he isn't but maybe he can be dlc with his orange and black tie fighter. his piloting skills are up there with the skywalkers if not better.

I loved when he does those epic moves while Finn is watching and Finn yells out "That's one heck of a pilot" or whatever he says. Poe is badass

Yeah, that was a bit strange. I thought for sure there would have at least been a moment of Leia and Chewie embracing each other and grieving together instead of just the two shots of them sitting and sulking.
For some reason I just can't see Chewie being all touchy feely. I think his angry burst with his quick showing of sadness was enough. Chewie is a big ass Wookie who has seen some shit. I dont expect him to be all mushy about it. Just angry and ready to kick some ass. I think he will show his anger plenty next episode. I dont think even Hans death will break him down emotionally. Just piss him off.

I woulf have liked to see some kind of funeral procession or something fo Han though.

I don't disagree with any of this.

Best actor of this generation.

I thought he did a great job as Prince/King John in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. I think that movie is terribly underrated. Too many critics wanted swashbuckling Robin and not a movie with a more historically appropriate tone (despite a real Robin Hood most likely having never existed).

PREDICTION TIME

So based on all the evidence and research I have gathered, this seems the most likely outcome:

Han was ALREADY dying. He spoke with Kylo Ren beforehand and arranged to have Kylo Ren kill him so that Chewie wouldn't have to. This also meant that it would look like Kylo was loyal to the First Order, meaning that the resistance would be able to have an agent in SNoke's inner circle. This way Kylo will be able to sabotage Snoke's plans and keep Rey safe until she is able to kill him to collect the Elder Lightsaber.
You had me going until "Elder Lightsaber". Then it hit me. Bravo.

Yeah but I could see them doing it as a promotion. Battle of Jakku is in there.

What trailers did you guys get?

I got Warcraft, Civil War, Apocalypse, and something called The 5th Wave that I initially mistook for a District 9 sequel.

The Battle of Jakku is a couple of months after Endor at most; they categorize it as OT.

I mean, never say never of course. But DICE has literally gone on record -- recently, even -- insisting that this game is hunkering down on the OT. The sequel will of course seize the fire that is these new movies, and it wouldn't surprise me if toward the end they nonchalantly toss a TFA character or two in the game despite it not making sense.

Anyway, I got Civil War and Independence Day both times. And Zootopia. Don't recall the rest.

Does the story group have creative control over the movie directors? Like if there's a continuity error between episode VIII and some comic book issue, could they make Rian Johnson go back and rewrite his script?

It was kinda strange though how Han almost seemed willing to have Kylo kill him no?

I think he was making a gambit and his facial expressions kinda showed the realization that he was losing the gambit.

I can see Disney "persuading" them.

Oh I forgot that I got Zootopia too. This woman was losing her shit over the sloth scene. The slow laugh expression got a sensible chuckle out of me.

I think John Boyega had the best performance

I have to say Harrison did. His acting was far beyond what I've seen him do in a long time. His character carried the weight of his OT character, plus all that time lapse background with Leia and his son. Plus the death scene. Plus him handing over the torch by guiding Finn and Rey and really taking up a mature role in the resistance. Even though he had that wisecracking smuggler aspect about him, when he turned his attention to the resistance there was a gravity about his actions and words.

Boyega stole the show certainly. But Harrison by far had the best performance, and It's not even close in my mind.

Saw it yesterday and I liked it..

One thing that I absolutely loved was that the world looked more real and not so "clean" like it did in the prequels.

Cast was perfect..

Of course it's not a perfect film but at least it feels like star wars again.

8,5/10

Yeah there's just too much foreshadowing with Rey for it to have been a coincidence he activated when she showed up.

Best part of the movie was when she got the lightsaber. Fuck that dorky Kylo ren guy.

I really enjoyed Force Awakens only some minor quibs (I do not like the helicopter final shot).

But I'd put Rey force grabs Luke's saber in the top 5 of Star Wars movie moments.

My second time around I started to notice some great subtle stuff in his performance. After Leia's "Luke's a Jedi. You're his father." line, you see a lot of conflict and pain in his eyes.

Also, that line was one of my favorites. Hits you hard.

Anyone else find it really odd that they barely spent any time on Chewie to let him react to Han's death? Almost nothing. It's the end of so much history and we barely let him react.

That's the way death works in Star Wars. Grieving is very short and then you are forgotten about. Even Leia hardly grieved. Whatever objective the renaming characters have is all that is important in Star Wars.
One could attribute this to bad writing on George's part, but I think it is part of what made Star Wars so successful, no dwelling, just move the movie forward at a breakneck pace.

My theater erupted into nonstop laughter the likes of which TFA itself rarely achieved both times I saw that trailer. It was crazy.

So my students and I were talking about this today. Who are Reys' parents?? Surely not Han and Leia?

Rey is either Luke's daughter or just a rando who was super force powerful that Luke hid after the temple slaughter.

I doubt think a third possibility is really likely.

I'm in the 78% Luke daughter 22% rando camp.

I thought Han was mostly good but boy all those jokey bits with chewies crossbow were dud city imo. Waaaay too forced.

Eh, probably. They certainly were trying to make sure that the audience knew that being shot by it would be bad. And hurt. So when Kylo gets hit we realize he is severely injured.

Even still many are complaining that he didn't just destroy Finn and Rey.

It would be Kennedy's call but that's why the story group exists so, yeah, that would probably happen. The days of G-canon are supposed to be over.

The complaints of Kylo vs Finn and Kylo vs Rey are dumb.

He did destroy Finn. One he's basically toying with him until he gets swiped then he's like fuck all.

Then vs Rey he's basically on the offensive the whole time she's basically blocking then she channels the force and crushes as SHE SHOULD. Cause guess what? There's two more movies to explain why.

It's definitely up there and the scene also featured the best call back in the musical score, which I felt was otherwise pretty lacking. Although it sometimes takes me a few times to really appreciate a movie's score.

I was thinking that too. Dont you have to be born a Jedi from a Jedi?

- Kylo should've kept his mask on, he doesn't look as menacing or intimidating with his face uncovered.

That's the point. The point is he wants to be taken as seriously as Vader was in the Empire, but he commands little of the respect Vader had due to his outbursts and general moodiness, so he wears the mask to emulate Vader AND to come off more intimidating than he would otherwise.

The first time I saw this movie I couldn't take Harrison Ford seriously. I don't know what it was, but I blame the most recent Indiana Jones movie.

Second time I saw it, I liked him quite a bit. He did a good job playing Han Solo again.

Either this or She is Hans daughter.

but how would they introduce and explain Mara

There will be a scene where Maz explains a great "movement" within the force, and they'll cut to footage of the tons of EU fans over the decades cosplaying as Mara Jade in various conventions, and then Maz will say "it had to happen, their will was too strong".
