I wasn't a big fan of Ys: The Oath in Felghana - Any point in trying the other games?
Why were you not a big fan?

Origin is pretty dissimilar in overall structure, but comparable (and superior) in moment-to-moment gameplay.

It also controls best out of any game of that type I have played. It's a true joy to play.

Isn't the more important question you should ask yourself "if I only paid $7 for Pillars of Eternity, would Durante still talk to me?".

The answer is yes. But grudgingly.

In all seriousness, this is clearly a JaseC question.

As I was hitting submit it I was thinking "Is posting this worth the shame I will feel from the endless scorn of Durante?"

It turns out my shame is worth like, $11.

Bought DkS2... That's it so far. Must've spent less than £100 on Steam sales this year.

i'm pretty sure those games are all the same

and by the same i mean bad

I for once have an request.

Can anyone recommemd me some relatively cheap (under $8, maybe) quirky Japanese games? Be it platformers, doujinns, visual novels, whatever. I'm pretty open. I like quirky Japanese games and curious what might be recommended to pick up and want a few more in my life.

If it's not specificallt Japanese but has that unexplainable 'quirkiness' some odder but interesti g Japanese games have, I won't be too bothered.

Cave Story, Kero Blaster.

What did you dislike about it? If you didn't like the combat, then yes there is little point of interest for you.

Lack of polish (controller prompts would've been nice. I know it's an old game, but so is TitS FC), boring puzzles & upgrade system, so-so combat. Felt like Diablo - combat depth + things to dodge. It's alright, but after a few hours and boss kills, it just felt really unsatisfying.

Unholy Heights sounds right up your alley. It's only $2, and has a Very Positive rating on Steam.

not sure what you've played but reccetear and/or chantelise? both are fantastic games and have lolis which is a japan thing if you're into that

lovely planet is also very much japanese, megacheap and is a blast to play, at least until the later stages, then it's just grueling if you're a baddie like me

So quick downloads question... I bought a game and I'm trying to download it, but it seems like every five minutes steam will move it to my queue and say it's scheduled to download in another 5 minutes. Stuff eventually downloads, but much slower than it should if it was just download it.

I don't have the limit your downloads between two time periods option turned on, just wondering what would cause this behavior?

You can purchase This Starry Midnight We Make and support SpaceDrake/Carpe Fulgar for help bringing TitS:SC to us.

the sale is boring, but then again we are used to it being "a game" with time, price mistakes our need to sleep and metagame.
Aside from gog and steam I don't know any store that went out of their way to make sales entertaining, it works without entertainment part obviously.
We'll get used to it, it also saves me money, so it can't be all bad.

Thankful for no dumb clicker metagame this time. Well, it's sort of clicker game, but it only takes about 10 clicks.

39 at least

Pillars of Eternity is ~$7 on Nuuvem.

Pillars has a Latin America depot on SteamDb for key activations. The depot has: AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting | No .

If I bought it from Nuuvem, would I be able to activate it, and if I could - would there be any other restrictions or limitations upon my version compared to buying through Steam?

ACRTAG doesn't affect retail keys, with the exception of gift copies granted by the sub in cases where the key was activated in a region that is trade-restricted. That being said, if the sub you linked to is indeed the one Nuuvem's keys are tied to, you'll need to be connected to a VPN server in one of the listed purchase-restricted countries in order to activate the key, but it's otherwise region free. FlyVPN has a couple of free trial accounts, each with a server in Peru.

Gaf, should I do it? I'm especially not sure about Divinity. I love RPGs, but I wouldn't play it in Coop. Does it hold up as a Singleplayer game?

Can anyone recommend some fun games with 4 player packs? I want to pass out a few cheaper ones to my friends list. Right now my eye is on Lethal League.

well, this rescheduling thingie is really annoying and happens to all of us, but every 5 minutes? It shouldn't be like this. I'm not sure what you can do about it, I usually manually move it up for downloading and check from time to time if it's larger download, but I never had exactly this problem you describe.

Hmm, thanks for the info. Not sure how comfortable I feel activating through VPN so I'll probably skip out on it this time and just wait it out. Its good to know that ACRTAG keys are activation restricted for the future tho.

I'll say no, and everyone else will say yes. Story is shite, combat animations take forever (sitting through 5-10 minutes of sluggish enemy animations for faceroll fights is just soul crushing), and the characters are pretty uninteresting.

Yeah probably. Dailies would be super front-loaded or not much of a change. Unless maybe Valve is willing to eat some of the difference. Seems like a hard problem to solve.

It is a difficult problem if your end goal is to have limited time only sales back to back within the refund window (two weeks, in this case). But I don't think in general are lamenting the daily deal's superior discounts, but more that this sale offers a lack of engagement that kept us coming back every 8 hours in previous sales to see what the next set of deals would be. Sure, the discounts aren't as high as they used to be for a lot of stuff but there isn't much Valve can do about that - they asked publishers to set their "rock bottom price as if this were a daily deal in years past" and the prices you see now are the result. Valve can't make the publishers give a higher discount.

Another trend that's inevitable here is that Steam has reached a point of saturation in regards to it's available content but also in regards to it's user base. In the past, it made sense for big publishers to put their games on sale with a good discount during the Steam sale, because the Steam sale itself was a big consumer draw and there wasn't much competition on the platform. When I joined Steam in 2011 there were approximately 2,000 games on Steam, now there are over 7,000. Steam's userbase has grown at an amazing rate too, so when you combine these factors together it makes sense to provide less of a discount to a larger number of people (knowing you'll get a high number but lesser percentage to pay it) than it does to offer something crazy like 75% off (knowing more people will buy it, but you'll get less revenue) when you're competing with other games that are discounted at 80%-90% or higher for the duration of the sale.

Valve could have definitely worked some magic here in regards to customer engagement. Last year's "gem auction" was a great example - if I remember right, they even got the "prize games" donated to them. Sales would be a good opportunity for them to roll out new site-wide features too, as I mentioned in a previous post. Stump suggested they could have done something with targeted discounts done via stackable coupons. The bottom line is, knowing that they wouldn't have daily or flash sales in this sale and choosing to not do something else for constant customer engagement is a bit of a puzzling decision and it's definitely leading to a higher than usual number of people thinking "this sale sucks".

The answer is yes. But grudgingly.

Will you stop talking to me becauce I got PoE for free (thank you, you know who you are) and haven't started it yet (due to waiting for 3.0 patch and xpac?)

I think that might be the case.

Why do you have Unrest and Tales of Maj'Eyal in your wishlist instead of your library? O_o

Its good to know that ACRTAG keys are activation restricted for the future tho.

They're not. It's the PurchaseRestrictedCountries and AllowPurchaseFromPurchaseRestrictedCountries flags that control activation eligibility and they're completely unrelated to ACRTAG.

Damn, this is exactly what I was worrying about

I got Aces Wild for a couple bucks yesterday

that looks like a hoot

Well that is significantly better to know then.

Well, then you probably should give up on it.

(FWIW, I think the combat in Ys Origin is in an entirely separate category to Diablo(likes), and incomparable to those)

you're absolutely right, but it's just sucky that something that used to be fun isn't fun anymore, that's all

the ethics of making compulsive spending a "fun" activity is probably worth debating at one point so i'd say maybe not tricking people into spending money on dumb sort-of-oexploitative "games" is probably a good idea but also knowing valve it just feels like they're half assing the sale like they often tend to do

I think it might just be a beta client issue.

Removed myself from the beta and haven't had the issue occur yet.

I just need my large download to finish today before I leave work :(

edit: Well I take that back, still happening. Guess I'll just keep a watch out for the yellow download bar and tell it to keep downloading whenever it tries to stop.

Damn, this is exactly what I was worrying about

Don't get me wrong, though. The game does have very good, creative combat... But imagine playing Civ for 1000 hours, playing a game you're in complete control of, but having to watch every single enemy animation, in slowmo, for at least a minute per turn (when there's multiple enemies).

Just wanna throw Quick Combat on, y'know?

Sayonara UmiharaKawase.

I would recommend playing 6 before Felghana and Origin. It was the first game released in that engine and is the least refined. Playing 6 after the others will make it seem underwhelming.

I'd argue his list is just backwards in general.

I'd never recommend 1 and 2 to newcomers. They are a curiosity for big fans.

Oath is the one I recommend to newcomers generally. Yeah, it might be harder to go back to 6, but if you don't like 6 you're probably not moving on to Oath anyway.

It's like the Shadowrun series currently. Go straight to Dragonfall. Play Returns only if you really like it and want more.

There's nothing like this build into the Enhanced Edition? I couldn't imagine playing CIV without it after some time.
