I'm not against the idea on principle, using popular video game characters in commercials. And I clearly don't hate Lightning as much as the rest of ya'll. She's OK, a perfectly decent mid-tier FF protag, IMO. She's no Cloud, but she's no Tidus either.

Probably because she dominated Square Enix's Final Fantasy branding from 2006 to 2014. Final Fantasy XIII was a good game, but a bad Final Fantasy game, and Lightning was the face of that disappointment.

She also wasn't particularly interesting or well written, and the trilogy's director has a frankly unsettling love for her.
