Now lets all relax to the soothing vibes of Poe Dameron singing Star Wars

I was half expecting the camera to zoom out at the end of The Force Awakens to reveal Rey and Luke are in Scotland on Earth.

And that planet? IT WAS EARTH /PlanetOfTheApes

Welcome to outside the Internet.

I've never met anyone who's talked about the prequels with anything but disappointment and sadness.

Yeah, sorry that a fantasy movie in space doesn't have super realistic dialogue. The OT had shitty, over-the-top dialogue as well. It doesn't bother me either way.

It bothers the shit out of me though

We watched a marathon of the 6 movies before watching VII, including a friend who had NEVER seen a single Star Wars film in his life.

The PT was his favorite trilogy out of the 2. Which would be impossible according to the Internet.

the osmosis of your insipidly awful taste is my guess

There's more to AotC than the bad love scenes. I just rewatched it and enjoyed much of it. I roll my eyes and let it move on. I also think the point, while the acting was bad and corny, that they're both extremely awkward at presenting their feelings and I can see how Anakin who has been training for 10 years without probably ever being in a relationship would say some really stupid shit when put on the spot.

I dunno I can overlook it.

Watching the film I had no idea what any of the planets getting destroyed were. You're given basically no context at all. I thought the general's speech about the Republic being destroyed that day was metaphorical. I thought it was the Republican government at first but thought that couldn't have been it because no one in the films seemed to care. But the entire government of the Republic was essentially annihilated? That didn't come across at all and it really needed some real context.

I mean, we never see Alderaan before it's destroyed but we still know why it's a big deal when it is.

The novelization. The capital was "Hosnian Prime".

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Hosnian_Prime

It's fucken stupid. It should've been Corruscant.

The only reason why Corruscant not being the modern capital world is good is the potential of asking a few questions.

Like, why didn't the Republic use Corruscant as their capital? What happened to Corruscant after the Imperials lost the war?

I like of like the idea that the Republic only kind of holds Corruscant, but it's so rife with ex-imperials, uncertain death traps left by the Emperor and whatever horrible mad science experiments and other horrors the Empire was cooking up at the time that the world has become more ghost town world than city world. No matter how hard the Republic scrubs, they just can't get the stink of Palpatine out.

Anyway, that's going to be my head canon until I see otherwise. Essentially that the planet is on its way to becoming another Korriban.

Welcome to outside the Internet.

A co-worked was talking about TFA today and said it was good but not as good as the old ones. When I asked what exactly did she mean by "the old ones", she said "Well, the other six". Like there isn't even a conceptual difference between PT and OT.
Also for the record, I like ROTS and I don't hold a lot against TPM for being meh.

How about Poe Dameron singing with Kylo Ren and Justin Timberlake?

Do you guys think we'll see a wider variety of fighters next movie? I wish there were A-wings and Y-wings in TFA in addition to Tie Interceptors and Bombers

There are a lot more problems with AOTC than its bad romance scenes as well

as someone who went back and watched the whole OT, and then selected parts of the PT, i cannot fathom in any world where the PT can be considered any good. even the redeeming factors (like ian mcdiarmid having the time of his life hamming it up in RoTS) are based in reveling at how shitty they are. a lot of very talented actors were wasted on the PT because of the poor dialogue and bad direction. seriously, some really great actors seemed like total amateurs because of these issues.

i know it's very easy to point at the redlettermedia deconstruction of the PT to say why they are bad, but those videos are totally right. the PT have serious narrative issues and seem to be clouded in tech-fetishism over having endearing, enjoyable characters.

as for TFA, i found it enjoyable but ultimately a little shallow. it opened strong but it began to crack under its own weight as the film went on. it was fine as a "return to glory", but they need to do better with EP8. empire strikes back is still the high watermark of star wars.

It's mentioned the Republic and Senate were mostly situated in that system.

Yep, and they're pretty minor to me all things considered.

If Rey starts the film with Luke then Finn and Poe have to be on resistance shennanigans together

Make it so

It was very minimal I thought which is a great thing. A few noticeable moments here and there but overall nice and subtle. The trailer for BatvSupes had atrocious 3D

Yeah I hate 3D and it works in this movie, for anybody wondering.

A real bummer they decided to kill Han in this one. Maybe they didn't have much of a choice, but I can't help but feel like Han should've been there with Rey at the end. Let him die in the next one, but I wanted him and Luke onscreen together again.

And I didn't really get the Starkiller base weapon. Does the beam travel across the galaxy to it's target or did the base move to the system it destroyed? Why were Han and them able to see it from the planet they were on? I thought it was Coruscant at first that they fired on but then they called it something else?

The movie should've ended with Rey arriving to meet Luke, only to find him having a conversation with Captain Kirk.

SURPRISE.

Boo-freakin'-hoo. :(

And this is where the fandom loses me. It's one thing to not like the prequels, but to shit on someone for liking something you don't like is disgusting.

Honestly if you don't like the PT fine, but get over your superiority complex in regards to other people if they happen to enjoy those movies.

In universe though it doesn't make sense for the Not-Empire to blow up the home world of the Emperor

I get what you mean, but also remember that most of the planets we visit in these movies we only get a glimpse of one region.

Yeah, but when we see the entire planet in a shot before the landing, they're all covered in 1 solid color. Sometimes 2 to show the planet has water/lava.

Yeah the 3D in Force Awakens is bad, don't get it twisted
It doesn't fall into the terrible darken everything post convert hole, but it's not good

Yep, and they're pretty minor to me all things considered.

The big issue I have with AOTC is it feels like too many characters end up saying/doing things that the person they're with should be doing instead. Like how Obi-Wan preaches patience and thinking things through to Anakin, yet it's Obi-Wan who recklessly jumps out a window after a droid while Anakin goes off to get the Jetsons car. Or Padme being the one who resists falling for Anakin when Anakin should be the one resisting because he's the one who's forbidden to actually fall in love.

There are more examples but AOTC just has so many characters that are just written wrong.

Yeah. It's the usual "I cannot fathom people liking [stuff that I don't like]". Like if their tastes are somehow the standard.

lol!
