I sort of think that Han really tried to show fatherly love for his son for the last second of his life, so that Kylo Ren couldn't completely detach himself. He was short of shaken that Han didn't react with hatred towards him.I wonder what the last lesson gonna be from Snoke. He will find himself to the good side somehow he looks dorky and cute for a dark lord, people in the theater snickered when he revealed his face.

Ren did something Luke nor Vader could do. Sever their ties to their emotion. Ren almost assuredly is fully darkside now. It'll be interesting to see if in Episode 8 we get some training scenes with him and Snoke.

Don't read anything into Rey's vision. It is just shit JJ threw against a wall for Rian to have to pick up later and use as he sees fit. Her character was left obscure because they probably had no clue where it was going.

The novel doesn't say she's his cousin.

And they aren't revealing who her family is for whatever reason. Could well be to reveal Kylo killed her parents and use that to tip her over to the dark side, who knows. There is really nothing that indicates she's a skywalker. Could be, could not be too. Really doubt they'll go for the "I'm your father" thing again.
I mean, really? It was painfully obvious throughout the whole movie and essentially confirmed when Maz told her to not go backwards (Jakku) to find her family but rather forward (to find Luke).

Pretty sure they were corroborating with each other.

I mean he did kill his father in cold blood for sure, but Han didn't give him his expected response. Some regrets may have lingered in him, so Snoke might have to still push and guide him a little bit .

Maz basically told her her family is dead and/or to forget about them. That's likely the truth, Luke might be all she has left as a connection to them, but not be her father.

She is definitely going to be tempted to join the dark side over something relating to her family, which she has a strong attachment to. Be it by telling her who killed them, or that they wanted to kill her or get rid of her, etc., who knows. The fact her vision shows someone apparently about to kill her who is then killed by Kylo raises a lot of questions in that regard, whoever she was with before that moment didn't want her to live, yet Kylo saved her life. If she finds out about this it might be a big deal.

I hope Rey isn't just Luke's daughter. That would be dissapointing.

How is it disappointing? Subverting expectations sometimes isn't just something to do.

If she's not luke's daugher they've got a lot of things to explain (if she is they just need to explain why she was left and who the mother is, which is a lot easier than why a random person is so good with the force or why parents forgot their kids). I don't know why it'd be bad to have the new trilogy focus on the next in line. The star wars films are always about the skywalkers as the main protagonists.

The hope that it doesn't seems to boil down to "its too obvious!" which is a horrible reason to be against something IMO. The only other argument I've seen is that this series is too focused on the main families. Which is silly because there have been other non-related characters. Obi-won, calrissian, Finn, Poe, the many aliens, mace windu, yoda, etc.

Anakin is the chosen one. He is the one that was to bring balance to the force. I don't think its weird for it to be through his kids.

THE FORCE AWAKENS

Luke Skywalker has vanished. In his absence, the sinister FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes of the Empire and will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed.

With the support of the REPUBLIC, General Leia Organa leads a brave RESISTANCE. She is desperate to find her brother Luke and gain his help in restoring peace and justice to the galaxy.

Leia has sent her most daring pilot on a secret mission to Jakku, where an old ally has discovered a clue to Luke’s whereabouts…""

I think you're thinking the story group is playing faster and looser with this stuff than they are. This is the background and personal history of the current lead character of this franchise. The last thing they're going to have anyone doing is "throwing shit at a wall" for the next person to clean up.

Lor San Tekka. New character.

I like Lost and know JJ only wrote a couple episodes, I just wanted to make a joke. :(

I'm still thinking that some people never understand the purpose of lost: "let it go". It's not about island mysteries (and we have almost all the answers).
I think we should do the same for star wars.
I don't want to focus on Rey's family but what her destiny is.

"
an old ally...that guy from the beginning...who is it?

Lor San Tekka, an explorer and member of the Church of the Force, an organization of non-Force sensitives who worshipped the Jedi and believed they would return one day which had been driven underground during the Imperial period. He apparently helped Luke recover a lot of Jedi lore and artifacts following Endor. His story is untold so far but I assume he'll be all over the upcoming books and comics.

Wonder if he had anything to do with Luke discovering the location of the remnants of the Force-sensitive tree in Shattered Empire.

The opening crawl gives all you need to know about him. But in the Visual Dictionary. His name is Lor San Tekka.

He's pretty much just a guy that's a member of the church of the force. He's been around since the OT and his order believes the light of the Jedi will one day dominate the galaxy again.

Maz didn't say her family is dead. She says this

"You already know the truth … Whoever you were waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But there's someone who still can: Luke"
I take it as she's never getting her family in a metaphorical sense, the white pickett fence life is never returning but luke as a jedi master, who can train you can enter your life just don't expect it to be the same as a normal father-daugher relation.

It confirms her family is never coming back. Luke can come back into her life, but her family is gone. Orphan.

Pretty sure they were corroborating with each other.

That doesn't sound like something JJ would--

Nevermind...

Exactly.

The Luke/R2 shot is there only to show he loaded part of the map into R2. The rest is a mish mash of shots of her being taken away from her parents and general force ghost talk type nonsense that doesn't need any kind of direct connection and can be used or jettisoned as such.

That scene is in there simply to illustrate she is an actual Jedi to be, and powerful with the force.

The movie also seemed to imply that he's from Alderaan because when Poe calls her general he says "to me, she's royalty".

Yup that flashback was intentional and we'll definitely see more about it.

There is not a single indication Luke gave R2 the map, in fact JJ and Kasdan said he pretty much didn't.

That would make sense. Luke leaves her behind in the trusting oversight of a member of the church and goes into exile.

Not trusting at all, he tries to club her. Kylo saves her.

The empire still exists? The first order is a splinter faction?

The empire fell at the battle of jakku (the star destroyer rey lives in). The first order is splinter org. The empire signed a treaty with the new republic. The first order is against that and wants to end the jedi. I think the origin of snoke will reveal a lot about why.

I wonder if the guy with the stick in Rey's vision isn't a member of this "church".

Never coming back doesn't mean dead. It means they're not going to "rescue".

That line is clearly intentionally vague. And its not like people didn't lie or mislead luke about his heritage before vader revealed it. Didn't ben kenobi pretty much say his father died?

Again, JJ had barely to pretty much no contribution to Lost apart from the main idea. To drive the point further, dude you quoted was just kidding.
Jar Jar avatars. Or should that be for the winners? :D
Losers have to use FinnxPoe ship avatars
