"we'll see how the domestic goes" they said

Is that guy known around here for making super-accurate predictions or something?

I'll give him that, he was carrying himself like he was supposed to be saying the things he was saying like they were things people should say.

I mean, they weren't, but the act was solid.

According to Rth, Star Wars brought in 33 million dollars on Monday.

Edit: It's a 23% drop from Sunday, more or less. And it probably means that it will hit 600 millions on Tuesday.

I was one of those that bought a ticket on Monday - to a packed 10:00am 2D no-frills showing. Just crazy.

I wasn't expecting a 30+ million Monday. Wow.

I mentioned close to a week ago that people should get ready for more $30M+ days this week.

Avatar's second Monday-Thursday grosses were all higher than its first Monday-Thursday. Star Wars having 20-30% drops this week is pretty normal.

I keep looking for points of reference for how off the charts nuts this is. Random point of reference #786: TFA's 2nd Monday was larger than any single day of Avatar's entire run, including weekends.

Star Wars will have the first and second best Mondays of all time.

Godzilla wasn't great. It's just that Looper was terrible.

nah. Not by any stretch.

Not only is this comparison still weird just at its base, it's weird in that we're comparing Gareth Edwards best movie (easily better than Monsters, even if it's not overall much better than "okay" at best) against Johnson's least, (both Brick and Bloom are better than Looper), which is still a fairly well put together film, especially considering the ambition in its plotting.

It's not like Looper is the only thing Johnson's made. I know that putting Bruce Willis in your movie makes your movie a little more noticeable to people, but he did make two other films that are very, very fucking good. Limiting any/all comparison of his works to just Looper is... well, limiting.

Yeah, but you also said we probably shouldn't be using Avatar's model as a measuring stick so much!

It's nuts that this still isn't going to be #1 all time

It will be in the US. Rest of the world just doesn't care as much.

I love Cameron, so I wasn't thirsty to watch Avatar fall. It is always fun to watch records fall, though. Like I've been saying for months, I think whatever takes Avatar down will be something no one sees coming just like Titanic and Avatar.

Warcraft it is.

That's what I meant WW

Battle Angel.

WHICH IS IT K-SWISS. DON'T LOOK TO AVATAR? OR LOOK TO AVATAR?

It's obviously not following Avatar, but it is having holiday holds.

In December 2009 pretty much every holdover had better weekday numbers from Dec 28-31 than they did the week previously (unless the film was gutted for screens to make room for Sherlock and company the week before). Star Wars is still recent and burning off insane demand, but good holds this week are to be expected.

In addition to school kids from ages 5-25, a lot of workplaces have the week off this week.
