Craziest steam issue ever. I'm pretty sure nothing will happen with this because everyone loves Steam and all, but think about this coming from XBL or PSN.

In the other hand, if personal data is being compromised or stealed this is gonna be huge.

Add the Steam thing today to that list. :V

I've been working on upscaling the original SNES sprites in Final Fantasy VI so that they can be modded into the game if people prefer them. Now that the bilinear filter has been patched out, I'm finding myself liking the new sprites more than I thought I would.

Nxyo's on a roll though - he's been able to successfully perform a sprite replacement that's recognized in-game.

i hope someone creates a mod for the ff7 remake to play with the old models

For me it changes things quite a bit. I don't use steam much this days but I'm almost sure I will not be buying anything there again. Is not the first time they have security issues. It sucks and it is what it is but is going to be hard for valve to win me again as a customer after this.

If this would've happend to the company i work for, i could already search for a new job because it would be closed so hard.

Wait, so what about just verifying game caches? I got a new hard drive today, and moved everything this morning...so i've just periodically verifying caches.

Im just glad I decided to stop saving info to any online site after that PSN debacle.

Steamdb: Do NOT attempt to unlink PayPal, remove your credit card details or anything else. Doing so will put you at risk instead.

Dang, this is a bit unsettling. Checked my email associated with my account and got 5 personal emails from users saying they've seen my info and to not be alarmed, and 2 more from Steam Support about Steam Account Recovery.

Those aren't on store's server, neither is community nor support sites.

Good. Hope fully no one messes with my cart.

Wait so dont not do anything?

EDIT: On a serious note, I havent received any emails...or recovery notices. My accounts been showing as offline for the last few. Hopefully no major damage comes from this.

Uhhhh....I'm just now getting back to Steam after being with my family all morning, and it all of a sudden I refresh the front page and it is in Spanish, I try to change the language back to English and it tells me in Spanish that it couldn't apply my language settings (thankfully it changed to a language I understand!); the store doesn't seem to know what games I already own...and I look online, and apparently everyone is accessing everyone else's data? Steam sales have always had some crazy technical issues, but this takes the cake!

Thankfully, I removed my credit card from Steam ages ago. Any other personal data that's at risk?

I hope you didn't upload this, it's been advised to not touch Steam URLs at all.

Cross-posting from other thread for posterity.

What we know so far

  • Most likely an error in the way Steam caches pages.
  • People are able to access random Steam profiles and see compromising information, account names, emails, last 2 digits of credit card, paypal email address, purchases, etc.
  • No changes can be made to the effected account, no purchases can be made. Any evidence to the contrary is, as of yet, unsubstantiated.
  • It's been advised to not access Steam URLs, including the client, until we have more information.
  • Do not post account names you see, huge security risk.
  • Do not log into Steam to unlink your Paypal. If you feel the need, can be done from the actual Paypal website.
  • Reminder: Steamdb is not affiliated with Valve in any way.

I'll update this post with more information going forward.

I assume if anybody buy anything with your wallet/stored info those will be added to your library and could be refunded but I'm not sure about gifts. Can gifts be refunded?

it's pretty embarrassing that with no metagame, no dailies, no anything they still get server overloads and now security issues

even when reduced to doing just one thing they fuck it up

What's better than flash deals? Flash accounts, get a new one each time you reload the page.
