They should have set that up earlier, like show him sparring with another trooper or at least have him armed with one of those stun blade things so we know he can handle himself.

I don't feel it really matters. We see early on that Rey is great with her staff, but later when Han Solo gives her a hand blaster, she figures it out and has pretty good accuracy too. In the same way, Finn is more comfortable with a blaster because that's the weapon he's mostly trained in, but he can handle a melee weapon if needed. The point is that these are young people but they're ones who have experienced a harsher upbringing and know how basic weapons work.

I loved the movie, but my biggest disappointment is Finn seemingly not being Jedi material. I guess Rey was supposed to be a surprise? But from the beginning, they both seemed like they could use the force. I loved the idea of having 2, so if it really is just her....I don't like that. I also don't like the continuing idea of how damn important bloodline is. Everyone should have the ability to use the force at this point. Why is it only Skywalkers/Kenobis/whatever are tuned to it?

Agreed about Finn and also about the bloodline thing, but Snoke is a master of the Dark Side, presumably, and not related to any previous character. And if you watched closely, Maz has some degree of Force sensitivity.

Looks like Half in the Bag might be up sooner than I expected:

I wonder if they will do a Plinkett video for it or if Plinkett videos are reserved for bad Star Wars movies?

For bad movies, yeah. If they won't do a Plinkett review of the special editions, I don't expect that they would do one for a legitimately good film.

If Rey was a student of Luke's wouldn't Kylo have recognized her?

People are theorizing that Rey had her mind clouded by Luke, what if Snoke did the same for Kylo?

Just got back. Wow. I rank it up there with the OT for sure. It really felt like putting on a familiar pair of shoes.

Impressions.

Kylo was by far my fav character. Really want to see more of him. Loved the tantrums.

Are we all agreeing that Finn is not a Force user at this point? Or is there something there. I can't tell if Kylo sensed the Force in him at the camp or if he just felt Finn's fear. I'm curious as to where they take him next episode. Could go a couple different ways.

Rey picking up the sabre. Hell yeah. Not sure I like rookie beat downs, but it worked enough for the sabre fight. She feels a lot stronger in the force (and Kylo, too) than anyone in the OT lol. She is basically training herself.

Han was great. Chewie was great.

I felt like JJ played it safe with Leia. She was there and serviceable, but lines and delivery no where as good as OT. Maybe related more to Carrie's acting ability.

Hey! It's the Raid guys! And they all got eaten. Didn't even get one kung fu kick to the beast.

On that note, some of the world building felt a tad rushed related to what the characters had been doing for 40 years.

Ok, ok. Death Star 3 is dead. Can we stop with these weapons, now? 3 strikes yer out. This one was just a huge Mcguffin.

Phasma. Wat. lol. Bit part a la Boba Fett, but no where near as mysterious or cool. Hope they flesh her out more next ep. Hey look! Chrome Trooper on my cereal box!

Snoke. I was like...he's huge, then hologram. I was relieved. Still reserved on his character. Would like to see more.

DAT ENDING SHOT.

Snoke is Darth Plagueis, I bet
That's what I thought as well when I saw him. I'm like this mother fucker looks like Plagueis, and if he survived Palatines attack then he probably could have lived another 50 years into the current era star wars.

Also man phasma was a let down. I thought she was gonna have a major role by the looks of the trailers, not some 10 second hostage fodder.

Edit: he also looks like he has burn marks. Probably scars from force lightning.

You know. I think if my father is Han Solo, and if my parents named me Ben (sorry to all the Bens out there!), I would turn to the dark side too.
I guess this it's kind of lost now with the EU being nuked, but while I'd preferred they just call him Jacen, Ben Solo does fit typical Corellian naming convention. They tend to have simple 1 or 2 sylable first names. Eg: Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Crix Madine.

Finn is a badass. He is an emotional guy who started off as a Janitor and then actually puts up a good lightsaber fight and becomes a hero.

Finn and Poe were both really good characters. Still have mixed feelings on Rey, though most is confusion.

I liked all the characters, honestly, which is why I liked the movie a lot in spite of some structural problems. Great characters carried it through. After PT, we were all starving for some actual characters who seem like people, and we got some great ones.

Rey, even though some of you seem to find her too mysterious (I didn't), is very sympathetic and well acted. I felt like I understood and connected with her even though they don't explain all the details overtly.

Finn was great and helped provide some good banter and comic relief.

Poe was a big surprise. He had more of a presence in the film than I was expecting, and I loved how optimistic he was. He was infectious. Very charismatic guy.

BB8 was adorable.

Han was great to have around for a while..

I liked Kylo Ren as a temper tantrum throwing petulant child wannabe. Was an interesting angle.

I even liked the little female yoda person in the cantina. Hers were some of my favorite scenes.

And Chewie moves on reaaallly quickly. Suddenly he's sidekicking in the Falcon for a young girl he just met five seconds ago.

In fairness, while I would have loved to see Chewie raging out on a bunch of Stormtroopers, he stuck to the mission at hand and got the job done, which is in keeping with his character.

Though I believe he may vent a bit in 8.

Who the fuck is Darth Plagueis. Sorry, but I'm not great with Star Wars canon anymore since I stopped caring after the prequels. I can't tell if this is a real character of if it's a troll gag about Lucas' dumb naming conventions. :/

I was watching a review where the reviewer felt that Finn being good with the saber cheapens the coolness of it. Did you guys feel Finn was good with using the lightsaber? Unless my memory is hazy on it I felt Finn was barely getting by with the lightsaber when someone else had to save him the two times he used it.

So now that I'm posting in the right thread, can we all agree that the final shot is horrendous and possibly, most likely, the worst final shot of all 7 Star Wars films simply in terms of cinematography? A spinning helicopter shot? In 2015? In a Star Wars film? It was ridiculously bad to me.

He was Palpatine's master, mentioned in ROTS.

How do we know what Plagueis looks like? We never see him

After all the shit R2 has seen in the movies and in tv shows, I wouldn't be surprised if he was force sensitive tbh.

I hadn't really thought about this particular issue, but I guess these droids are sentient/self-aware AI. I guess it could happen...?

That or digital midichlorians!

I loved the part where Finn is running to help out Rey then sees she can handle herself, then ends up running away from her all scared and shit lol.

Darth Plagueis is the former master of Sheev Palpatine, who
killed him!!

He is Palpatine's mentor mentioned in the 3rd film. He mentions it to Anakin.

Just watched it a second time and though this is the case with many films I really could see in several places where bits had been cut out for what I'm guessing was time and not flow. I'd be interested in seeing these deleted scenes.
