Fuck, I had the exact same experience yesterday. I almost didn't want to play it at the time I got it all to work properly.

Can someone come with examples of choices in Undertale? I don't seem to notice them much, and I always go for the fight against creatures, some times I spare them.
 
Wanted to say thanks again to the guys recommanding me Tales of Borderlands and especially Life is Strange. I played episode one today (got if from humble bundle) and was blown away. Really charming and irritating at the same time. Also that music... Will pick up the remaining episodes in the steam sale now.

It doesn't really run poorly after first installed, it runs poorly if you haven't restarted Windows right before playing (so your suggestion still works). I still don't know exactly why.

The choices are in how you react to fights. Killing and sparing enemies changes the story. It might not be apparent right away, but the story massively changes, especially toward the end, depending on your actions. It's not a "choose X or Y" type of game (though there are a few of these that change things), it is reacting to your overall behavior.
 
Anyone know if there are some tactical games like the 1997 "Achtung Spitfire" on Sale on Steam?

A Christmas gift from my sister. I've really enjoyed what I've played of it, but I can definitely see how people who were huge fans of JC2 aren't too thrilled about it. The parachute is terrible now, guessing because of the new wingsuit (which I freaking love). Destruction is still a blast. Hate the vehicle / helicopter / plane handling. Don't know, just feels off. Maybe I haven't gotten used to it yet. Also not a fan of having to do challenges in order to unlock the mods.

Now this, this really surprised me. I got it on a whim since the description intrigued me. It's entirely text, no graphics or sound. A choose your own adventure novel essentially. Far more interactive than I expected, and very well written in my option. There's multiple endings (I've gotten two so far, not sure if there's more than that.) Would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys visual novels or reading in general.

I honestly only picked this up because it had been suggested to me a few times, and I happened to have just enough for it after having gotten the next game on this list. I'm really glad I did. It's just a blast to play, far more fun than I was expecting it to be. You can't go wrong with this, it's less than $3!

Now this, this was a major surprise. Saw it suggested in another thread and that a few other people had picked it up. Such an odd mixture that just blends so, so well. It gives me that "One more go" feeling that I haven't had from a game in sometime. The first DLC expansion has shot to #2 on my wishlist, I can't stop playing it. The deck building mechanics combined with table-top quest feeling and then having actual combat instead of dice rolls makes things feel very unique I think. Probably my most highly recommended game yet.

It's really great, especially once you get the hang of things and start going for objectives. The game also works really well with many different play styles. I personally love using the shotgun to shoot down doors into enemies, it makes me all warm inside.

They also patched the game since release, and improved the engine to not suck. It's really smooth now.
 
Bought Mad Max in the sale and I'm really enjoying it, and my god it looks beautiful.

Also bought Euro Truck Simulator 2 and that is beautiful in a whole different way. Spent more time trying to park than driving haha

If only the game's sense of humour was my cup of tea. Felt like really bad edgelord comedy at times, or just outrageous overreliance on a mountain of non-sequiturs to keep it going more than anything else.

But glad to hear they've been patching the game and stuff. Enjoyed the gameplay of what little I did when I first got it.

Finished Retro City Rampage. Was there any 80's phenomenon this game didn't reference? Maybe Alf? Anyway, I really enjoyed it and I'm glad it's getting a sequel. It also evolved from open world to pure 8 bit action in the last couple of hours, there's definitely a difficulty spike near the end. Recommended for anyone into retro games and the 80's in general.

Eh, while PC gaming isn't as difficult as some claim to be, it's definitely not as idiot-proof as console gaming.

i think the conversation has been moot for a long time because just like the extreme letterboxing on the evil within, no one's buying that these are artistic choices being made. we all know that if they could have the same visuals/gameplay and 60 fps or more or whatever they wouldn't lock it at 30.

so i think it's dumb for developers to pop up and try to argue for one thing or the other, specially on a medium that has the beauty of choice and could easily allow you to lock it at whatever you want, even like 4 fps for if you want to have a powerpoint presentation experience.

so let's stop talking about the artistic merits of one over the other because no one is making a believable case. do let people know because people like playing in 60 fps and whenever you can't, specially in an action game, it feels kind of awful. in general it would be awesome if console manufacturers did like benchmarks awards or something to reward games that have consistent fps and aren't a total nightmare like bayonetta or something

mind you i don't think 60 fps is a right gamers have or anything, i think 30 lock is perfectly fine as long as it doesn't constantly dip and it's 100% up to developers to decide if that's how they like their game to look or if that's the concession they want to make. it'd be nice if you were able to unlock it on pc given that hardware is never gonna be a problem, but i also understand that some stuff is framerate dependant so there's that too.

only things i think should be 100% mandatory are at least consistent 30 fps, resolution options, colorblind options, changeable keybindings (tho not advanced controller and/or keyboard support, that's just nice to have) and subtitles/volume options.

so basically a stable framerate, futureproofing resolution and accesibility options

Really wish there were some 3D platformers on Steam. I bought Poi and 100%'d it in two hours. I know it's early access and they're adding to it, but I need more platforming goodness now.
 
Man, Salsa wasn't kidding about Rocket League.

Bought yesterday, I'm already 6 hours in and today I had my first streak or whatever you wanna call it.

6 matches, 6 won, 4 MVP, 2 hat tricks
and 1 match won 3-2 starting from 0-2 and with 3 goals all scored by me in the last couple of minutes.

And best of all, it was a sort of clash of clashes, PC team vs PSYNET team.
I guess our solid framerate really did matter.



Speaking of framerate, I tried saving a replay and watching it jumping here and there on the timeline. Halfway through the match, the framerate started going down, to 30 or something, but it felt much lower, as it was basically impossible doing anything, and even the menu to go back to the title screen took a second or so to show up.
Is this a known bug or something that just happened to me because of my mad skillz in that match?
 
Okay, so that ThrustMaster joystick I talked about ordering earlier in the thread arrived in the mail today and now I need to grab one of X-Wing and TIE Fighter (which is why I bought the joystick).

I'm getting TIE Fighter off of GOG since I've heard that's the way to go with that game, but is there any reason not to get X-Wing Alliance on Steam? Just checking.

Hm, the lame references and obnoxious last few levels/boss fights made me rather dislike the game in the end. Wasted opportunity imo.

Besides the no-DRM thing, as far as I know XWA is the same exact version in both, GOG and Steam.

Yeah I get that. They really went overboard with the references a bit, it's like every dialog bubble or screen had some.

Of course its not but I assume people on such a forum wouldnt have a problem building a PC and know about how to use one for gaming in a lot of different enviroments.
 
Blackguards isn't holding my attention very well. I hoped I'd love it since I'm a fan of turn based strategy but it's just kind of meh.
