[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

R2 didn't have the whole map, so either Luke told him to erase part of it, or it was already missing and Luke never gave R2 ANY map.

So really, the movie actually doesn't indicate Luke even wants to be found AT ALL.

My feeling is Luke never gave R2 any map, or anyone else.

Who knows. For all we know she's completely unrelated. I mean if Luke was training generic Force Sensitive individuals (akin to the Jedi Academy Trilogy in the EU) then they were just individuals who came from no special line but have the ability to use The Force. She could have come from someone like this but given her major role and highly elevated Force sensitivity, it seems she does come from a powerful bloodline. Or she could just be the new Kyp Durron :)

I don't think they're going to make the main character completely unconnected to any of the established family lines. That's just my guess. Having Luke's daughter versus Han and Leis'a daughter is a pretty crazy plot-point if they go that route.

Why didn't he ask him before they went to the starkiller base? Plot hole?

Wouldnt it make 100 times more sense to have him pickup lukes sword on a scanner or something and then wake up.

Ah thats right.

well yes it would make more sense but that's not what happened. JJ himself explained it.

Luke didn't give him a map. He just "happened" to have the map to the original Jedi temple. R2 downloaded it when he was using the computer on the deathstar in 1977. they even refrence it kind of in the movie. When they talk about old empire maps.

You know what I was thinking? JJ's movie seems to have a strict "no prequel anything" rule to it, which is probably a good thing as a pallet cleanser. But if future movies aren't as strict about that, I'd love to see...

Coruscant. Somebody has to go back there for something, and it's now all grown over with flora and fauna. The senate room, the Jedi council room, Palpatine's office. They all have roofs missing and vines growing everywhere. The old senate room is part caved in with the sun pouring in and all the old seats have animal nests in them.

I know that's kind of an old trope, but it would be a cool scene to see the iconic "all city" planet so subverted that way.

It's a double bluff. They made it seem like she was Luke's daughter in the movie, but there's a twist! She's actually Leia's while her and Han were separated! But who is the father? Another twist! She's actually Luke's daughter as well as being Leia's daughter! Star Wars Episode 8, an M Night Shyamalan production.

The Skywalkers keeping it in-house, eh?

The actual reason why R2 booting up was explained by JJ and its not great. BB8 apparently walked up and decided to Ask R2 if he had any maps and surprise in the death star all those years ago he downloaded the map that he needed.

time to boot up.

not joking

Yeah, lucky BB-8 was there with the tiny map they had acquired and now, after Poe and the others saved the rebel base from destruction, decided to ask if R2 knew anything about the tiny map

It makes perfect sense. There were other pressing things to take care of, like destroying Starkiller base, before the two droids could meet

I know, it's just people keep saying Luke gave a map to be found, and even awakened R2 remotely, but the movie doesn't indicate that, all we know is R2 had a partial map, and someone/some people found the other missing part.

So Luke isn't even asking to be found.

About to see this again with my mom and stepdad. My mom watches Star Wars with me as a kid, but I'm not sure if my stepdad remembers anything about the original movies. Curious to see how this holds up without much knowledge of the previous films.

R2 doesn't have any particular map, he just has coordinates to the system Luke is in because of the data he downloaded from the imperial archives in ANH

BB8 meets R2 before they attack Starkiller, BB8 isn't next to R2 when R2 turns back on. BB8 talked to him BEFORE the attack, and R2 didn't wake up.

My money is still on Rey being the sole survivor of the Jedi Camp, with Luke rescuing her, sealing up her memories and hiding her on Jakku until she was "ready" to take on the dark side. She would be unusually strong in the force or something which is why after Kylo fell Luke became concerned she might fall if she was allowed to continue her training without her doing something stupidly heroic beforehand.

.

My money is simply on that Rey is somehow a Skywalker...I mean, the parallels between what she, Luke and Anakin can do has to be purposeful. Plus, with the immediate connection she has with Leia, and Ryo Ken...she is part of the family somehow.

I doubt they are going to get too super deep into the lore and will provide a simple explanation.

I enjoyed it the movie a lot (though it did feel like "A New Hope" remake in lots of ways.

The movie has infected me with all things Star Wars. I can't even stop playing Battlefront right now I just need any excuse to hear the music, soundfx and stay in the world as much as possible.

Ha, I'm so back logged and will be even more after Christmas and I wasnt even in love with the beta and I'm still thinking of getting it. If it's in the Steam sale in in trouble.

I'm just hoping were done with Deathstars. We've had three of them and frankly it was fucking lazy the second time around.

Agree. Not sure how the First Order will continue their conquest in Ep. VIII and IX but there's gonna have to be some other non-Force related threat. Bio-weapon?

Saw it again last night.
I really really like Kylo Ren and General Kuz or whatever. It's just so funny and awesome to have these two idiot kids tattling on each other to snoke and running the empire. It's probably my favorite thing about the movie.

The only people dumb enough to start all this shit again are some angsty kids.

Saw the movie in 2D with the wife Saturday and in 3D with my daughter (8) Sunday.

Enjoyed it very much. The second time I saw it was better than the first. Being able to relax and just take in everything a second time is HIGHLY recommended.

They already had the voice of Ewan McGregor there, so there's no such policy.

Prequel haters masturbate furiously to that idea, but it's not true.
yeah but it sounds like Ewan trying to sound like OT Ben though. That's pretty insignifiant compared to how much it matches A New Hope.

It's a good policy. If they visually had force Hayden in there or a flash of Ewan Mcgregor the entire audience would laugh.

I like the idea of her being a Kenobi

Then we could get a battle between the grandson of Vader and granddaughter of Kenobi. Full circle.

would also give obi wan's "if you strike me down then I'll become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" line some more weight

and rey does kind of look like she could be more powerful than anyone could possibly imagine

I'm on Team Kenobi

If Rey isn't Luke's daughter then it really is the end of the Skywalker line. See if Luke had a son on the side that is now with him that'd be a different story. But you know how depressing it'd be that the Skywalker bloodline is done?

And yes this is assuming Kylo dies. No way in hell does he come back as a good guy after what he has done.

Rey is a Skywalker. Finn is force sensitive. And Poe will have a poetry slam jam.

Angsty kids...

Kylo is 29-30...

So what happened to that zuvio toy. I can understand vehicle toys not accurate to the movie but characters? Its not going to be a very popular toy with zero screen time.

I was bummed when they announced that the characters from 4-6 were returning and they ended up being the least interesting part of the movie.

Ya me too. They wanna pass the torch onto the new gen, and Harrison Ford just couldnt wait to get killed off it seems. Fucking sucks that hes so indifferent to SW. It seems like a hassle every time they ask him a question about it.

There's actually two in there.

They used an altered Alec Guinness line, "Afraid" they turned to "Rey" and then they had Ewan say "Rey, these are your first steps..."

No, don't think so.

I read that it was Guinness not Ewan? they chopped a line of him saying afraid so he was saying "Rey"

It's both.

I don't think it would necessarily break the no prequel idea. The concept of Coruscant existed at least when they were writing RotJ but they scrapped it.

I am theorizing another plotline that Rey is the granddaughter of Obi Wan....Rey is the granddaughter of Anakin/Vader

except this time. Rey does turn him away from darkness into the light.

Ill cry buckets if that happens. reverse of Revenge of the Sith.

This was how I knew he wasn't going to survive the movie.

He was so damned overjoyed to do the press junkets and appearances, because he knew he was going to be freaking done with the franchise lol.
