Not really, its only a year and a half away. The wait between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith was pure agony for me.
O my god it's only a year and a halft until episode 8 that makes me so happy. I don't know what it is about this film but it was pure bliss. It's all I have been thinking about since I saw it at the midnight premier and then again on Friday. This movie easily makes my top five and I really love the chemistry the new cast members have it really comes off genuine. It's propley my favorite sci-fi movie and I can't wait until the next one.

I like Finn more than Rey.

And a big eff off to everyone saying he's incompetent. Dude was a crack shot with a blaster (no wonder he wasn't cut out to be a Stormtrooper).
Yeah, Finn truly earned his arc. He went from this coward on the run that knew nothing to completely owning the need to save his friend by any means necessary. Literally the lion that earned his courage. He was taken away from his family and turned into a weapon, but he's turned it around and found a new "family" with Rey, Poe, etc.

I'm warming up to the idea that Rey is Luke's daughter... Because I think that will be her temptation to the dark side.

Think about it. The implication is that Luke abandoned his daughter to live a miserable existence in a desert. She might be momentarily glad to find her father, but... I can see that quickly turning into anger and hate once she realizes.

Or Ren killed her parents, and the temptation will be to kill Ren and become his replacement.

Thing is for her to have a reason to fall to the dark side, she'd have to want to solve something by doing so. Vader wanted to bring order to the galaxy, Luke wanted to prevent his friends from dying (but didn't want to become like his father). Right now they will have to find a pretty damn good reason for her to be tempted by the dark side, unless the just copy Luke's.

Yo huh? Rey is the new Han? How? Did these people not see the movie?

Rey
Living on a sandy planet.
Parents: what parents?
Droid magically falls into her lap.
Droid contains secrets which must be uncovered.
Force sensitive.
Watches her new friend she's just met get slain by a Sith.
Travels to a remote planet to find an old Jedi.

Luke
Living on a sandy planet.
Parents: what parents?
Droid magically falls into his lap.
Droid contains secrets which must be uncovered.
Force sensitive.
Watches her new friend he's just met get slain by a Sith.
Travels to a remote planet to find an old Jedi.

Han
Smuggler
Gambler
Trickster
Loves money
Self centered
Etc

There was so much mirroring in this movie it was blatantly obvious who they want her to be.

Especially considering that in ANH; Lucas originally wanted Han to be black. (One of the reasons Lando was created later on).

Just came back from seeing it. Loved it.

Sad about han though, I choked up 😩

So about rey... Is she Luke's daughter or....?

Also who the hell is snoke and where did he come from. I wish there was more backstory with him and how he turned kylo

The similarities to a new hope are large but purposeful. They needed to wash the bad taste of the the prequels out of everyone's mouth and remind people about how awesome star wars is.

The arm is going straight through the panel. A large chunk is infont of the arm and you see a small point behind the arm

Listening to the soundtrack gives me more appreciation for it, will try listening to the music more on the second watch I think...

Loved it. Still tho, ESB Is my favorite (and one of my favorite films period). I feel like TFA is pretty even with ANH.

And as for new characters, I think Finn is fantastic. Can't wait to see where his character goes. I feel like he's going to end up being the new Solo. Felt like Boyega was great with all the other actors, played off everyone very well.

The characters may be different but the movie goes through virtually the same motions.
Would the movie be more different from ANH if the Death Star was, let's say, a huge device designed to send out a pulse that kills all force sensitives in the galaxy?
In the end it doesn't matter what the giant evil weapon is. It could be anything.

What matters is that the characters are new, their motivations are different from the old crew and they feel fresh. That 'synopsis' ignores all the events that have no analogue in ANH and oversimplifies by saying Kylo Ren is Vader and Rey is Luke, despite their characters being wildly different.

Star Wars will always have a bad guy, so all SW movies will always have a Vader. There will always be an evil faction, so there will always be an 'empire'. There's likely always going to be an even bigger bad guy in the shadows, an emperor. There will always be a protagonist, a Luke. Likely always a wise mentor or two, an Obi-Wan (Han in this one, Luke in the next one). Aerial battles will happen, similar to the attack on the Death Star in ANH.

You will never get a Star Wars movie that has no similarities to the OT.

I loved all the new characters, but I probably like po the best, pity he got the least screen time :/

Also I don't think the starkiller is a lazy design. I mean it's the ultimate weapon, they're obviously not going to go smaller, and it only makes sense to build it

The lack of lore horseshit that sank the prequels helped make this movie great.

Love that they just blew up what looked to be coruscant without even naming the planet. Unintentionally winking to the audience about how little we care about galactic politics.

Who was the dude Kylo killed in the beginning in the village on Jakku...it seemed like the two knew eachother. I originally thought it was his dad but then found out about Han/Leia a few minutes later and forgot about it.

Help me GAF you are my only hope.

It's not about logic, some people just feels that things came to Rey a bit too easy and it would be better for 'a hero's journey' if she wasn't a force genius who so quickly got on top of things. It would be more interesting to me if Finn turns out to be 'hero' or this trilogy being a not a force user, but someone who just out to 'do the right thing.'

we already got that journey with Luke. I don't want to see 4-6 redux. I'm interested how they'll play it out over the next two movies.

Why they hell did they think it was necessary to project a holographic image of the damn Death Star, that Most Iconic of Star Wars iconography. Putting up a Death Star and then putting up Starkiller base right next to it was bad, since the movie had Totally Failed to make Starkiller seem menacing at all. A New Hope pays for the Death Star with Leia watching her family get wiped out, Kenobi being rocked by all the death, Falcon getting stuck in the asteroid field. That threat was present and obvious, Starkiller wiped out 17 trillion people we never met belonging to a nation we don't know anything about on six planets that don't have names and the most we got was a couple people looking up and thinking "bummer". But, you know, it is *bigger* than the Death Star so that's cool right?

Leia's got those too tho. >.>

There's no way to make R2's Force Awakening coherent. Just gotta let is slide as movie expediency.

I agree on all counts regarding Starkiller Base and the total lack of emotional impact or connection to the planet deaths. Abrams has problems with letting scenes breathe. Or maybe they were short on time. The best moments in the movie were the ones where time was given to take things in:

-Han and Ren on the bridge
-Rey walking up to meet Luke
-Ren talking to Vader's mask
-Rey getting tortured

I wouldn't mind a Special Edition/Director's Cut that gives time to explain the significance of the planets and shows people on them or something.

Lor San Tekka. We still don't know a great deal about him but he's a follower of the Church of the Force according to the visual dictionary. Or was.

The most Kenobi could've been involved in Rey's life is by appearing to her as a Force ghost. Other than that, the notion of her being of biological relation to Kenobi is on the same level as Snoke being Plagueis.

Speaking of Force ghosts, something happened in the 30 years between the movies. Anakin must have appeared somewhere along the line, told Kylo Ren how he gave up on the dark side and Kylo Ren/Snoke/whatever must have snuffed out the possibility of Force ghosts ever appearing again out of spite/bitterness/anger.

I care about Galactic polticis, and seriously the fact that the republic seems to be home and no one mentions it is stupid. Like we're told that taking on Starkiller base would be near impossible without that fleet so the restiance didn't really win the day.

Guess it's growing up with the prequels but some.of.my favorite Cline wars arcs were dealing with space politics.

Really enjoyed it. Rey was pretty flawless, Finn was good and funny. Old actors were old but still cool to see. Nobody really acted badly.

What was the point of Phasma. Boring and Chrome. Freighter and monsters, other smugglers was a low point. Scot accents like that in film annoy me no end. The scene was lame sci fi. Solo was amusing though.

They went too far with the Nazi similarities. Wasn't unique enough.

BB8 and Chewie were awesome.

Action was really good, saber battle was cool. Ren losing it was neat. Falcon was awesone.

CGI characters, not a fan, already looks dated. Snook, unknown but found him really dull.

Decent Solo exit.

Luke, well that was short and he looked pissed.

Overall, very entertaining, nothing too new and nostalgia wasn't sickening.

What was the connection with the old man at the start?

Snoke is someone new. Their are 3 books coming out that is supposed to fill in this gap.

Rey no one knows yet, but luke makes the most sense

I feel like the film is an exact remake of the first and second film. Which I don't mind, because now we can safely use TFA as the benchmark - as THE film - to introduce anyone to Star Wars. I don't think going back to older films will ever be the same, since this one has all the tropes, archetypes, and music that made the originals special, but now with competitive VFX and production design.

Higely entertaining. I already have my tickets for tonight an tomorrow.

Talked to my wife about Kylo Ren... She says she liked him till he took the mask off... Because he's an ugly dude under the helmet and she wanted him to be "pretty"... ... ...

Agreed there... the details they left out were irrelevant to the core plot of the movie and would have just bogged things down. That information is out there in the novelizations, etc and on the Internet if people want to look it up.

We don't need to be shown those things as long as their backstory is consistent through out the movies, and the mysteries give people fun things to speculate about.

Yes, the arm is a skinny rectangle.

It's not clipping through the cover. The arm things even more at that spot, then gets bigger again where the lighter is. Can't believe people are arguing over this.

Talked to my wife about Kylo Ren... She says she liked him till he took the mask off... Because he's an ugly dude under the helmet and she wanted him to be "pretty"... ... ...

By the look of the guy's face (and height), she should know he's probably hung. Tell her that.

Not sure where people are getting the idea that no one reacted to the Hosnian system's destruction... wasn't it felt and addressed by the characters like immediately after it happened?

Kylo Ren says that Luke's lightsaber belongs to him because that's actually Anakin's lightsaber, and as the galaxy's top Vader memorabilia collector, he feels it should be his.

So, I think most people agree that TFA was a pretty flawed but still largely enjoyable Star Wars film?

Basically.

The way I see it, It's a Star Wars that has a lot of enjoyable things about it. You just wish they were better utilized

Driver's an unconventional looking guy but I wouldn't say he's ugly. It's nice to have a big budget film not filled with Disney princesses for once.
