GameTrailers GOTY 2015

what changes a score for game of the year i wonder?
if you go by game review scores then the witcher was the highest score they gave for the yr. if you dont understand go back and look at each games individual review.
the scores are as follows

witcher 9.8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4-H3VTmhLQ
bloodborne 9.6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hc2rEIgEaK4
mgs v 9.3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTrhGCH9TOk
star craft 9.2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltIZWNz7V2c
fallout 9.0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFgbt1HIYzs

but somehow bloodborne wins ?
i;m not biased at all i have yet to play any of the nominee's
i do have bloodborne and mgs in my backlog though.

i just think whats the point of a review score if the highest one doesnt even win goty.

discuss?

It was already discussed in this very thread. Those scores are one member's opinion, this is the groups opinion

Sigh. GOTYs are a group choice, not a single person's viewpoint. Also <0.5 in score differences are meaningless.

Pot calling the kettle black.

I continue to be vindicated by people on my ignore list.

^A concensus vs a single person giving a review. Its not that hard to understand.
Yep.

I know that everyone is saying "X game got robbed", but I feel uneasy that Splatoon is missing on so many of these lists. However, Mario Maker makes the cut.

It bums me out that GT seems to reflect a lot of the older "hardcore" gaming audience today but not nearly the views of some of the worse youtube celebrities . Generally laid back, excited about the things that are coming (but not screaming about it), frustrated (not really mad though) with the things that are wrong in the industry, and willing to give some smaller games a shot, because they want to play them, not to get the "OH LOOK HOW DUMB AND WEIRD THIS GAME IS" views.

So true sn00zer. They are such a refreshing change of pace

Also worth mentioning that both games had issues at launch that were later remedied as well as significant expansions.

Indeed. May not have been your top choice, but I agree with the GT group at large regarding Bloodborne.

Happy New Years to you and all the GT staff. Thanks for your honest, fun and insightful commentary. Can't wait to share 2016 gaming memories with you all.

come on. You're uneasy about what exactly? the idea that not a lot of people agree with you for their favorite games? I can understand being disappointed, but saying "uneasy" makes it seem like something sinister is going on

In the past (Sattersfield era), the GOTY was awarded to the highest score game of the year. Looks like they've changed that.

Witcher was their highest scoring game this year.

You're right, which is why I was sure the Witcher was going to win, but I guess they changed their rules. GT has changed a lot.

I remember I used to be a huge listener of Invisible Walls back in the day where they had those staff icons on the bottom that lit up when whoever was speaking. I remember the shit storm they got when MW2 won GOTY in 2009 and how Shane was defending it.

While I am reminiscing about old GT, those old school Bonus Round episodes were always a Sunday must for me.

It seems like Splatoon is on pretty much every list. It hasn't won any overall awards, but it seems to be somewhere on most lists.

If you watched their content all year long, you'd be pretty confident that Witcher 3 and Bloodborne were the two likely, so I like how they weren't secret about it in this video. Glad to see Bloodborne, the marvel of design, came on top.

If we just gave it to the highest scoring game, well that would be pretty silly. Reviews are very personal. GOTY is very committee.

Bloodborne is objectively the best game of the year. You might like another game more and that's fine, but no game achieved its ambitions with such a level of simultaneous reckless ambition and graceful poise.

^out of the games I played anyways, which includes all frequent noms aside from starcraft and undertale

I cringed a little bit. I thought we all agreed you're only supposed to use this word ironically.

lol, love the arrogance.

Still, can't go wrong with a lot of games this year, for various reasons, which i guess speaks to the year we had.

I'm more in disagreement with the best RPG category, as i've mentioned in the GT thread.

That word doesn't mean what you think it means.

That may have shaken down that way at times, but it was certainly never a rule or we'd have never had such long crazy discussions.

Loved watching through all their awards stuff and personal picks.

Great coverage from GT all year, their Until Dawn pajama party was some good stuff. Cheers to GT and keep up the good work.

One of the best games of the year and my top 5 of all time. Bloodborne is a masterpiece and definitely deserves this award. Congrats to From Software!

taco bells are objectively the best car wash

See? I can also say shit that makes no fucking sense.

I feel like the lean launch hurt Splatoon's perception a bit. If it launched content complete may have been a different story.

Great choice. Not surprised, as I think that Bloodworth had a lot of staff flak stacked against him when he was trying to figure out what score to give Witcher 3 - and the fact that even Kyle joined in on the fun speaks volumes about the game!

That said, would really like to see how the votes rolled out to get a sense of where the staff fell. The way I could see it going down, in a head-to-head situation:

Witcher 3:
- Blood
- Don?

Bloodborne:
- IAN HINCK!
- Kyle
- Brad
- Ben
- Huber
- Brandon
- Matt

Didn't the video say it split the office down the middle? I guess Jones was the deciding vote?

It did, but I really don't see who from the Bloodborne side would say W3. I don't think Ben would go with Witcher; neither would Brad or Huber. Ian has openly stated he doesn't like the Witcher combat and wrote that amazing Bloodborne musical. That leaves Kyle - who I don't think has played Witcher 3 yet - and Matt, who, to be honest, I wasn't sure where to put!

EDIT: Blood comes in with the deets! Thanks, Blood!

Saying anything is objectively the best game of the year is just never going to work, especially considering you admitted to having not played every game. In fact I'd say Undertale has more "reckless ambition and graceful poise" than Bloodborne if you take the team size ratio into account.

Bayonetta 2 has the highest score last year and did not win. Single reviewer vs. staff consensus.
