I was wondering based on the trailers if there would be a "creature-horror" part, like the trash compactor in ANH, the asteroid in ESB and the Sarlacc pit in ROTJ. Wasn't disappointed with the bit on Han's freighter.

Yeah, I think Kylo as an emotionally unstable brat, essentially, is awesome. Felt fresh and a good departure from the usual Sith/dark side mumbo jumbo.

agree with this. he was the most fresh character for me also.
especially liked unsure, wanabe-vader, childish portrayal (wearing the mask, doing the voice etc.)

friends i talked with dont seem to like him much tough.
after watching the trailers i guess people expected more of a new darth-maul type of a villian

Was really nice to see Star Wars without the wooden dialog. Hell, it was really nice to see acting in general.

I loved Oscar Isaac way more than I thought I would. The entire cast was excellent.

Only thing I would have loved to see is Chewie going fucking nuts tossing Stormtroopers around.

His love (Satine Kryze) dies
in the Clone Wars series though. Unless all of that EU has been deemed non-canon.
edit: Yeah, Clone Wars series is canon.

RIP Satine ;_;

The way Obi Wan handled her death was admirable tbh, if that had been Anakin in the same position with Padme in Satine's place he would have fallen to the dark side.

Chewie did go on that little rampage with a blaster after Han died.

I agree with this, this was weakest part for me. He didn't actually need to be visually shown, a menacing voice would have been good enough Thank god he was a hologram though and not an actual giant, otherwise that would have been super weird.

The whole First Order was incredibly weak. Snoke looked like bad CGI and was just a cheesy Emperor analogue. But everything about the First Order felt cheap. The outfits looked cheap, the set dressing looked cheap. They felt more like a comic book villain like Hydra or Cobra Command than remnants of the Empire.

It is kind of funny how Finn was so traumatized by a fellow stormtrooper dying that be became a traitor and killed a whole bunch of them.

I do sense big things from Phasma later. She's been humiliated. She will not forget.

Remember, TFA is a big beginning. You don't have to subscribe to my belief that there are going to be six episodes en route for some of these characters over the next decade to see that it feels like a pilot in some ways. This was her onscreen beginning -- failure. She is going to awaken her inner badass in anger.

There is no way, absolutely no way, Phasma is not a presence in 8, I think her motivation is hunting down Finn, I think it has become personal now and she will fuck him up.

Yeah, what the hell? Why on earth was that not her? Hopefully she comes back as finn's main rival in episode 8. :/

Mainly because it seems they want to keep Phasma around. If she took that role she'd be dead.

That had just killed a bunch of unarmed innocent people in cold blood.

This takes place 30 years after the ot. Rey is only 19 according to the novelization. So more likely a Skywalker than a Kenobi

They have a big problem in the two next movies:

Who's going to fly the Falcon in the next space battle when Rey is dueling someone?

I don't agree about stuff look cheap, but I can see where it stems from: matching the style of ANH, which was made cheaply! I think the things that made the First Order menacing for me, were Kylo Ren and how scared Finn was of them.

So is Kylo Renn a sith? Seems speculation.

Like we all know that Rey is force sensitive or whatever, but that doesn't mean she will end up being the Jedi.

Snoke is Darth Plagueis, I bet

There was some discussion about this elsewhere, and one of the pieces of evidence was that Snoke's theme and the music that plays while Palpatine is telling Plagueis' story are the same/similar.

I listened to that scene and the theme over and over though and couldn't place a similarity.

How come Dooku's eye weren't yellow

the yellow eye thing is stupid

I loved the movie, but my biggest disappointment is Finn seemingly not being Jedi material. I guess Rey was supposed to be a surprise? But from the beginning, they both seemed like they could use the force. I loved the idea of having 2, so if it really is just her....I don't like that. I also don't like the continuing idea of how damn important bloodline is. Everyone should have the ability to use the force at this point. Why is it only Skywalkers/Kenobis/whatever are tuned to it?

What gave you the impression that Finn could use the force?

he was good here

like i said, it's stupid

No, but when the director himself says it flat out, I think it clears things up pretty well.

JJ Abrams said:
“Kylo Ren is not a Sith. He works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.”
