Steam Holiday Seal 2015 |OT| This isn't the account you're looking for

There was a webserver misconfiguration that caused pages that shouldn't be cached – like people's account pages – to be cached by whatever CDN Valve used and then served to random people. Letting those people see other people's account pages and such.

Or at least that's the educated guess without official word from Valve.

OOPS.

And double-oops at me not checking this thread before I reloaded the sale page on the client to "log-in" (which I thought was weird but thought it was just the client failing to cache. Seems like that's half-true) to get my cards and selling them.

What's funny is that minutes after I put the cards up, they sold. Hmmm...

That said, anything on my account hasn't been changed or touched as far as I can see from e-mail logs or anything there. So I'm not worried about damage yet. But I'm still angry about this fuck up if anything down the road happens with my account being changed and it isn't me. :|

£4.99 in my wallet. Looking for something short, 2D, and focused 100% on gameplay. I have all the usual suspects (SMB/Spelunky/ShovelKnight/Rogue Legacy/Volgarr etc), and I'm not interested in Ys...

Wow i was gonna buy stuff today and then THAT happened, i might just bail from buying stuff until we get confirmation everything is safe.

140 is silly cheap, about 4-6 hours depending on how quickly you're able to tackle some of the puzzles and the bonus stages, and is the only living Autechre music video around.

EDIT: Ooh, I'll second the Gunpoint recommendation. Stellar, witty, perhaps a bit too short for its own good, but an excellently polished package.

Gunpoint?

Thanks, but I have it from a bundle.

Ahh, I remember this from... E3? One of the sizzle reels (Devolver's, apparently). Yup, I'm buying this - Thanks!

I'll check it out. Maybe I can sell a Dota 2 item to buy this and Not A Hero together.

I wouldn't go around buying stuff just yet but Downwell is pretty darn good.

And this... Damn. Looks spot on.

Posting a damage list of games you bought is considered really poor form.

But is it considered ok to post a list of games somebody else bought using your account?

I was visiting my mothers place where my old PS1 and PS2 still are and played some THUG and Timesplitters 2. THUG was still gold gameplaywise but I didn't remember all the crap the singleplayer had: car racing and sneaking missions? What the christ. Timesplitters 2 was just great.

Oldest save on the first memory card was this:

Backup of 100% save of GT2

I remember the day I played Silent Hill 2 on PS2 last time like it was yesterday, turned out it was 2003 (I do own it on PC though)

When I was uploading that image they failed and turned into red squares, spooky

Newest save was DMC3 from 2008, exactly two days before I got PS3.

Have you looked at Retro City Rampage DX yet? I'm playing it now and I'm loving it. It's like 80's gta, with a lot of references to classic games and movies (BTTF, paperboy, punch-out). I think the main story can be beaten in a few hours.

May I suggest Offspring Fling? Or Super Puzzle Platformer Deluxe. Both are cheap and excellent. Also short and to the point. Good graphics and great music.

Both together also land exactly on your budget.

Has Valve said something official regarding the account issues? I see that the store page is back, but I'm still to afraid to do anything (buy games, sell cards) with my account until I'm sure the problem is 100% fixed.

My dog communicates better than Valve inc. ever will.

Valve will not comment about the issue until they are certain it's fixed and/or contained. It would be foolish for them to air a security vulnerability that may still be exploitable.

Those of you who are clamoring for Valve to make a statement about this: Trust me, you DON'T want them to until they've fixed the problem. For now, the less attention this gets the better.

So ignoring that my account might have been compromised earlier (?) what is going on with the gift copies of games I sent as gifts showing up in my inventory? Are they doing a gift 1 get 1 free on all purchases now? Did my gift not get sent and I should resend those copies? The person I gifted is across the globe so I won't find out if they got my gift for another 12 hours.

True .

Yes i get that people are freaking the hell out ( for perfectly good reasons ) and they want Valve to give them some reasurance that they are working on it .

However , keeping it low profile until they know they got this fixed and double checked to make sure it is still preferable to them running instantly to Twitter to shout over the rooftops : HEY GUYS ? THERE IS A GIANT ISSUE RIGHT NOW WITH EVERYONE BEING ABLE TO LOOK AT EVERYONE'S ACCOUNT AND PRIVATE INFORMATION . WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO IT !
PLEASE DON'T BE A DICK AND ABUSE THIS OK.

Gifts stay in your inventory until claimed by the person you sent them to.

It's cool to learn about everything steam related even serious security issues on steamdb.

Valve can chill as usual and be like

I don't trust this. I've been logged off automatically and whenever I try to log in by entering my Steam Guard App code, it sends me back to the home screen without actually logging in. FFS Valve.

Ok guys, make me buy some games. I'm taking the week off and want to play a bunch of the sub-10 hour games that I shouldn't miss for goty.

I already have:
Undertale
Her Story
Contradiction
Not a Hero

What am I missing? You can leave out VNs, they're not really my thing. Same for straight puzzle games like snakebird.

I just unauthorized steam from my paypal account. That should be fine, right??

Yes, and from now on use pre-paid Steam wallet codes like people should be doing on all gaming services that allow it (reason why I haven't purchased much on GoG or Humble Bundle) for better security. Someone gets into your account? Well they can enjoy the $0.01-20 on your account's wallet that hasn't been used and that's it.

Face It - A game to fight inner demons

Price (USD): $0.49 ($0.79 for a pack with it and the game Soul Gambler)
THE GAME: FACE IT is a game about facing the most challenging feelings of the human experience. It uses a dark atmosphere combining classic platform mechanics with survival dynamics to bring the feeling of wandering in the deepest and darkest places of the mind and soul.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Little atmospheric puzzle-platformer that is incredibly cheap.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: In Early Access, better than some similar games of the same price but you get what you pay for.
SCREENS:

Invasion: Brain Craving

Price (USD): $0.49
THE GAME: It's the zombie-slaying survival game with JRPG elements you didn't know you wanted! Get swarmed by zombies in active-time battles, search for other survivors, eat and most importantly: SURVIVE!
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Lots of potential, super cheap zombie JRPG with random world generation, scavenging, survival, and the like.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: In Early Access, currently what's there shows a lot of promise but still has a lot of work to go.

They Breathe

Price (USD): $0.59
THE GAME: They Breathe is a short journey into the depths of a forest filled with water. As you swim deeper, it's up to you to figure out the rules of an insidious ecosystem where nothing is as it first seems, and where everyone is after the same precious resource – oxygen!
WHY SHOULD I CARE: It's a slow-burn atmospheric survival game for oxygen that's relatively challenging.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's short, a 30-50 minute game, a bit artsy.

Depths of Fear :: Knossos

Price (USD): $0.59
THE GAME: Depths of Fear :: Knossos, a Greek-themed, 1st Person, Roguelike stealthy action-adventure where you play as Theseus out to kill the rampaging horror the Minotaur. Succeed in the beast’s slaughter or learn the meaning of fear trying. You will run. You will hide. You will fight. You will die.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Generated labyrinth full of monstrosities where you must survive, rogue-like with perma-death, horror with some tension. PC Gamer also claims it's in their top 25 horror games of all time.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: There's virtually no story, the AI of enemies is rather simplistic, and gameplay is basically get the McGuffin.

Dreaming Sarah

Price (USD): $0.59
THE GAME: Inspired by the horror game Yume Nikki, Dreaming Sarah is a surreal adventure platformer game with puzzle elements, an engaging environment, an incredibly diverse cast of characters, and of course, a young girl named Sarah. Sarah has been on an accident and is in a coma. It's up to you help her wake up by exploring her dream world while collecting items, talking to weird characters and exploring the world around her!
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Surreal sidescrolling exploration game set in an abstract dream world that captures a sense of wonder and mystery, much like the game it's inspired by Yume Nikki. It's an interesting, cryptic world with deeper meanings and things to uncover.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: There's very little clues to what to do as to progress, and due to the nature of the game you can find periods of being lost without a clue.

THE GAME: Reveal The Deep is a short exploration game set in the wreck of a 19th century steamship. Navigate through expansive levels, uncovering the stories of the ship's demise and it's passengers. Keep your nerve, your wits about you, and prepare to reveal the secrets of the deep.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Atmosphereic sidescrolling game with a few puzzles and unnerving aspects of the deep capture. Effective at what it does.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's a bit simple and not entirely too long.

Trouble In The Manor

Price (USD): $0.74
THE GAME: Trouble In The Manor is an online multiplayer game which takes place in a spooky far away manor. You are designated one of three roles upon each round: innocent, bloodhound, or murderer.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: It's fun! It's a multiplayer game with a lot of things to fiddle around with that has everyone suspicious of the other and using tools to kill/survive. Mansion is full of oddities and traps, and due to the cheap price won't be hard to get a few copies for you and friends.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: While the map is full of flavor that can change rounds drastically, it's only one map really, more good for a couple hours of fun than extended periods of time. Is online only.

Uninvited: MacVenture Series

Price (USD): $0.74
THE GAME: As you and your brother are driving in the dead of night, you swerve to avoid a mysterious object. Then the world goes black. When you come to, your car is wrapped around a tree, a storm is brewing and your brother has vanished. You leave the car, drawn to a Gothic mansion, believing the Victorian manor holds the key to your brother’s fate. You enter the mansion, finding yourself within a labyrinth filled with ghosts and demons. Each step brings you further into the unknown. Move quickly, since each second that passes threatens your sanity. The original Macintosh AND Apple IIgs versions are here and welcome you, once again, into the haunted mansion! Come see where the world of first-person adventures started and experience the classic horror game as it appeared in 1986.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: One of the good oldies of the horror genre all the way back from the 1980s. A cult classic point'n'click horror with some twisted imagery, mind-bending puzzles, and actually kind of creepy and sometimes surprisingly horrific. It includes both versions of the game that released, the color and colorless version.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's not for everyone being a retro point'n'click, some of the old-school game conventions may turn some off.

The Moon Sliver

Price (USD): $0.79
THE GAME: You are on a bleak, cold, windy island. And you seem to be alone... but fires and candles still burn. As you explore, a story of guilt, loneliness, and faith begins to take shape. And it becomes increasingly obvious that something is hunting you...
WHY SHOULD I CARE: It's a walking simulator, but an interesting one. It has a few puzzles and some good atmosphere, and the writing and story is interesting, starring a group of characters on an island alone who slowly begin to either be hunted or maybe are going mad? It's a nice little experience.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's short, a Walking Simulator so required taste, some of the puzzles are tricky, and the playing field is kind of small. The creator went on to make other Walking Simulators that might be better, though a bit more pricey.

White Noise Online

Price (USD): $0.89
THE GAME: On White Noise Online, a team of up to 4 investigators has to explore an area looking for clues, while avoiding being devoured by a supernatural creature. Will you be able to uncover the truth behind the mysterious events? The game takes the idea of simple, accessible horror behind Slender and evolves it further to adapt it to a cooperative environment.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: This is actually one of my favorite Slender-type games. It has six different levels that are quite different both in layout and theme, from a snowy forest to a art museum to Area 51. The co-op is actually fun as the 2-4 of you try to collect cassettes, which make a noise to help locate. Each character has a Scooby-Doo aesthetic and different stats. When you die, turn into a ghost and can help your friends out either to keep them calm by sticking close or going out to scout for cassettes (ghost see the levels brightly and can move faster). At the end see a map showing what all went down. Unlockables and difficulties to give a goal to accomplish. Can actually startle and unnerve sometimes.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's a Slender game, those are a dime a dozen and not for everyone. This one is somewhat co-op focused, it can be played single player but it's a lot harder. May need friends to play with.

Curse: The Eye of Isis

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: Strange things are happening at Great Britain’s museum of natural history in 1890. A gang of ruthless thugs has broken into the establishment, the Eye of Isis Egyptian statue has been stolen, and a mysterious fog has overtaken a number of areas of the museum killing and transforming all it comes into contact with. In this survival horror game you will be playing as museum curator/archeologist Victoria Sutton and her childhood friend Darien Dane, you’ll have to fight the various beings and entities created by this fog. You'll spend considerable time in the museum, take a steam train to the coast and travel the seas in a huge cargo ship before finally entering the pyramid tomb where you must find and destroy the source of this ancient evil.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: This was a PS2 survival-horror game of the B-Resident Evil Clone variety. It's a pretty decent one though, some good atmosphere, sound design, lasting about 10 hours, puzzles, fun inventory management and save system. If you want more old-school styled, fixed camera angle horror in your life, or just want to try a game of the sort, this one is not a bad bet, and has the Egyptian/Museum theme down.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: Controls are a bit clunky and it is old-school, so not for everyone. It's pretty good, but not one of the best older survival-horror games either.

Clandestinity of Elsie

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: Clandestinity of Elsie is a Survival/Psychological-Horror game based in the post-WW2 New York State cities of Albany and Troy. You play as Hayden Warrick, a mentally damaged alcoholic and war veteran. Haunted by his past, he must unravel the mystery of his wife Elsie's sudden disappearance. You must scavenge, kill, and survive long enough to find her. Mostly taking place in vast darkness, you must continue your objective of finding Hayden's wife Elsie while ensuring his own all-important survival.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: It has some good atmosphere and actually a pretty decent story. Bit challenging, and has some expansive but well-designed maps, well-written, and good sound design.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: Combat is a bit tricky due to some clunky shooting, maybe too few healing items, some of which can make it sometimes frustrating. Enemies are a bit fast which can lead to getting cornered easily.

Decay: The Mare

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: Sam is an addict who ends up in an institution named “Reaching Dreams”, hoping to kick his drug problem and sort out his miserable life. But during the first night, something goes horribly wrong and he gets stuck in an endless nightmare… For the first time the compelling, high-tension Adventure is available in one package, including an exclusive third chapter that will bring Sam’s journey to an end.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: This was a series of horror point'n'clicks on XBLA in the past, this is them all in one package along with a new chapter. The game ranges from being fairly easy to figure out to a bit obtuse, but it has a few fun puzzles, simple but nice environments, atmosphere, a few jump scares, and a story that comes together, as well as a few points the game really comes together as a whole.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: A bit short as is, some of the jump scares feel forced and fall flat, and the graphics aren't really up there. Relatively easy on the point'n'click spectrum (which may be a pro or a con, depending on who you are).

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: It is a misty evening in the year of our lord 1912. The Pattersons, a poor but proud aristocratic family of the British nobility, and some of their closest friends, arrive at the castle Malachi residence of a wealthy Romanian Count. It is only three days until the family's eldest daughter, Rebecca, is to be wed to the count's son, uniting the family with the rich heritage of the Malachi, hopefully restoring its glory. The only person missing is you, the brother of the bride, who is on your way from Stockholm, where you have defended the Union Jack in the noble art of fencing in the Olympics. You are to arrive later during the evening. Sir Patterson is disappointed when the Count himself doesn't greet the family at their arrival, but still he lets the servants show them all to their rooms, without complaining too loudly. It is not until later--when the doors are slammed shut and locked behind them, that he realizes his mistake that they have become prisoners and are at the Count's mercy...
WHY SHOULD I CARE: A classic horror rogue-like. It has some great atmosphere, and some bugs that are more amusing than anything. Randomly generated vampire towns have you hunting the famous creepy classic blood sucker, Nosferatu. Actually creepy, can be quite chilling sometimes, but other times can end up being a bit hilarious. It's good fun, though.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: Older PC port, a bit rough around the edges, some bugs.

A Wolf in Autumn

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: After escaping from a locked shed, a young girl finds herself in the middle of an idyllic autumn forest. At first her surroundings seem peaceful, and she's comforted by her mother's voice coming through a strange tin device. But gradually, things begin to turn disturbing and sinister. And the distant howling of wolves begins to move closer... A Wolf in Autumn is a dark, surreal psychological horror game, from the developer of Fingerbones,The Moon Sliver, and The Music Machine. It focuses on creating a short engaging horror experience that relies on narrative, pacing, context, and atmosphere rather than jump scares.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Quite a nice little experience, good story, atmosphere, a solid walking experience that can capture the mind, a few puzzles, but not much in terms of gameplay. Relaxing yet dark and intriguing.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: It's a walking simulator, not for everyone. Puzzles can be a bit tricky. More an experience narrative type than a full-on game. Colors might throw some off or be hard on the eyes for some.

BAD END

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: It's rumored that those who play 'BAD END'- a CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) visual novel will die in REAL LIFE if they make the wrong decision in the game itself.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: It's actually a pretty good J-Horror story with some nice twist, turns, and all the fun that comes from a visual novel with many different dead and bad endings. Some nice artwork for deaths, and some fun J-Horror Trope playing. Fairly good story, if a bit cliche, and a fun meta-game with a game inside a game.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: Well, it's a visual novel, which isn't for everyone. And some of the choices are kind of random, like which direction you choose to run which feel more luck than anything. Can be repetitive to get past bits where you got a bad end.

Kairo

Price (USD): $0.99
THE GAME: Enter the lost world of Kairo. Explore vast abandoned monuments. Bring strange and ancient machinery back to life. Slowly uncover the true purpose of Kairo and fulfil a great destiny. Kairo is an atmospheric 3D exploration and puzzle solving game.
WHY SHOULD I CARE: Has a nice feeling of a surreal and isolated desert full of strange, foreign mechanisms and puzzles. Sort of equal parts exploration and puzzle solving, with some good use of colors and some fun, sometimes tricky, puzzles. Actually has a pretty good story that slowly bubbles up.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?: Some of the puzzles are extremely obtuse, the game is slow in almost every regard, something of a walking simulator with puzzles.
