[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

Just rewatched it, liked it even more.

*I know "Mary Sue" is thrown around alot, but Rey is a little too good at things, especially using the force & flying the falcon
*I swear I heard Alec Guinness during the flashback scene
*Pretty damn sure Rey is Luke's daughter
*During the interrogation I notices Ren said he could see an island & an ocean in Rey's memories
*One thing I didn't like is that there was no feeling of the vastness of space; literally being across the galaxy in a matter of seconds
*Loved the sets and creature designs
*Needed more lens flare
*Ending shot still continues to bother me; so dumb and awkward as they stare at each other & how rey holds out the lightsaber for about a minute as the helicopter circles around them

just saw the movie...never have been a fan of star wars,but the movie was solid..although a bit predictable and followed the original trilogy recipee to the letter.
actually,it was so "simple" to follow the same recipee that one might wonder how they managed to screw up that much with the prequels

I kind of had that vibe with Han Solo too, especially in the 2nd film. He really took control of the gang and handled all their problems like they were nothing. I actually thought Rey would be the "Han Solo" of the new Star Wars films.

The one issue with Rey being so damn good at everything is her being the one to train under Luke. There are zero stakes to the training, she already seems way better than Luke was in the first 2 movies, why should I care if she gets better or not? We saw what a mook Luke was in the first film (despite being an ace pilot, he still seemed like he needed a lot of saving), so Yoda training him was a big deal. I just wish they didn't make a "Luke's child" character for the sequels. I think they should have went in their own direction with the characters honestly.

Without training she's going to get more and more powerful and not understand how to wield it and where to channel it, and succumb to the anger she started experiencing at the end of her duel with Kylo where she was very obviously beginning to pull from the dark side without realizing it. It seemed like the force itself intervened by cracking the ground open and physically pushing them away from each other to prevent her from going too far in that moment.
 
how cool would it be if Rey is Shmi Skywalker before she travelled in the past?

Well imagine ending of episode 8...
Rey: STOP! Join the good side! Listen Anakin and not VADER!
Kylo: NOOO! You never understand Anakin! I'm his grandson! You never understand WHY he choose the dark side! You didn't know him!
Rey: "NO I'M HIS MOTHER!!"

Because the training is not that big an emotional investment, I kind of almost hope it happens between films. That both she and Luke just rock up in the middle of some big battle between the Resistance and the New Order and kick all the bad guys teeth in and they're both like, "Sup, other protagonists. You guys want to do some adventures or something?"

No one cares about seeing Rey balance rocks. We know she can do it. Let's just cut to the Star Wars.
 
I think the opening post for thread 3 should have a list of commonly addressed topics so the thread doesn't keep going around like a carousel. Stuff like "What is the political relationship between the First Order/Resistance/New Republic?", "Who is Snoke?", "What books should I read?" etc.

Heard them say on the Empire podcast that when you hear Obi-Wan say "Rey?" That actually was Alec. They plucked it out of him saying the word "Afraid".

Ewan also has a line that's brand new where he says, "Rey, these are your first steps."

Curious they would go to all that trouble to put to Obi-Wan lines in, both of which address Rey directly.

Someone in the thread said the Falcon is a modified Corellian freighter, so she probably couldn't tell the difference between it and a random Corellian freighter. Also, she knew who Han Solo is but didn't recognize him either.

Maybe she is one of the survivors of the Knights of Ren slaughter. Luke abandoned her by refusing to train anyone any longer, and as a result, she was abandoned somewhere since her parents couldn't afford another private school where she wasn't a scholarship student like at Jedi Academy.

I solved the mystery.

And you usually don't imagine Han Solo, Magnificent Bastard and War Hero tooling around the galaxy in a pile of garbage.
 
I like the idea of Luke actually burning down his school on his own (hand on R2 scene) cause he failed at shit with Kylo and is all "ugh fuck this I suck"
 
Is anyone with me that Obi Wan was getting a little alone time with Padme's decoy while Qui-Gon and Padme were doing official Trade Federation stuff? I vote Rey Kenobi.

I supposed I should've figured that. I've admired (from afar) how well- fleshed out the SW universe is.

Oh yeah! This might be the definitive clue. Also those calling Luke a bad father, should consider why he did what he did.
