[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

I think I'd like a new series set between 6 and 7 personally. Less Jedi Council and Sith Lords and robots and racist Asian fish people and all that.
I would like this as well but I don't think the ADHD generation of today would be happy about the lack of Force Users. It wouldn't make sense for there to be all these OP Jedi wondering about, Luke wouldn't have had enough time to set things up for that. But I'd be fine with it, bring on the Bounty Hunter RPG.

how fucking awful would it have been if the saber moving a bit on the snow and flying past Kylo was Luke suddenly showing up

I thought it for like a second and felt gross

Am i the only one who makes two parallels during this movie?

First; Middle Ages legends with Excalibur (Anakin lightsaber) who chose Rey to Kylo (Ren is not his name! It's his title like Darth for the sith) . The first "order" like the templars and of course Kylo's lightsaber .

Second: ...well looks like this trilogy will be Avatar the last airbender right?
I thought that too!! He's Zuko!

Luke is more Mary Sue than Rey

Luke without training fought against Vader and ships and cannon and blew up the Death Star single handedly

Rey could barely escape from 2 fighters and Ren was so
Weak he got injured from Finn , Vader would have sliced Finn in 5 seconds

Max landis wants to make sense but he doesn't

Its all about making it seem more plausible. Luke had been informed about the force and even had some basic instruction from Obi Wan, he also saw Obi Wan using it throughout the film. He then only uses it to feel the shot, its not like he started pulling and pushing things around with the force, or using the mind trick.

Then in ESB he struggles to pull the lightsaber from the snow and then spends the middle part of the film training with Yoda, it seems more believable.

If this film had been the first it wouldn't have mattered if she quickly became competent, its just we have established in the previous trilogy its not super easy.

This could be explained in the next film however, as Rey may of been previously instructed but has forgotten somehow.

People talk about Kylo being wounded like he was clipped in the shoulder. Dude was shot in the stomach by a gun that sent people flying 10 feet backwards earlier in the movie. He wasn't just wounded, he was dying.

The way he was punching his chest seemed like he was using the force as a defibrillator or something.

Did you even watch Jedi smdh nobody's ever beyond saving.

Unless the new trilogy is some kind of first relative for him, nah!

I really liked her character, the most interesting of the new characters outside of the core three. And it was nice to have someone who has a broader perspective on the current conflict; she's seen some shit in her time.

Just took my younger daughter to see it. She'd seen ANH and Empire a few years ago, and so was kinda familiar with them. Some initial confusion about the sides on the conflict aside, she loved it. It's been fun to watch these with my family who are not as big a fan of Star Wars as I, and find it works for them really well. They don't get all the references and history with the characters, but totally got sucked into the story and characters. The credits rolled and Bridget turns to my wife and I, "I hate cliffhangers!" She just wanted it to keep going. Pretty good sign for the future of the series.

Yup. It's all right there.

I liked her, she was a little Ajumma. Perfect for the part she played in the story.

I hope it turns out that Luke isn't her father, because at the moment, it's hard to accept the film's core premise - Luke abandoned his daughter on a shit-hole, dangerous planet.

Man hands down my favorite scene was when Rey force pulled Luke's lightsaber past Kylo Ren. Coupled with the Burning Homestead track, it gave me chills both times I saw it.

Titanoba yes! He's like Zuko because he's conflicted with the light side. I think Kylo Ren will be a GREAT villain and he will not be like a "thanos" villain like snoke "muhahaha i'm the bad guy".

Kylo Ren will be special, and he will be different than Darth Vader and that..it's really difficult to create. Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villain of all time and for his FIRST movie, Kylo Ren is good.

Also like Avatar the last airbender, during three season we saw Aang and Zuko evolve. In this trilogie it will be the same with Rey and Zuko.
I don't think they will be in love together (yes i saw that on tumblr -_- ) they will be great antagonist.

The last battle between Kylo and Rey is full of great things for the future. We have a new great duel like we didn't have it since... what? i can't remember... Naruto/Sasuke in 2004?

I find Rey being Luke's daughter more and more implausible, especially when she says stuff like "Luke Skywalker? I thought he was a myth."

I hope it isn't true because I think it would be incredibly dumb to base the new trilogy around the conflict between the original characters' kids.

"It's our family tradition for Forcemas. BTW, I also turned to the Dark Side meanwhile."

yeah it's kind of stupid too when you see how obi-wan dropped the kids off with responsible guardians at the end of episode 3 AND he would be in contact with luke as well ("I know a Ben Kenobi")

here rey's dropped off by luke to scavenge for her food lol, like father like son I suppose. i already think Luke is a wasteman after the events of force awakens, they don't need to do this to sully his rep even more.

You could do a clone wars style and have it jump between Luke's Jedi, New Republic and Empire stuff, and then the seedy Underworld.

Excellent. Love stories like this. Very happy for the little ones that get to see this one.

Oh yeah, the more I've been thinking about it the more I think Kylo might have been the best part. Which is really weird because I've always felt like an alien when people were fawning over Maul and Dooku and to a much lesser extent even Vader. You don't even need another Death Star, just give me parallel training montages in 8 and them dealing with each other for all of 9.

I hope it turns out that Luke isn't her father, because at the moment, it's hard to accept the film's core premise - Luke abandoned his daughter on a shit-hole, dangerous planet.
I keep trying to think of a way that Rey could be related to Luke and yet Kylo doesn't recognize her at all (when he brings her aboard the ship and searches her mind and she searches his). It's hard.

rey was also missin daisy ridley ridiculously cute and stupid wide smile

her mouth just wants to escape through the cheeks

Definitely. Some folks think that would've been a good move. Would've ruined the whole thing for me.

I don't understand how stormtrooper can now have weapons to counter lightsaber... because if they have it , that's mean that Snoke is afraid of Jedis...and more than Luke.
