People trying to downplay Lucas' involvement in the creation of Star Wars are the fucking worst. The epitome of disgusting and ungrateful fanboy behavior. Christ.
Wow, the salt.
He kickstarted this whole thing. Having help doesn't change that.
I'm sorry, I'm not jumping into the senseless hate bandwagon.

He did a decent enough job with the lightsaber once he started using it for someone with no training with it at all despite losing both battles and having no Force powers at all.
This is how I feel on him, too. For all the crap he's done, he still gave us Star Wars.
There are three more pages after the quoted portion.

The design of Maz Kanata took longer than expected and they ran out of time to create the character as a puppet (just as they had done for Yoda in Empire) as they originally wanted. Maz was one of the last designed characters for the film, finalized in October 2015 just months before the films release.
George Lucas didn't "give" us Star Wars, he gave us the opportunity to buy Star Wars.

Suggesting what people should or should not feel grateful for is crossing a line. You're welcome to be responsible for your own feelings but not for others'. Thanks.

Dropping out of hyperspace against the Starkiller was a legitimate tactic because they wanted to get through its shield, a fleet with huge ships dropping too close to the planet (that doesn't have any shields) doesn't leave time to launch an offensive without alerting the rebels. This is too easy of an excuse.
Sure you can break physics and logic all you want, but you better stay consistent with what has been established before in prior movies of the world you are trying to build or everything becomes arbitary and the stakes don't feel "real" in that world.
e.g. why is Vader strangling Admiral Ozzle for coming out of Hyperspace too close to Hoth and then in TFA this is a legitimate tactic against Starkiller base? Did the Empire loose all sense for tactics?
A different, more recent weapon has advantages over the old model. Why does Deathstar I need to orbit around Yavin IV in ANH when Starkiller base can just have arcing laser beams that don't need a direct fireline and can fire from what looks like across the galaxy (and reach the target in like 10 minutes)?
Because the Empire is... well, an empire with loads of resources and a huge fleet while the FO is a group of rebels. Why is Deathstar II defended by what looked like at least 30 Stardestroyers and a gazillion Tie-Fighters and Starkiller base which is like at least 20x the size has 0 cap ships and 10 Tie-Fighters?
That was stupid. In ANH and ROTJ the Deathstars can only be defeated by the Rebels cause they have the blueprints or strike before construction is complete.
In TFA all they need is 8 X-Wings and 2 minutes of brain storming.
Nothing makes any sense.
So what would Episode VII look like if GL made it?
Since he dislikes introducing new characters to the franchise, I guess Palpatine survives and resurrects Darth Vader. And it's Luke, Han and Leia vs the Empire again.

Naw, he has gone on record saying his Episode 7 would have been about the grandchildren (plural) so that makes me believe that the story would have including the children of Leia, Han and Luke.
Interestingly enough, I don't know that the original 3 come back if GL is helming. That is especially true for Harrison Ford, methinks.

I don't think it's hard to get Harrison Ford to agree to do a movie, it's just hard to get him to stay awake during the shooting of that movie. (See also: Ender's Game.)
lol @ george calling disney 'white slavers'
It's a movie, not D-Day, no need to be grateful for someone making a movie.
Star Wars like any other movie is just a bunch of ideas, Hollywood is littered with ideas, it's the execution that matters.
This reminds me a bit of the Grimoire in Destiny. What I love about Star Wars is the films; not the books, or comics, etc. They need to stand on their own and "it was explained in the book" doesn't do anything for me because I'm not interested in those mediums. I love movies. Similarly, "the story is great in the Grimoire" when it comes to Destiny doesn't work, because I like playing games not reading cards on a website.
The tidbits that have been mentioned from the novelization that flesh out TFA a bit are interesting, but if they're not in the film, then they don't really help it. Great for fans of the EU and who want more Star Wars in other mediums, but there's nothing wrong with simply being a fan of the films, and disinterested in the rest.
I wonder what got him to do a fantastic performance in TFA. Was it the insane amount of money they gave him? Was it because he actually cares of Star Wars? Is it because he likes JJ?
Whatever it was, I'm glad he actually tried. The only difference between Han Solo then and now is just his age, he couldn't have done a better job.
"Star Wars is great! No need to thank Lucas, though, because it's just a bunch of Hollywood ideas"
"The Star Wars prequels suck! BLAME LUCAS! DEATH to Lucas!"
I'm beginning to understand this twisted line of thinking. And it sucks.
Forgive me. I feel it again...the call from light. Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way. Show me, grandfather, and I will finish what you started.
best non-BB8 character tbh
