I kinda agree with ricochetguro about Grim Fandango, not going as far as saying it's a really bad game, but I never understood why people think it's one of the best, then again opinions and all that.

It was the pinnacle of that genre. If you think it was terrible, you didn't like that genre. Which is fair, because I don't like that genre either. But it's a genre game, through and through.
The Monkey Island games or Sam and Max had no where near the same level of inane solutions that Grim Fandango and other games in the genre around that period do. There's a limit. I enjoy adventure games like Dracula Origins or the Myst series that can have incredibly difficult puzzles but are solved by exploring the environment or finding the solution in a book in a way that makes sense. Ie, in Dracula Origins you have to perform a blood transfusion so you actually go to a library and find a medical book that explains the procedure.

Not even close, almost every other LucasArts title was better and more fun :/

The pinnacle was maybe DOTT or Monkey Island 2, followed by Indy and MI1/3.
I probably would even say Full Throttle and even Maniac Mansion were way more fun than Grim.

I can't agree with you here, pinnacle of the genre it certainly is not, it's just an opinion. I know that that GF fans were always very vocal, but that doesn't mean they are right, or even majority.
I'm not even sure there is such a thing as pinnacle of any genre.

The Alien: Isolation thing for the Humble Monthly actually kinda screws over the people joining new this month, who should have gotten one of the games from the January bundle as a bonus, and instead just get an early release of a February game like all the repeat subscribers.

I guess that's fair, but I've never heard any complaints about it that couldn't be leveraged against every other game of the genre. And I hardly think anyone could seriously say it was the game that "killed the genre," there were far worse violators. Maybe it would be more fair to call it the "climax" of the genre.

Wait, no Alien Isolation in the monthly bundle? Heh, looks like people got screwed

In fairness, the number of people who bought due to the leak was undoubtably pretty small. And in retrospect, the way the leak page described the game should have been more obvious it wasn't in the January bundle, because it was a page being shown as an incentive to people who had already bought the January bundle.

considering the free game for subscribing had previously been from the bundle from the month before that does seem kinda shady to change all of a sudden

I wonder if that Alien "leak" was intentional to get some last minute subs for this bundle
I don't really see it as shady, more that they changed up the formula a bit for those complaining about it. Now you know one for sure thing in the next bundle, so if you want Alien you're paying the current steam sale price + 4-5 more games later.

Plus I think this bundle was pretty good.

So you want all these other great bundles to just not happen? Because that's really stupid. The "real" indie bundles happen exactly as often as they always have.

I'd be happier with some kind of middle ground. In 2015 we only had 2 humble indie bundles, versus double that amount in 2014. I mean the AAA-bundles and, to a lesser extent, the monthly bundles offer great value, but I just miss the real HIBs.

Aw man there was a bundle on BundleStar that had a few games I wanted and it was for $1.99 and I missed it XO

I went through my bundles to redeem a game on indiegala and it looks like i must have either bought or been given the wrong bundle as i have one that i have has no games that i ever wanted :(

This is kinda the most relevant topic I could find to post this in - To people with Cloud HyperX headsets, do you prefer the normal earmuffs (I think that's what they are called?) or the ones that come in the package?

Is the 1 or new 2 version? I ended up ordering the 1 yesterday.

Was/is there DLC for Dragons Dogma I should also pick up?

I agree that the bundle itself is good

I just think changing the rules without saying anything ahead of time is a poor way of doing business. They could have easily put out a blog post or something saying they'd be changing the rules about the game for subscribing.

Still there are some people that find themselves cheated because they thought they would get Alien Isolation because they saw the leak. And who are they going to blame? Not the one who posted the image of the leak, but Humble Bundle.

Although it's a good bundle with great games. Spelunky is a very fun game

i almost bought tomb raider 2013

this lack of dailies thing man, it's bad for me

Current Humble Bundle features Tomb Raider 2013

They still happen about every 3-4 months, we're just due for one soon (probably after the current bundle actually). I think it's just impossible to recreate the environment we had in 2011 when they started so it's easy to think things are worse now. Personally I have much less interest in the "mainline" humble bundles because I almost always already own a large part of them, and that's been true going back to Humble Bundle 5 or so. Plus, sales for the main bundles dropped off radically for the last few bundles so they may be re-evaluating them and doing them less often and trying to make them a bigger deal again.

I'd like to think most people who act based on leaks understand they might turn out to be inaccurate. I'd imagine the bigger annoyance is now they "have" to subscribe to the February bundle as well. But the end result will still be that they get Alien: Isolation today.

As for Grim Fandango being a climax of the genre, it has quite a renaissance with rise of indies, so even that is doubtful.

getting back to 52 games challenge for a while, I'm contemplating should I attempt it this year, I had something like 39 games finished in 2014 and whooping 74 in 2015, but the problem was often choosing short games just because of that challenge and falling behind strategy games and RPGs because of that and I want to play those games, but that means 52 games is not even remote possibility, decisions, decisions.

yeah but current humble bundle is terrible

what?

I replayed the Grim Fandango too recently and it was pretty much what I remembered: story, characters, voice acting, art direction and music are all top notch. Then you have the puzzles, which mostly a) make no sense b) require the use of the actual 3d planes (for example, the sign puzzle in chapter 2) or worst of all c) require strict timing (the cigarette puzzle in chapter 4).

I think there's a good reason why it could be considered the pinnacle of the genre (at the time mind you) as it did pretty much end the whole genre for years. The gameplay concepts just didn't work very well with the technologies they had at the time. At best it is one of the best point and click games out there, especially if you count out the pointing and clicking parts (!).

If I didn't have majority of the games I would totally buy the bundle

I have been in secret doing the 52 games challenge since I never talk about the challenge. I managed to beat 66 games in 2015. In 2014 I finished 55 games.

i never really spent much time playing tomb raider games but i don't have much interest on them anyways and all the rest is crap. maybe the match 3 games are cool, i dunno

it's probably a really good deal if you're already playing ff14 since u get a month's subscription for like 5 bucks? i dunno

why secrecy? why do you never talk about it? Talking is part of fun, although I did more reading in that thread than talking myself
lol

Anyway
so are you going to attempt it this year too?

TLR is certainly not bad, kinda or not
And in general I so deeply don't agree with you, that can't be bothered to argue, I mean this bundle is bad only for those of us that have all games and many do, but even then it's not terrible for new people, quite contrary

Holiday badge sale progress: 6 of card 1, 7 of card 7, 6 of card 11, haven't gotten a card 4 yet.
Wow, talk about bad luck. So far I crafted two whole badges and only need three more cards (hopefully will get them now) for the third! And I also got one foil card, too! I'm so lucky!!
...
..
.
Hope my luck makes it easier to swallow your bad luck lol
Really looking forwarding to playing all these fine games I purchased.

I just want to wish you guys a happy new year. I haven't been around because of teaching and because my nephew currently has the account, but I hope everything's going well.
Long time no see speevmeister. Thanks for the nice wishes and likewise, have a great new year and good health. Teach those little brats good things :)

The Last Remnant isn't kind of bad silly, I should replay it on the PC. Remember it being the first game I installed on my 360 back in the day because it was nigh unplayable otherwise.

Is that Front Mission game actually terrible? I've never played anything from the series, it's always been one of those things that was around for years (I remember people working on a translation of the SNES game long ago) and I've been curious about.

Then just spend the 4 bucks on TR2013 on Steam? GOTY version is worthless anyway, nearly all the DLC in there is MP stuff.

well for one it's nothing like Front Mission and even of the wrong genre, that's why most haven't even played it still, me included, it probably isn't that good regardless, because if it was, we would have heard about it by now.

It's a really mediocre Armored Core clone but the biggest problem people have with it is it's nothing like the very complex sprg games in the franchise. Weird thing to bring the franchise back with, although apparently SE is making a new one again.
*you still got loads of games that were already discounts heavily or bundled several times.

Humble Monthly has a terrible value proposition. Old main Humble Indie Bundles were much better for half the price.
Mushroom 11's lowest sale price is 10 dollars. One of the best games of the year and going by the ownership stats a new game for almost everyone who subscribes. Exactly the kind of game they should be highlighting.

Yeah, aren't most Front Mission games turn based tactical games? Reading the store page this sounds completely different.

Eh, if the leak had been Mushroom 11 I'm sure tons of people would have jumped on it, maybe even more than did so for Alien since Alien was widely available pretty cheap around here due to the video card bundles.

i guess it's cheaper than the tomb raider collection on steam, tho i guess that comes with tomb raiders 4 through 6 too so it's kind of debatable

but yeah i still contend tlr is a mediocre jrpg and that's the only noteworthy thing to me in that list (again unless the match 3 games are really good, i really don't know much about that genre), so i don't think this is too good unless you want like a dozen tomb raider games you'll never play

i also don't like just cause whatsoever so you know..

yeah, i would never buy this very lame bundle :>

yeah, they were

they were awesome

and now they're dead
