Well, it's also the first time she comes into contact with an object so strongly associated with the Force. Anything is possible and they deliberately did this so we can speculate this very thing.

Touche but Maz basically said it's calling to you and it's yours now. I dunno. Who knows. This is fucking fun.

What was wrong with it? Or is it sarcasm, sorry its early and i may need coffee

It conveyed exactly what it needed to. The blows felt like they had weight. There was a tension to it.

It wasn't a 40minute speedrun with flips and spinning through a lavaworld but it really didn't need to be. ANH has lows but I'm bemused to see the Guiness fight cited as one.

Guiness was clearly bored to tears and you can see how he doesn't even try to clash the sabers. Then the weird cut to when he Force-dissappears happens, though that may probably be special effects limitations or something, but all that scene is weird and strangely filmed. I think I read Guinness begged Lucas to cut his character off the future franchise so they filmed that badly edited and choreographed scene.

Even did the courtesy of cutting out the whole killing kids part for her

Just in case people forgot.

You are optimistic. I don't think we'll get a teaser until Rogue One. So December 2016.

Edit: I don't know why I care. I'm trying to follow the "unsullied" approach. No trailers or spoilers for me.

First teaser is gonna be craaaaaaaaaazy.

We have to be getting that in, what, May?

Holy shit it'll be May before we know it and then we'll only be a year away.

I wanna see a teaser but no full trailer. Though fuck it maybe I do now that I'm fully on board I dunno comflicted

Hardly as the first 7 teaser was a year from release.

Do you happen to know how long after they finished principal photography for 7, we got the teaser? They are starting filming for 8 late in January, right? So, almost February. May sounds a little early for a teaser. What comes out around July?

Edit: July 22nd looks to be the new Star Trek. That's my bet.

Nah, Rogue One'll have the actual trailer attached to it. We're almost certainly getting a teaser with voice over for Star Wars Day.

Exactly!

I keep saying it, but they did such a good job not ruining surprises with the marketing for TFA, I'm looking forward to any trailers, myself.

The tool does not commit a crime.
Individual uses tool for wrong or harmful ways.
It's all about intention.

Edit: obviously observers are allowed to have feelings attached to said tool and feel grief and disgust. But in a Jedi world with weird Jedi ways and Jedi training... That doesn't seem to be way they act. Unless it's a blaster.

The first teaser barely had footage so they won't be short of material by then. However I think your Star Trek guess could also play out. I'm still betting on May.

I'm gonna be mad as hell when they go ahead and kill of Luke. I'm gonna be even more pissed if he doesn't even light his own saber.

That being said, saw Episode 7 for the 3rd time yesterday. Sooooo good!

Ben Solo stabs Han.
Guy behind me actually screamed : "O NO YOU DIDNT! YOU SON OF A BITCH!"

Alec Guiness lol, his "fight" in Ep IV is one of the low points of the series. A series that features Jar Jar and dialog from the mind of a 12 year old girl.
What...

No

I appreciate this duel a lot more than I used to, after watching two old hachidan sensei duel at kendo, anyway. :P

Calm down, no one is questioning your intergalactic second amendment right to bear fiction arms.

Oh man I was not expecting that response, that was great made me split a gut, hahaha. Kind of scary though because people do fight over that kind of stuff :(

I just came back from watching the movie and thought it was a good movie, much better than the prequel trilogy, not as good as the original trilogy.

Some positives:

  • Great acting & characters - I loved the new characters of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren and the actors who protrayed those characters.
  • The first half of the movie was great with the character introductions and trying to escape the clutches to the First Order.
Some negatives:

  • After the RTOJ the empire was destroyed and the republic re-established - how does the First Order become so powerful and why are the 'resistance' the resistance? A little historical and political background would have been helpful.
  • Han solo - Ford is now quite old and the scoundrel smuggling character just doesn't jive with his age. Also the scene aboard the freighter when Han and Chewie recapture the Falcon was just unnecessary. I just kept wanting to fast-forward.
  • Character names - The OT gave us Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbaca and Leila. this movie has the worse character names i have come across. I couldn't even remember the names correctly at the end of the movie. Poe, Rya, Finn, Kylo Ren, Snoke...etc. These are terrible names. Kylo Ren and Snoke aren't even intimidating names.
  • Snoke CGI - this really bothered me. With all the talk of limiting the use of CGI why did they then use CGI for snoke? He looked like a mix of Voldermort and a zombie. What is wrong with just getting an actor and using old school make-up?
  • Rey abilities - Kylo ren is shown to have some advanced force powers, e.g. stopping a blaster shot in midair, but yet is quite easily defeated by Rey.
  • Story - the story was just odd. The objective was to find Luke Skywalker and about half-way through the movie it deviates to destroying a new death star and ends with finding luke and that's it.
  • Death Star again?! - seriously how many times are they going to build a death star that just a handful of x-wings can destroy?

Overall, it was a fine movie, but it just felt like a prologue to episode 8. It will be interesting to see if this movie stands the test of time and i sense its long term popularity will be heavily tied to how well received episode 8 is.

True, but on the other hand the lightsaber is an artifact that seems to have some connection to the force, based on the way it triggered Rey's vision. It's not the biggest stretch to imagine that mass murder would leave some sort of an imprint on it that's perceptible to force sensitive people.

Here's my prediction: Next one starts with a flashback to Kylo Ren when he was training under Luke. Get a Han Solo/Leia cameo in there also.

Flashback formatted scenes haven't been a mainline Star Wars movie. Maybe in the upcoming non-numbered titles, but they haven't had them in the numbered movies. Right...? (Funny I doubt my knowledge when talking to other fans.) That's the kind of thing I've been wondering about since Disney bought it. Would they add stuff like this with these movies?

Like the dark side taint....?

No. Not that kind of taint.

The whole teaser was amazing because all that time you think it's Han and Chewie flying and then landing on say Tattooine or something and saying we're home. Great edit pumps you up, then in the movie it's Rey flying the fucking thing and the we're home is Han amd Chewie being reunited with the Falcon.

In the movie in the junkyard when they first got in I was like holy shit the Falcon because I hadn't expected there because I thought Han had it.

Am I wrong for wishing they never found Luke so we could spend more time Rey, Finn, and Poe?

I grew up with the Star Wars movies but I am actually more excited to see more of the new characters than Luke. Sounds crazy, I know.

Hopefully he dies quick! (joking, Luke is going to tear some shit up)

Do you feel like Han took away from the time and presence of the cast of TFA?

I don't think Luke will take all of the episode up.

Sometimes I forget that Anakin straight up stabbed thirty kids to death.

I kinda want them to retcon it so he kidnapped them and raised them as his own private Sith army.

But that ain't happening.

It's an old EU concept, but the lightsaber crystals do have a presence in the force. If that sticks in these new films, then that's probably the ecplanation.

well this is a first for me

Putting in that work.

I really haven't had this much fun with speculation in probably ten years.

Han's death was interesting because I sat there and I knew exactly what was going to happen. Like I mean everything ftom the impaling to Han falling off the bridge just so you know he's dead (I actually kept thinking will they show him plunge because if they dont he might be back but if they do... and yep there he goes)

Then it happened and I still screamed omg like it was a surprise and I still bawled my eyes out.

The prequels might be canon but I doubt the new films will ever refer to them in more detail than the backstory given in the OT. You'll get occasional vague references but there are some events that are best ignored.

My first thought as soon as I saw the planet!

The amount of parallels to the original trilogy were insane

Felt like a copy and paste job with new characters at times.

Still loved it mind

Just saw the movie again for the second time. Goddamn Poe is one badass motherfucker.
Speaking of Poe, I'm not getting the supposed gay undertone that some people are seeing, and my gaydar is generally on point. I've heard others say the way he bites his lip after telling Finn that his jacket suits him is a clear sign of attraction, but I watched carefully the next time I saw TFA and didn't see the implication, and the expression doesn't seem to connect to the line in any case. There's a pause after the jacket thing, then he makes the face without even looking at Finn, and it's more like he's just transitioning to the next topic.

I don't know, whatever. If I'm missing something, that's cool too.

Lewd.

Hmm, sounds plausible.

I loved this movie btw!!

My two major gripes

1- on first viewing I found the soundtrack weak. Lots of old themes. New themes took longer to set in my mind. Was worried that the great John Williams was loosing his touch. But it grew on me.

2. Does the First Order base Kill it's sun? Does it then travel to new systems? Did that one sun give it 2 volleys? Does it simply drain the sun then it reignited over time? Ambiguous. A solid answer would be nice.

Anyways I Loved it otherwise. So lovely to have small gripes than major ones like the PT.

I assume so, based on the name Starkiller Base. I like how it turned into a star after it exploded. A fitting end after it cruised around eating stars like a jerk.
