Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

Love AGDQ. Some interesting twist categories thrown in there which is great to see. Where's that guy who did some Ocarina of Time blindfolded? That was incredible.

Bloodborne is cool, haven't seen that ata GDQ yet.

Little bit of a shame that it's not including Old Hunters but should be fun nonetheless.

Edit: Forbidden Woods skip? Fuck that.

Well, this is not really on behalf of Nintendo. For Ethan, this is personal trip because he genuinely loves speed runs and getting to meet speed runners, he's even learning speed run a game himself.

EDIT: Though for all we know, we could still see Nintendo involvement through donation prizes like Wii U's. Some of the prizes Ethan is giving away come from overstock at Nintendo and his own personal collection.

I think I remember AGDQ giving out a Wii U that came directly from NOA.

I thought I heard werster was banned from these things

I'll watch I suppose.

I'm really not too thrilled with things this time around either.

I haven't even looked at the schedule.

Oddest thing ever is Fire Emblem on the first day. Gwim was awesome on the other game last year and he had a great run with good commentary, but it is definitely not for everyone.

Must be Sakurai's doing.

Haven't followed the BB SR scene in a while but wasn't that skip patched at some point? or am i thinking of the boss skip in forbidden woods?

2014 had some decent moments anyway

SGDQ 2015 was WAYYYYY too serious tho, if it's anything like that it could my first year skipping the event

Need to grab some snacks when I get back to Austin to be prepped for this. :)

Howdy from San Antonio! Nice to see some Texans in this here thread.

Schedule looks fantastic. I'm really pleased that the first day coincides with the last day of my winter vacation. I'm thinking of taking another day off to watch that Disney block.

He pretty much spent the entirety of last year (once a week) playing OoT blind until he got 100%. And he did it, no joke, everything.
Not sure if or where it's archived, but his name is Runnerguy.

It's sad that the people who choose the games have somethinf against letting some rpgs into the mix. FFT got passed over as well as 6 and god forbid they let 10 or 10-2 in.

Hyped, as always! Subbed and ready for some cool speedruns. Lots of stuff I'm looking forward to:

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Mainly because of Miles)
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Resident Evil HD Remaster (Love the game + Carcinogen's a cool runner)
Ori and the Blind Forest (Amazing speedrun if you've never seen it)
Axiom Verge
Metroid Prime (Again, Miles)
Half-Life 2 (I'll never get tired of watching this game get speedrun)
Super Mario Maker (Custom Level Blind race sounds pretty entertaining)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (feasal's running it)
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! (blindfold incentive!)
Mirror's Edge (great speedrun to watch)
Secret of Mana
Mega Man 2 (Duckfist running it)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time / Master Quest (ZFG is a Zelda god)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (4p co-op / %100 run sounds fun)
Shovel Knight

Then I plan on watching all 4 runs at the end, b/c those games are just all good.

Yay! I can't wait. This should be super fun, as usual.

The data shows that too much of the audience tunes out on RPGs. They take forever to play and usually don't feature visually interesting skips. Some games just aren't good for speed running.

Good luck Yagamoth on the Secret of Mana run!

Nice looking list of games. Soma 1:25:00 speedruns already after only 3 months of release. And that Blaster Master race should be interesting -- 4 of the top 5 WR holders.

I think they try not to include too many really lengthy games, and they've got a long Majora run this year. Anyway there's Fire Emblem, Secret of Mana, Pokemon, Paper Mario, and FF IV, which is pretty decent.

10-2 is actually a pretty short run, compared to ff10, anyway.

We will have to wait for Limit Break 2016.

Cant say i find the list that interesting outside a few games.

Isn't werster banned from all GDQs?

Afaik he never really gave an explanation, just a tweet where he said that, but then I think I read that the GDQ guys said he wasnt? Don't know really.

Why would he be?

Anyway, going from Australia to US for this event is probably not worth it for him.

Too much swearing I guess? Which is ironic since he dropped a n-word live during a bonus stream at AGDQ 13 if I'm not mistaken and he came back for SDGQ the same year, where he just said a few fucks.

Still yeah, he did say he was in bad waters financially a few months ago.

What made that year special? The one this past summer was the first I saw parts of live. What changed? Or was it just spontaneous, in the moment events that made it memorable?

Nah pretty much every GDQ event prior to 2015 (the big change started to happen in 2014) felt different, the "laid back" atmosphere it's just gone, screams corporate way too much now

Isn't werster banned from all GDQs?

Was that the guy that harassed a girl at SGDQ a few years back?

EDIT: Oh he was the Crash runner that made all the suicide and mass-murder jokes. God that run was gringe.

EDIT: Nope, not that either.

bl00d_thunder is doing Wolfenstein? Awesome. Also nice to see Miles doing Metroid Prime again. Carci is doing REmake: check.

It'll be fun to see a Mario 64 rematch after the last race.

edit: oh wow, 100% The Talos Principle?! Can't wait to see that. Hopefully the Road to Gehanna incentive is met.

I think he's definitely still holding a grudge for it too, at least it comes across that way in his tweets (if I'm reading this right):

Also that was gamepro011. He was a whole new level of cringe.

I'm in for tasbot, but I wish it did something more exciting than playing Brain Age.

Next sgdq better have more shmups (and people playing them on stage, not that recorded bullshit :( )

Let's see if this AGDQ manages to rekindle the fun that was lost since summer of 2014

It won't

Probably won't. All of the corporate backroom politics and shady shit have kind of soured all of these events for me.

Is Mike Uyama still "sick" and won't make yet another public appearance despite making around six figures for each of these events?
