Planned on grabbing the humble bundle for both of us to try it first.Life is Strange?
Who's got some suggestions for great story based games that are easy on action? Girlfriend is looking for something laid back and narrative.
Are those actually good? I remember having them in a bundle before.
Sorry nothing spookySunless Sea
Contradiction gets my vote~Sunless Sea
Ended up picking up Lords of the Fallen as well.
Seems like it's worth ~$5.
Started playing Undertale. I don't know what to think about it yet, it's okay so far, but I don't see where I'm making any choices., and to switch switches to get through the rooms.I feel like I were forced to fight my "mother" to progress
excellent suggestions
yes, they're fantastic games with really good writing and really good themesAre those actually good? I remember having them in a bundle before.
I think because you 'level up skills in a skill tree' your parkouring feels really stiff until you hit the third tier where you climb/mantle stuff faster. I also feel like it's not as robust as Mirror's Edge parkour at times, or the variety of freerunning moves feels limited. Especially when I can't do some of the stuff Mirror's Edge just lets you do.not entirely sure how i feel about dying light. the story is the trashiest garbage that feels that every line of dialogue you hear somehow manages to be even worse than the one before but i don't really care much for any of the minute-to-minute stuff. the parkour feels nothing like mirror's edge, you don't feel swift, you feel like a chunky marine dude snapping to preset positions through not-so-quick animations. and speaking of slow animations, i must've seen that slow ass chest-opening animation like 200 times already in like 3 hours of play, that shit is not fun. nor is any of the combat.
but there's something to be said for the general fun of giving you a town with scary zombie guys and letting you explore it at your leisure in a slightly more involved way than ass creed, even tho this town is hideous and super boring to look at and everyone living in it somehow managed to have even less personality than the zombies walking the streets
i'm pretty close to calling it quits. i just gotta admit that games like this are not for me. i need a decent story to keep myself involved, or at least not having one that's insulting
yeah me too
yeah i get what you're saying, i just can't find myself playing it enough to progress muchI think because you 'level up skills in a skill tree' your parkouring feels really stiff until you hit the third tier where you climb/mantle stuff faster. I also feel like it's not as robust as Mirror's Edge parkour at times, or the variety of freerunning moves feels limited. Especially when I can't do some of the stuff Mirror's Edge just lets you do.
It kinda also opens up when you get the grappling hook. And the second map, unless you've already been there, because that feels more fun to parkour around in.
Are those actually good? I remember having them in a bundle before.
I definitely like Dying Light and I'll admit it's a game you have to take both the freerunning and combat things equally at a point. I think it does commit that cardinal sin where you need to invest in the skills to make a big difference in freerunning. Even AC (at least up to Unity) has never really been a big gatekeeper there with a few small exceptions for side content, you can freerun however you want from the start.yeah i get what you're saying, i just can't find myself playing it enough to progress much
if john the marine johnson was a bit more graceful and could wallrun aka the most fun parkour thing then i'd probably a lot more into it, but as it is i can only handle so much before feeling like i'm wasting my time or grossed out from the excessive violence and gore
i feel there's a really good gameplay loop here because scavenging for parts and being all tense because of zombies walking around and finding paths through rooftops and whatnot is all great but it's also tied to really gamey and boring things like having to unlock safehouses and having to fight with really shallow combat in which all weapons kind of feel the same. like i don't even fight zombies cos they're so boring to deal with and that's cool, but then the game turns into run straight from this place to that place and that's just assassins creed and ass creed has the advantage of being gorgeous and super interesting to look at and also kind of having a fun story with fun characters and all that crap
basically, i wish you could wallrun![]()
it's just a really good game, vn or not. it's a lot more involved than a regular vn which is great since i find regular vns super boring. being able to move at your own pace and investigate and learn is great, it feels like an actual game and everythingAnalogue (haven't played Hate Plus) is arguably among the best VNs on Steam. Though granted that's largely because a lot of the heavy hitters are still missing.
yeah i think the big mistake is that you can gate some stuff as fun unlockables and everything, that's satisfying and feels like good reward for your progress, much better than raw stats or anything like thatI definitely like Dying Light and I'll admit it's a game you have to take both the freerunning and combat things equally at a point. I think it does commit that cardinal sin where you need to invest in the skills to make a big difference in freerunning. Even AC (at least up to Unity) has never really been a big gatekeeper there with a few small exceptions for side content, you can freerun however you want from the start.
Although to continue my point, combat complexity, like navigation mechanics are also gated by a skill tree, so there's that. As fun as the game is it does sometimes feel like you have to play it until it gets more fun.
I'm several hours inand it's safe to say that Ys 6 is a distant third after Felghana and Origin.just fixed the mirror
yo, imagine that game without fast travel. how are you liking dash jumping?
I'm honestly surprised that I can't give away that copy of Fly'n. I tried last year and it was never taken in the giveaway thread and this year it's still around after 70+ other games have been taken that I offered up. I haven't beaten my copy but I was really impressed with what I played for a smaller platformer that feels similar to the newer Rayman games. It looks good and plays smoothly.
I don't stick around the Steam threads all that often (simply too many posts for how much I browse) but was Fly'n not liked by folks here? Or has nobody else tried it out? Oh well.
Edit: And of course while I wrote this post someone finally grabbed it. Good job! Hopefully you'll enjoy it!

I forgot that originally the Ys 6 didn't have fast travel. Jeeeezus.
Also I've yet to even try dash-jumping.
EDIT: Ohhhhh okay. So that's how it works. What a silly game.
It think it's just that it's been bundled many times and I'm pretty sure even given away for free in promotions at least once, maybe more.
Edit: Cleaning out my inventory and no one has this on their wishlist!
It honestly felt like it took me hours to learn how to dash jump. So silly.
RTS's with a focus on story and like an actual single player campaign that's more than just MP tutorials seem kind of rare. Is Homeworld the best in that subgenre? Any other recommendations?
Not gonna talk you out of TiTS cause both are great games, but i'll say that those negatives reviews from november were from one patch, and a lot of the random stuff was either changed in december or put into the options menu as added difficulty to turn on if you choose. Still a tough game, just not near as bad as some of those reviews paint it.Uh-oh, you're right.
I've just read some of the reviews and discussions, the hard part of the game is actually the harsh RNG system. People are calling it 'fake hard'. And damn, I hate combat RNG so much. Thanks for the warning!

Okay, so. I read that a few times now. Since I havent played the game in a while, I started up a new session and play a few hours yesterday. Anecdotal evidence, but I am still alive and kicking. Is the game hard? Certainly, its probably the most unrelenting of any of the "roguelite" games, which is also very fitting due to its despair theme. Does the game reward you with proper planning and knowledge of game mechanics and content? Definitely, starts with tactical decisions in combat to planning the proper group formation for the long term.
Its a tough game, its also an unpleasant game and one of the few games where I am actively considering retreating from fights and dungeons just to save my skin. However, not even failing and losing all of your adventurers might be a an immediate failure, as you always have 12 or more heroes (4 per party/run) that you switch out regularly.
Might the game still throw you something that seems unsurmountable? Sure, might happen. But I cant think of any roguelike, which doesnt throw something super randomly hard at you from time to time. In this game you can still back out of fights, quite dungeons and retry again with your better knowledge of items and skills.
You can get a solid dozen hours from this and its one of the most original and athmospheric games in the genre, so I'd say to give it a shot if you want to fight your fears (and horribly fail at doing so).
Oooh thank you, Syndicate handles the best in the series, Arno moves like a tank, and I'm digging the reworked combat system.
I wanna say thr Ys seriesNeed a recommendation for someone who only played diablo 3 since its release. He also played gran turismo 5 and starcraft 2 before that.
He made himself a steam account and wants some new games to play

I must say, that the whole "get cards for looking at your discovery queue" is a good thing. I added a bunch of titles to my wishlist, even some games i forgot i wanted ages ago.
would be rad though if Steam natively displays a notification on the frontpage if you are "not interested" in a title. like wishlist and owned games.
For an SRPG fan as well as one of high quality 2d, is Banner Saga as good as it looks?
If I have extra copies of a game on Steam, can anyone explain how I find out their codes so I can do a Modbot giveaway? At the moment the only options available to me seem to be to email them or send them to friends. Thanks.

Barebones makes it sound a bit too negative, though. The SRPG part is simpler, but positioning and evaluating targets is still hugely important and makes for interesting tactical decisions. For the amount of combat featured (you will not spend most of the time in combat) it suits it very well actually. Not really, the SRPG part is really bare-bones.
Think of it more like an animated version of Oregon Trail.
