So... Tell Me About Xbox One.

So, I somehow ended up with an Xbox One today (Thanks Santa). So far I have Gears of War. I have a few questions for Xbox-GAF:

1: Is MCC still shit, or has it been fixed?
2: Halo 5 any good?
3: What good game deals are there right now that I shouldn't pass up?
4: Anywhere I can get a Live sub for cheap?

MCC is wonky but fine, in terms of multi. In terms of single player/campaign it was always good.

Halo 5 is great, people will try to tell you otherwise, they're wrong.

There's an XBL sale going on right now as well as just checking out cheapassgamer I'd recommend there. You should get Tomb Raider 100%
 
Yo before these insane molasses swimming people come in and tell you that 343 is "destroying" bungies legacy, halo 5 is the best halo game out there.

Also get sunset overdrive

1. Depends, the campaigns and Spartan Ops work great now, but multiplayer, while better than it once was, the population isnt as strong so it takes longer to find games.

2. Campaign is an area of a lot of debate, genuinely the concensous is that actually playing SP is fun, and the shooting is great, but the story is weaker than past titles and there are not as many grand vehicle sections as prior titles. I personally liked the campaign a lot. Multiplayer is agreed on to be great, maybe the best halo MP since 2.

1) Campaigns are great. Always have been. Worth the price for those alone. As for multiplayer... eh. I'm not sure they fixed everything, though even if they did the population is a bit low. As an Australian I couldn't find matches outside of a single playlist a few months ago. I'd expect it to be much worse now.

2) As for Halo 5... yes and no. Gameplay and stuff is awesome. Personally I'm not a fan of where they're taking the story and campaign but overall it's a step up from Halo 4 and Reach in almost every single way.

IMO if you are coming from previous Halo games, Halo 5 isnt great. And how can peoples opinion about a game be wrong?

MCC yeah, it works now. But the support for the game is probably dead now. And there can still be some bugs etc. But for the most part it works now.
 
Buy Sunset Overdrive
Season 1 Ultra Edition of Killer Instinct will be free next month, so you can hold off on buying the S1 pack at least.
 
If you plan on buying stuff from the countdown sale I would grab Ori and Tomb Raider before they end early next week. Titanfall is not a bad deal either.

MCC is fixed except for the part where Reach wasn't remastered. Halo 5 is great fun. Best gameplay of the series, but the story is.. weak. Still worth a shot on your shelf though if not for the good amount of content in place and incoming. Ori is an absolute must buy, and if there is one for the new Tomb Raisers, I highly suggest them. EA Access is also surprisingly great. Live I can't help you with, I'm looking too.

@OP:

1: it's more than fine now even if it's isn't perfect.
2: worst Halo game for me but great multiplayer if you love Halo Style MP
3: Sunset Overdrive is pretty cheap everywhere and it's a really good game.
4: Depends.
 
Don't buy Titanfall just get EA access instead.

Goes on sale for $25 all the time and you get so many games/10 hr trials it's definitely worth it.
 
I'm in the same boat (though I'm getting the console tomorrow). Probably gonna grab Halo 5, Titanfall, ROTR, and the Forza bundle tomorrow and wait for Sunset Overdrive and MCC to go on sale.

I got one for Xmas too (early). I ended up getting MCC, Halo 5, Forza 6, ROtTR, AC Unity and Gears Ultimate because of the bundle. So far I've been going through MCC single player and it's really good. Make sure you download your games for gold and check out the sale on the Xbox Store. I just picked up the 3 Lego games that are dirt cheap.

1. SP is fine. Got my money's worth out of it. Last few times I tried playing MP still had issues finding matches. Haven't tried in awhile because......

2. Halo 5 is great IMO.

3. Ori and the Blind Forest for $10

Titanfall: played it more than I thought i would and payed 5$ fir it on sale. Easily worth 20$
I bought sunset overdrive but have yet to play it. Heard good things about it.

Edit: halo MCC is worth it if for the amount of content only. I only play single or coop and never had any issues. For my multiplayer fix I play 5

Edit2: backward compatibility is a bliss also. I've been enjoying south park stick of truth, borderlands, deus ex hr and fallout 3 for the first time

1. I always play campaign (99% of the time) so it was perfect for me. The time value alone was huge for me.

2. YES. I almost never play FPS multiplayer (see #1) and I am addicted to this. The campaign was a lot of fun too. Loved the team based approach.

3. Good prices are on Rare Replay, Sunset Overdrive, Forza 5, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Gears Ultimate

4. Costco? At least in Canada it is.

Also wanted to add the elite controller, if cost is no issue, is STELLAR. or just but the elite console and controller bundle. Best value there.

FWIW, it's my electronics "surprise" of 2015, aside from the iPad Air 2 which was also 10/10 IMO. Just shockingly good. (Also FWIW, I have a U and PS4 too)

Today I hooked my steam based laptop to the HDMI in port on the Xbox 1, as I had no ports left in my receiver. The Xbox immediately detected the resolution and sound from my laptop, ran perfectly.

Now my gaming life is:

Xbox: for exclusives, backward compatible games, and multiplatform (prefer controller and Live online infrastructure). Also for Netflix (compatible with my harmony remote), and a handful of Canadian app services (eg our version of HBO).

PS4: Japanese and Sony based exclusives (eg FFX HD, TLOU), 2D games because of controller style (eg Rayman, street fighter)

U: Nintendo exclusives only
 
Pretty much just echoing other people but...

All of the SP stuff in MCC works fine, I haven't messed with MP so can't comment.

Halo 5 is really really cool, the MP is great.

You gotta get Ori, and Sunset Overdrive. EA Access looks like an amazing deal, but I'm waiting for my BC to go down a bit before I do that.

Couldn't tell you about XBL deals.
 
Wait, did they actually fix MCC's co-op campaign when played split screen? I heard it was plagued by constant frame drops and inconsistency which is the reason I passed on an X1

1. Can't comment, still on the first level of Halo 1.
2. No, it's terrible (only played single-player).
3. Ori and the Blind Forest is $10 on Xbox Live (or was). Rise of the Tomb Raider was $39.99 at a lot of places and if it's not anymore it will be in a few weeks.
4. eBay frequently has them for $40, sometimes $30-$35. If you want one A.S.A.P I can sell you one for $40.

It never was, was always hyperbole. I mean, I don't doubt it had some odd drops now and then, but it wasn't anything you'd notice.
