I just bought Devil May Cry 3.

Boy, was that a mistake

It doesn't have to be.

Install the Style Switcher mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry3/mods/1/?
It comes with bug fixes and should fix most, if not every issue.

If you have controller problems after installing the mod, try motioninjoy or xpadder.

If you still have problems, they might be Windows 10 related or due to something else. In which case, this should fix it: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514253680

With the mod it works perfectly for me. It's a shit port, but with the Style Switcher mod and other mods (which can be found here (http://www.nexusmods.com/devilmaycry3/?) and here (http://s1.zetaboards.com/InfernalWorks/forum/1659736/)), it becomes the best version of the game.

I'd rather give up the ability to have refunds if it meant getting the better discounts back.

EDIT: How about a system where I can choose to waive my ability to refund my purchase of a game in exchange for an additional discount? I can dig that.

Dang, Undertale looks good at that price. Not much of a discount, but the original price was low anyways. Then there's SOMA I need to get and maybe PoE for a second time. So many games, so little time...

Yeah, I started to realize that after initial posting, where I just had to went my frustration with the dailies/flash during the last two sales :).

I felt that they at least for me had played out their role when they were repeated as much, and I definitely value the refund opportunity much more then dailies now.

My man.

This issue is somewhat tough to visualize because people were so attached to the daily system and there are some big picture narratives involved in justifying the change.

There will definitely be some growing pains, and I'm extremely surprised Valve didn't push a meta game to increase consumer engagement over the course of the sale.

"Any purchases of this game between now and January 4th are non-refundable".

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, but I don't think anyone is asking for that, even if it means we get good daily deals. Although I've never refunded anything on Steam personally, I'm really excited about the refund policy because I know some users genuinely have problems running certain games. Before refunds were a thing, the answer was "Bought a game that doesn't work? Tough shit, you just lost your money. Maybe you'll be able to run the game some day when you buy new hardware."

I wouldn't want to have to move backwards like that, or set a precedent where refunds weren't an option 100% of the time.

So... There's no reason for us to check Steam every day at 1 anymore?

That sucks. Used to look forward to logging on to see what's on sale that day.

I feel like they could maybe do dailies again if they make a quick and easy way to essentially price-match a copy of the game you bought in the last X number of days to the new price for Steam Wallet credit. And yeah obviously all refunds would be for the amount t purchased at, not whatever it is at the time.

Look on the bright side, people - one hour until new card drops for browsing queues. :)

Hurray!

I don't get the point of the comic. Maybe it's not for me, I don't see the point in the effort put into it I guess. It's one panel essentially a day, with some story that will cater to who exactly? Soccer mom's and other similar folks going "That's cute"?

How come people think this sale sucks? A lot of games in my wishlist are at an all-time low if ITAD is something to go by. Basically, to me it seems like a lot of games have Daily/Flash level sales already.

I don't miss it.

People who say it sucks mostly seem to miss the excitement of daily/flash deals.

(FWIW, I agree with you, but I also see that point)

Alright...thanks for everyone's confirmation on KSP. I didn't realize it had a sandbox mode so when I'm not sitting with them they can still play it. Makes it a much easier sell.

So that's:

Kerbal Space Program
Lego Star Wars Complete Saga
Lego Star Wars III
Lego Marvel Super Heroes

$10 left to troll the lists.

Refunds are likely one of the main reasons this change was pushed through. When you have this many financial institutions and consumer laws in place, you can't have massive refunds clogging up the financial system due to ignorant purchases during a sales period.

The reality is, the old system would be impossible under the refund umbrella.

Big picture thinking is one of the harder parts of these types of discussions.

Technically illegal due to certain consumer laws.

I wonder how prevalent refunds are. During the Arkham Knight fiasco, Steamspy data did not show an appreciable drop in ownership at the time or ever. Even when sales were suspended, it had a slow growth in ownership data.

  • Buy game when it's on a daily deal, store in inventory
  • Refund purchase after Jan 4th
  • Activate game from inventory
  • ...
  • Profit!
It's a tricky proposition.
Not how it works. You get refunded the amount you paid, not the amount it cost at the time of the refund.
corect me if I'm wrong

Pillars of Eternity is ~$7 on Nuuvem.

Pillars has a Latin America depot on SteamDb for key activations. The depot has: AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting | No .

If I bought it from Nuuvem, would I be able to activate it, and if I could - would there be any other restrictions or limitations upon my version compared to buying through Steam?
Isn't the more important question you should ask yourself "if I only paid $7 for Pillars of Eternity, would Durante still talk to me?".

The answer is yes. But grudgingly.

In all seriousness, this is clearly a JaseC question.

And yeah obviously all refunds would be for the amount t purchased at, not whatever it is at the time.

Even if that were an option (like a price-match guarantee) a lot of publishers would be hesitant to want to be included in any daily deals knowing that the difference in their previous X number of days of revenue for that game would be forfeit.

Not how it works. You get refunded the amount you paid, not the amount it cost at the time of the refund.

You're not wrong but you missed my point. You could simply purchase a second copy of the game to store in your inventory (at the lower, hypothetical "daily sale" price) and activate it once your refund goes through at the higher price you paid. Essentially it would be a convoluted way of giving yourself a price-match guarantee on Steam but it would take some time/effort.

Thankful for no dumb clicker metagame this time. Well, it's sort of clicker game, but it only takes about 10 clicks.

I am not disappointed due to a lack of dailies/flash sales, but because my wishlist is only showing 0-30% on most titles. I miss seeing a ton of 66%-75% off impulse buys.

However, that could also be due to the fact I have participated in Steam sales for over 5 years and basically have everything I want and the few I'm missing are more new releases which have more modest discounts.

There will definitely be some growing pains, and I'm extremely surprised Valve didn't push a meta game to increase consumer engagement over the course of the sale.

I would have helped. I really liked the ones where you had to actually play games, and get achievements to progress. I'm hoping for something like that in future sales.

And I think people are being too negative when they're saying that there aren't any good sales.

Cities: Skylines is 60% off.
Chaos Reborn is 50% off.
Double Fine and Pixeljunk have great discounts on their games.
Shadowrun: Dragonfall for 2.99€ is a fantastic price.
Etc.

I wonder if Valve wouldn't make more money with Daily and flash deals.

I know that some consumers, specially the more casual ones may just be looking for a specific game to go for a sale, search that one, purchase it and carry on but with flash deals and daily deals many consumers felt the need to buy them because time was running out. Not only that but because the time window was smaller some acted on impulse or didn't even reflected much about weather they really wanted the game or not. Impulse purchases can bring more money to Valve but perhaps a huge list is more profitable for them in the long run?

As a consumer, I like a quick look at the deals. A huge list takes a bigger portion of my time and I end up getting a bit lost after so much scrolling down. I've noticed that as I keep scrolling some games were being repeated which makes my selection harder and more time consuming.

Regarding the fun part, I can't relate. Sure, it was interesting to see that silly hype every day when news deals arrive but aside of that I can't see the fun part in spending my money. I just search for something I might fancy and I purchase like any other grocery item on a daily basis. I do miss those games like back in the day when people were getting coal and transforming that to something interesting but it seems that such thing has gone. Any thoughts?

Bought undertale, I guess it's finally time to jump on the hype train for this little game. As well as Dropsy, a quirky yet deep point&click, which is only €/$5!

Is Dark Souls still worth getting (only $5)?

I have never played it (dont hit me). I know this is a favorite round here, but from the read, the online part is pretty prominent. Is this still played online quite a bit?

Also how is LAN coop. If both me and a buddy get this can you play LAN or is it easy to find each other online. Will we get bombarded by high level peeps jumping into our games and griefing us?

Is it good out of the box on steam, or will this take lots of manual patches and mods to make it enjoyable.

Is it better just to get Dark Souls 2 if Coop LAN is the target?

Thanks.

Yeah it's worth getting. Online play isn't required to have a good time with it, but it really adds something interesting to the game and the way it's implemented is unique and well done, although it's geared towards playing with random strangers. It is possible to play with friends but you'll have to jump through a few in game quirks and hoops to do it. Your first time through the game you may not see or meet that many people in certain areas but there are quite a lot of players still playing at the higher endgame levels at around the pvp ranges between lvl 80-120. Steam sales ensure new people are added to the playerbase frequently though.

It is highly recommended and required to use Durantes DSfix mod to play at 60fps and 1080p or higher resolutions. It's a simple and quick fix. The other thing you need is a controller. Keyboard controls are not very good for this type of game.

I'm not sure if you can straight up LAN play with the games.

Even if that were an option (like a price-match guarantee) a lot of publishers would be hesitant to want to be included in any daily deals knowing that the difference in their previous X number of days of revenue for that game would be forfeit.

Yeah probably. Dailies would be super front-loaded or not much of a change. Unless maybe Valve is willing to eat some of the difference. Seems like a hard problem to solve.

I think that might be the case.

I'd argue kb/m controls are pretty good for the type of game, just not for Dark Souls in particular since the implementation sucks :P

So prices wont change for a whole Steam Sale?

---
Hmm Satellite Reign for 9€, if i only that will launch it :P

Arma 3 for 2€?! Wow

I think that might be the case.

I dunno, not sure how digital keyboard inputs could work very well when the game often demands a wide range of analog inputs for both navigating levels and fighting enemies.

I wasn't a big fan of Ys: The Oath in Felghana - Any point in trying the other games?

Bought DkS2... That's it so far. Must've spent less than £100 on Steam sales this year.

What did you dislike about it? If you didn't like the combat, then yes there is little point of interest for you.

Where would Mask/Dawn/Celceta and V fit in?
I don't see what that has to do with steam?

I'll answer your question nonetheless, Celceta chronologically takes place after Ys II but you can play it without caring about any order, it was designed for that. You'll just miss out on reference to ALL the previous games before it. V takes place before VI.
