About Games Done Quick
For over 10 years, Games Done Quick has been a charity fundraising organization that raises money for charity via speedrunning. Volunteers play games at incredible speed ("Speedrunning") for entertainment. Our events are streamed live online, non-stop, and all donations go directly to the charity. Games Done Quick events feature runners playing games from every generation of gaming history! They play their games live, and explain in detail the many tricks and glitches they use to get the fastest times.
During our events, be sure to take a look at the various donation incentives, which can include additional challenges, new content, and even quirky things like naming in-game characters! Be sure to take a look at the list while you're filling out your donation.

Is this the one where everyone has a link to a spreadsheet of pronouns and there are popup reminders to take your meds?
Yes. The one that opened with around 100k viewers, back before pronouns were mandatory. They opened today at roughly 33k.

I'll still try to catch a few games, but it's fallen off hard

I'm just going to jump in this wall 100 times until it teleports me to the end. Thats it guys, we speedran this!

I get it, it's for charity, I hope, but I still can't stand these people.

Clicked the live feed to see what was being played... Jet Set Radio, and they made sure to put the trans flag on the character's shirt. And the announcer just screeched "Trans Rights". "she/they" pronouns for one of the people on the couch. Yeah I'm out. What a freak show.

This event was great when the best runners were (mostly) just autistic boys and a few absolute chads.
But no, they had to escalate the requirements to have all kinds of disabilities *or* be a total soyboy.

You know the saddest thing about the speedrunning scene?
For a few years now, they've been having all-female events (ie "Frame Fatales" and a few variations on that title).
The problem is, in a pretty short time it became very obvious that there's simply not enough skilled nerdy gamer girls to keep these events going, and they're usually not as highly skilled as the guys anyways. So by now the "all-female" events feature at least 50% transtrender guys in a wig and a dress, which is hilariously offensive to the real gamer girls who put in an effort and destroys the whole point of the thing.

Oh well, I guess I'll catch up a few runs later. Too many recent games, out-of-bounds glitches, and savescumming shenanigans these days anyway. I loved this shit when they ran a ton of stuff no newer than the PS2/GC era.

I remember a thread on Twitter where someone showed the Frame Fatales lineups and it had more trans "women" than actual women

And the trans infiltration in speedrunning and especially at GDQ is way beyond coincidence at this point.

They MADE it a magnet for trans folks. More trans runners apply, they get accepted, they draw more trans viewers/donors and so it rinses and repeats

I mean wtf. Do we REALLY need a TRANSRIGHTS shout every fucking 30 minutes

They've even got dedicated spinoffs now like Games Done Queer for LGBTQ+ focus plus the Fatales series ofcourse

They went so balls in with the mental health crowd, it's fucking bananas how they took something I would watch on my free time and turn it into identity politics 101,
like it's on Picture in Picture mode, on the side of the runs, which are basically unwatchable due to the narration going on and other 'theatrics'.

It's like they like promoting that stuff more than the gameplay and it's blatantly obvious that there is a push for it, with video games as a vehicle to drive it.

So it's just as offensive to girls as real sports. Got it.

So the runners of Split Fiction went into a rant about how people of color are depicted as animals in games. Basically, when it's time for a character to turn into an animal in a game, it's usually a POC according to this freak. Yet someone like AZ can go on a Starfield Pronoun rant and get ridiculed. Frankly both runners and their friends were all freak shows. Also, I've lost count on all the trans rights shout out garbage. Don't like how a POC is represented....don't play the game then continue to complain about it. Go fuck yourselves.

If the commentary was just about games and it wasn't so fucking cringe all of the time, I'd watch it all week.

Again, it isn't hard. Literally tell the people not to talk about anything other than what is happening in the game, explaining speed run tricks and glitches, stuff like that. Don't read any weird donations, don't display pronouns. Don't allow furries or whatever to take over the stream. If they did 3 years of that, that'd be back to peak viewership and donations in no time. If someone complains just explain it's not about them, it's about raising money for charity and that means not doing anything to exclude viewers and/or donors.

I guess it really depends on the game(s) you tune in to watch. Just finished the Wuchang VOD and it seemed like a pretty normal run. I quite enjoyed the runner and couch commentary. Had a couple "trans rights!" donations but those are pretty mundane and easily ignored like all the other 2-3 word donations.

Hate how this once epic event turned into a freakshow.

Also the pacing is terrible. So much downtime, intermission and post-game interview nonsense. Just play the games.

Yeah I used to actually enjoy watching it when it was actually about skill. Not everyone should be given a mic. If you don't have something meaningful to say about the game then spare us the mental low iq commentary.
