Your "fear"? Haha. Star Wars has pitifully few female characters, and had treated them all badly, and the thing you're most concerned about is some vague, ill-defined harm for the story of the new trilogy?

You do care about female characters in stories,

It's also the right thing to do.

I said that, thanks for reading my whole post?

LOL

Poe
should have kissed Finn on the lips while he was unconscious. Hollywood pretends to be progressive but are scared to death of showing a kiss.
Fixed that for you

I saw a fan art of Rey, Finn, and Poe yesterday but I can't find it anymore. It's Rey point at Finn and says something like "that's Finn, He's my boyfriend and That's Finns boyfriend Poe" can someone link me to it

It's on the last page.

Edit: Two pages ago. This thread moves at ludicrous speed.

I just came back from my second viewing, and it's true, all of it... Movie's even better the second time. I paid close attention to the Kylo/Rey fight, because there's the never-ending power level discussion... It's just so obvious that Rey is fighting a highly weakened Kylo Ren. Not only did he take that bowcaster shot, but Finn also manages to hit him once with the saber, and he looks very unhinged in general (just having killed your father could add to that). There are a couple of close-ups to the blood trail, so it's pretty obvious they're telling us he's pretty weak at that point.
Also missed some stuff the first viewing: only noticed the huge scar Rey gave him now. Ren also got Finn good, that was a nasty cut across his back.

Have to agree with all the people thinking Ren is an interesting character and villain. He does nothing but fail in this movie and that's what makes him intruiging. The fact that he's an angsty teen now, will only make his overall arc more interesting, because we'll probably see a very different character in later episodes. Ren is like the 'slow burn' character of the movie: the more you think about him, the more interesting he gets.

Also: people mentioned this before, but Rey's fighting style is very similar to Palpatine's, with those typical thrusts.

Did you see whether Rey cut off Kylo's hand(s?) or if that was his lightsaber?

Two things:

Rey should have briefly tried to force pull defeated Kylo into the chasm with him clutching at the snow. This would have shown that even she has that dark potential. I know she had just started using the force but she did pull the saber towards herself so in that intense moment a reflex might have had her able to pull him even just slightly. It would have given her even more depth of character and when Luke ends up training her the audience will know that she had a moment and that even she could go bad like Kylo.

Rey should have kissed Finn on the lips while he was unconscious. Hollywood pretends to be progressive but are scared to death of showing a kiss. People who say they didn't want romance make no sense. Sexual tension is important in Star Wars and always has been. I hope this changes in the next film. I expect that Finn ends up with Lando's daughter or something stupid like that. Interracial relationships happen it shouldn't be that edgy. Screw the "backlash" because we all know "backlash" is really just a vocal minority in comment groups and forums. Most don't care imo. If Finn stays friend-zoned with Rey and she ends up with that Poe guy I will lol.

Meh, we had romance in PT and OT. I would gadly pass about having one again.

And no, I don't care about the interracial stuff. I'm actually glad there's a male lead.

Also, we have 2 movies yet to see. If they fall already in love it would feel rushed as fuck.

I go both ways on Finn / Rey. It'd be kind of cool if she didn't have a romantic entanglement at all. Luke maybe teaches her that.
I find it really funny that people assume Rey is attracted to men given that the movie gives no indication to suggest this (heteronormativity and all).

She could be gay, and in fact I'd say her being gay fits her character better.

Did you see whether Rey cut off Kylo's hand(s?) or if that was his lightsaber?

Kylo still has both hands at the end, one hundred percent.

EDIT: I should mention I'm certain of this because when I went to check it a second time it was one of the things I was checking out for the most, because I was unsure after my first viewing.

But I just hope to Christ they don't give her a love triangle. Katniss's was so fucking boring.

Finn being in the friend-zone is canon

So good lol

Yeah, poor dude. Especially since it's clear that Lucas did a shit job directing actors. He got bad performances out of a lot of good actors. But I can't really blame directors not wanting to take the risk with him: every review and all the buzz would've been contextualized back to Star Wars, it's a lot of baggage saddle your own project with.
Even in the original Star Wars he barely directed the actors. Carrie Fisher said pretty much the only direction she got from him was "You're sad because your home planet will be destroyed" during the Leia and Tarkin scene.

And here's some more. The Rey/Finn/Poe shipping is unstoppable at this point:

Jesus... can we not sit around and hypothesize about this... How about we all just agree to table this one and wait for the movie to tell us, if they decide to.

To further speculate on the Rey/Kenobi connection - someone suggested to me that the wooden crate Maz has is actually Kenobi's from his home in A New Hope, which he also pulls Anakins lightsaber from. Anyone else think there's something to this?

It's not that surprising. It's Finn who Rey has the most screentime with, after all.

That said, the attraction seems mostly one-sided for now, though it could grow into something more over the course of the trilogy.

Yep, sure seemed that way, although something was chopped off. Probably just cloth. That facial scar is there to stay though

Observations from my second time...

• There is absolutely a tie between Rey and Obi-Wan. During the vision sequence, right before Rey snaps out of it, someone who sounds exactly–and I mean exactly–like Obi-Wan says "Rey" very audibly. Missed it on my first showing, unmistakeable on the second.

• Also, I didn't catch it the first time, but the crying child in the basement/dungeon/storehouse is Rey.

• When Kylo is reading Rey's mind, he mentions she's been having dreams of an island in the sea. No doubt Luke's island.

• Snoke has a scar in the same area on his face as Kylo after he's beaten by Rey. Maybe Snoke is Kylo's future self. #starwarsception

The guy just has so much fun being evil, the thought of crossing over to the light probably never crossed his mind.

It is true. That guy loves being evil. To a degree that's almost admirable. Like, I hate his guts for all the heinous shit he's done to protagonists over the years, but you've got to be a little impressed with a guy that willing to commit to the bit like that.

True facts: Sometimes, my younger brother and I will hold whole conversations when we're one long car trips together doing Palpatine impressions on both sides. Just like, normal conversations about traffic and the weather, but in that sneering super evil voice of his. We both try to last as long as we can until one of us busts up laughing. It's a good time. Usually starts when one of us says "Do it." for some reason.

Adam Driver already plays a better Anakin in Kylo than Hayden chirishtssten ever did

dude even ends up with long hair and a face scar

not that the movie is doing that as a coincidence considering he's the biggest anakin fanboii

The answer I need to know is why, if Kylo was so obsessed with his grandfather, not appear in ghost form to try and keep him away from the dark side path?

You do care about female characters in stories, right?

It's also the right thing to do.

The right thing to do is treat her as a complex and struggling hero like all heroes in the story (and most stories) are. To not write her as a dynamic character capable of great and terrible things is insulting and patronizing to even putting a women lead in it at all.

I don't want to get political about this. Its just one movie. Her arc is far from being complete. Her as a lead is fantastic, but I hope they don't "one note her" to pander to an audience that wont accept subtlety and conflict in female characters.

A women lead should be capable of doubt, temptation, conflict, and the ultimate overcoming of these things to be truly relatable human being and hero for all people to identify with.

But Yoda also spoke during that sequence. It's just people connected to that lightsaber is what I thought.

Somehow I think Luke/Leia being brother and sister would only strengthen their resolve.
Well, you did have to be a special kind of strange to not root for Han when they clearly had the most chemistry. I think anyone that must have been rooting for the twins gave up by ESB when Luke got sidelined at the end.

Goddamnit, I'm going to miss Han Solo.
