Well it does deserve a thread but of course it's going to be filled with talk of ticket sales, inflation, 3D, and worldwide numbers talk. Basically, the exact same discussion that already happened in this thread.

And a bunch of people driving by to hate on it in some usually hyperbolic wy like implying Disney has made Star Wars too commercial.

There are threads like this all the time. Go to gaming to see a monthly US only sales thread.
Gaming side isn't OT.

We are too cultured around here.

Nope. A domestic thread on a international website doesn't make much sense.

What will you be saying when Cameron follows the 40 year tradition of taking out a full page ad in Variety to pass the boxoffice king crown to JJ Abrams? Because he most defiantly will since tradition has always been this handing off of the baton has been based on the domestic #1 title, and Cameron is going to follow that tradition.

The focus of the industry has been domestic records.

Except the media and the film industry ALWAYS place more importantance in domestic records.

Whoa sir, WHOA. JJ will get a conference finals hat. Cameron still has the Larry O'Brien.

Assuming Cameron follows tradition, I'll give JJ his props for not dropping a deuce on the celluloid like Lucas did.

Not as big as the previous thread, but almost 3000 posts again. Way over 6000 combined.

The only time I see anything generating so many posts is maybe Avatar 2 (specially if it performs less than amazingly :P).

Domestic or worldwide? Worldwide is probably already happening or will very shortly. Domestic might start seeing Avatar ahead on some days this week. Probably by this weekend.

Domestic. Worldwide doesn't really look like it will matter at this point in terms of comparisons. Lol.

Depends on where this weekends hold shakes out and how the back to school/work weekdays hold up. Avatar's 4th weekend was 50 mil, so if TFA is 95+ this weekend, I would say there is a good chance it stays ahead until the 5th weekend (Avatar's was 42mil which is where the insane legs really kicked into gear)

Saw it a third time last night in 3D IMAX. It was full besides the front row or two and this was the 11:10 PM showing. We tried earlier but every showing in 2D, 3D and 3D IMAX was still selling out.

I think episode VIII will also produce a huge thread. Otherwise maybe something like batman or captain America performing unexpectedly, either in terms of high or low BO numbers.

No matter how much people say these estimations are accurate, I can't be doing with the use of the past tense when there's still most of Sunday to go! Say "will have taken" instead of "took"!

Yeesh, not even 90 mil...

Not so sure my 1 bil prediction is going to happen now. But it's still going to hit 2 bil worldwide with ease.

$88m? Flop.
