Kylo.

And I am glad Han is gone I think. He was the weakest part for me.

If he's trained in combat why was he acting like he didn't know how to use weapons when he was escaping with Poe at the beginning of the movie? And even if he was trained in combat how was he immediatley competent enough to use a lightsaber (albeit not perfectly) when he's just a storm trooper?

He wasn't a pilot, he was just normal Stormtrooper. We now another Stormtrooper being very capable with some kind of stun rod so I don't think it's a stretch to assume that all Stormtroopers have some type of hand to hand combat in case they can't use their Blasters.

Also, like others have pointed out, Kylo was extremely injured during that fight. Chewie hit him dead on with this crowbow thing and we had previously seen that that thing could throw Stormtroopers across the room.

I'd also say he wasn't very competent with it, all he was able to do was block Kylo's attacks. He got his ass kicked so badly that he was in a coma by the end of it.

I really loved that scene when Poe takes out like 6-8 tie fighters in a row with the camera following him from Finn's point of view.
Yeah it's fucking incredible, from start to finish my jaw was on the floor

I LOVED the way the final battle started with the sun out on Starkiller base and then slowly got darker and darker as the battle raged on and the sun was sucked up. So awesome.

Poe talking about the Starkiller sucking up the star. He's says something like, "as long as there's still light we've got a chance."
That is absolutely not PT level dialogue. If the sun gets sucked up and there's no more light, then the weapon could fire and they wouldn't have a chance. It isn't even a shitty metaphor, it's just their situation at the time.

Edit: I guess it could be seen as overt symbolism, but it's not nearly as bad as "I don't like sand..." or pretty much anything else from the PT.

Whether or not Rey is going to be Luke's actual physical child, I think we are going to see him take her under regardless as his own after losing Han. I'm still thinking that she isn't though, JJ just loves his red herrings and he was so heavy handed about it too. Can't wait to see where her journey will take her next.

I still can't believe his real name is Ben. fucking lol

Probably named him after Obi-Wan.

-----

Overall I fucking loved the movie. I think they did a really good job of bridging between the OT and creating a new trilogy. The prequels were plagued with too many things changing, but this movie changed just enough to allow for more story, without shitting all over what Star Wars fans know and love.

Also the battles, holy shit the battles. Blasters felt so much more amazing, and the lightsaber duels were spectacular!

I'm not always a spoiler person, but the death scene in this films seems like it was tacked on for money. I didn't want a person to die. That's what made Phantom Menace such a pain to watch.

I think it was a glamour shot at making another Star Wars film and the only thing they're doing with this film is making action figures out of the characters.

Kylo Ren would have been better off in KOTOR than in this film. He's like psuedo-Darth Vader with no other style except a sword-saber. Star Wars fans who role play or LARP probably have better fan fiction than what I think is going to be this film. I still plan to see it, but I don't know when.

I loved the original films and I geeked out over the last three, but this is just throw back to money if you ask me.

I wonder how they'll explain Rey's accent if she ends up being Luke's daughter. Also looking forward to more Leia in future films.

The accents dont actually exist, since English isnt a language in far off space. Were getting their closest approximations in our own languages, kind of like how an A-Wing or Y-Wing are named for their shape, but neither letter exists in the Galactic alphabet.

Just really satisfied all around.

Still rolling Han's death around in my head. We now have a canonical death of a major character and it's heavy.

Kylo was pulled off spectacularly well. Even though Han's death was a foregone conclusion, there was still a glimmer of hope Kylo would turn to the light side. Adam Driver nailed it and I'm excited to see where his character goes.

A few things felt forced (lol). The "Cantina-ish" scene was cool as I always loved the variety of alien life in Star Wars but still felt a little too call-backy.

Loved most of the new characters though Phasma seemed stupid.

Overall, I felt like I was given a ticket back into a world I loved that was familiar but new and that's exactly what I wanted.

The unanswered questions are great too. I look forward to having them resolved.

I suspect Rey is the last surviving member of Luke's Jedi Academy. He protected her, fogged up her mind to make her seem ordinary and undetectable to Force users and hid her away while Snoke, the Knights and Kylo wrapped up their rampage against the fledgling Jedi academy.

I'd prefer this over her being a Skywalker, Kenobi, Solo, etc. They all obviously know she's someone of importance. She's THE girl from back in the day. It's even possible she was a prodigy, the best of them and hence Kylo's weird insecurities. This would also explain her advanced Force knowledge. She's remembering what she was made to forget for her own safety.
