Hey guys, I just recieved a late 20 dollars card as a late christmas gift and was thinking of spending it on a shooter. Been a while since I've tried one that's fun and the ones like CoD or Battlefield aren't doing it for me right now. I was thinking on getting Battlefront for cheap, but after going through GAF a little bit, I ended up deciding not to get it. Any recommendations?

Rainbow Six Siege is good, probably my favorite shooter to come out in years. Seriously. It's been a long time since I have felt tension in a shooter like I have this game.

So many DLC packs and expansions...reviews seem to indicate they retroactively stripped mechanics out of base game and into expansions?
Nope, it's probably stuff some people believed should have been in the base game. The game's amazing, but you do need the DLC, it's not just for funsies.

I've seen a few videos of it and it always just seemed like an eyesore (literally, my eyes strained when watching it) but Downwell is actually great and I don't have the same issue I had when watching other people play it. For two bucks it seems like a really good deal for something in the style of House of Super Dead Ninjas or Luftrausers, something you can pick up and play for fifteen minutes from now until forever.

Wouldn't say that they stripped away mechanics from the game exactly. The closest thing I can think of that bears anything close to stripping away mechanics is the redone building system. Building slots being tied to "mana" sourced culmination in a province, i.e default is 1 slot, 10 total mana = 2 total slots, and so on. Access to dumping mana into a province is available only with a specific expansion.

Besides the above, the expansions mostly add to the game [including bugs]. Like being able to declare independence as a vassal from Conquest of Paradise. Or being able to raze conquered land for sweet mana as a Horde nation from The Cossacks.

Sounds good, will probably try it.

Also, does anyone has recommendations for adventure games? I've liked Telltale's games, so I've trying to look for games like that.

Shovel Knight is so good, old school style 2D platformers with newer conventions (such as not having to worry about lives) are great.

Europa Universalis IV is 75% off, if you don't own it yet. If you buy, or are already playing, please consider joining our nice little MP community on GAF. We are starting a brand, spanking new round of mp goodness in early January. Ho ho ho.

It's pretty good.

I'm thinking I might get the Prince of Persia games. I've been waiting for a while for them to get back to 75% off, but at this point I don't think it's going to happen. I figured the only chance I had of that happening was for a new game to get announced and then for the series to show up as a franchise daily deal, but with the elimination of daily and flash deals there's no chance of that happening now.

No. What happened was that they overhauled the building system and added in province development. Province development is a great addition, and allows you to play 'tall' nations, rather than just having to expand outwards and blob up. What a few very loud people are annoyed about is that province development ties into how many buildings you can put in a province, which means that unless you buy the DLC you can only put one, maybe two buildings in your provinces. Which is a change from before, where you could put in as many buildings as you want in any province. It's also arguably a change for their DLC policy, where any features that were changed would be put in for free, while new features had to be bought.

There was also a lot of loud people frustrated with the new forts system. Whereas before you had to siege down every province, now you just have a few forts with a zone of control in surrounding provinces. So you have fewer, bigger sieges. There was a lot of awkwardness around zones of control and armies moving through them, but it's still a change for the better.

Basically, things changed and some people got annoyed. Even though those changes are for the better.

As for what DLC to get, there's two essential DLC packs, Common Sense and Art of War, that you'll find useful no matter what nation you're playing as. The others have some great features that will be of use depending on what nation you pick. For instance, Res Publica is great if you're playing a Merchant Republic, but not hugely needed if not.

Also, don't play it, it'll totally destroy your life and make you rage about AI incompetence while you watch France take twelve HRE provinces and gain no aggressive expansion, but if you dare to take one province you'll have half of Europe pick a fight with you instead.

Thanks for participating, everyone! Sure hope you don't have them already (I warned you!)

For those of you wondering, the games in question were:

Dungeons of Dredmor Complete
Gray Matter
Mount & Blade Warband
Just Cause 2
Terraria

which dlc?

no dlcs are worth 10 dollars
Of course DLC can be worth it, in this case the Burial at Sea episodes are worth it. And in general, The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches say hello, Dishonored's DLC are one of the best added content I've ever played.

As long as those DLC are Minerva's Den and Burial At Sea part 1&2.

I think he means Infinite's season pass (9,99$), the Burial at Sea episodes are 7,49$ a piece. Minerva's Den is an additional 1,99$

Okay, so more expansions adding in robust mechanics that really impact the game. I can see people being annoyed they have to buy it as opposed to being patched in to the base game if they feel like it is 'essential'.

infinite season pass has been 5 bucks and disnhonored and its dlcs were pretty cheap tho!

but yeah i was just speaking relatively that dlcs shouldn't be that expensive especially that we all spent lower than that for the main game lol

Did Ubisoft get rid of their Uplay requirements for newer games? On the syndicate page it makes no mention of it, and it'd make my purchasing decisions far easier if I didn;t have to re-install the client.

Unfortunately there is no Prince of Persia pack like there is a Brothers in Arms pack, where the price isn't as low as it should be, but the pack price makes it palatable.

Technically, still the best discounts we've received in years just because Ubisoft tends to apply a general sales discount for some of their less known games of 33%.

Huh.
After about 6 hours of gametime, I just realized that the game I've been playing is called Paint it Back, not Paint it Black.

How is the Wasteland 2 directors cut? Is it still unforgiving and crazy difficult like it was around launch?

Also thinking about D4.

Valve stole this from enhanced steam, but you are correct in that Ubisoft used to list it separately.

Anyone else experiences screen tearing while scrolling down the library in the steam client? I know I wont be scrolling it all day but it still is really annoying.

Ok. im about to buy Pillars of Eternity, and I already have Divinity and Wasteland 2 DC. Which one should I play first? Pillars looks great and I loved their writing in NewVegas.

Shadow Warrior
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Metro Redux games

Kinda OT, but is there any way to tell if you have mods installed from the workshop? I just bought KotOR 2 and I subscribed to the lost content mod but it never showed any indication of it downloading. I don't use steam much so I'm probably just missing something obvious.

If you really want to play all of them, go with wasteland first, or else you'll have a hard time with the downgrade in quality. Divinity and Pillars are equally good, and have about the same lenght, so, that one is on you (I'd go Wasteland->Divinity->Pillars)

Are the sanctum games good? Buy both or only one of them?

I wasn't too big on the first Sanctum. Sanctum 2 is great though. If I recall, the towers in the game are kinda weak. You do a lot of shooting. Overall, if a tower defense/fps hybrid game sounds appealing to you, buy it -- it's a ton of fun.

I wonder if the poster linked a wrong game. Store page doesn't seem say it has support for cards, their trading forum also has no posts... or maybe I'm just misunderstanding something.

The only free game I know has a card support without microtransactions is Heroine's Quest. They're only available by crafting booster packs from gems, making them rare.

I was reffering to the steamdiscovery qeue in which this game showed up. Just not worth going through such NSFL stuff for it.
