I wonder if Tretton or House knew what he was doing - surely House did. Though he massacred it (so did Yoshida on first attempt).

It means that the ps4 is at the level Gohan was at when he fought cellPS4 in beast mode. What does this mean in DBZ terms?

Any Xbox 1 estimations?
So, any bets as to where on that list (Top 10 December NPD for home consoles) the PS4 will be placed?
1) Wii - 3,810,000 ( December 2009)
2) PS2 - 2,733,000 (December 2002)
3) Wii - 2,360,000 (December 2010)
4) Wii - 2,150,000 (December 2008)
5) PS2 - 1,971,000 (December 2001)
6) PS2 - 1,970,000 (December 2003)
7) 360 - 1,860,000 (December 2010)
8) 360 - 1,700,000 (December 2011)
9) PS2 - 1,500,000 (December 2005)
10) 360 - 1,440,000 (December 2008)
I'm gonna say #8
Impressive comeback.
I think at this point, people need to stop pointing to Microsofts fuck ups and pretending that Sony is selling so much out of pure luck.
Why is the PS4 selling so much?
Because for once all the cogs of Sony are turning together and playstation is a global brand that even on name alone, means more around the world than Xbox or Nintendo.
Its really as simple as that.
Which also included the PS2, that arguably had a significant portion of its install base due to people buying the thing as a cheap DVD player.
Great numbers. I expect 50k by this time next year.
Totally agree, that time was so much fun. The hype machine was at top speed and there was so much excitement for the new consoles. GAF was an animal house from Feb - Dec 2013. Lots of laughs, tears, and salt.

Assuming PS4 is at or around 40 million when PSVR launches, I'm actually pretty confident in it making a splash, at least initially, provided Sony doesn't shit the bed with the pricing.
No, I explained why I feel the platform is weak for me personally at this moment instead of just saying "it has no games!" which is non-sense.
I don't think the proper response to something like that is to go "lol salt" either though.
I'm curious how this year will affect Japan. You've got Naruto and Street Fighter coming out within a week of each other. Then you have DOA Xtreme 3 a little over a week later. That could provide a decent bump in Japan.
Damn Gina! Now it passed the N64 final sale figure.
Next is SNES at 49 million.
Forgetting FF XV and Persona 5 during the summer/fall season.
Forgetting Final Fantasy XV and Persona 5 during the summer/fall season.
Hmm...don't be so judgmental. Sports, Brands, Promotions, getting laid, lots of things make people feel good, none of which makes you pathetic. Some people seriously have no life at all. Getting all worked up because a console is selling well. What kind of sad and pathetic life must you live ?
Your bias is showing. Some people's GOTY was Until Dawn, Rocket League, Transistor or Resogun. The age of AAA being the titles that matter the most are over. Remember PT? It was downloaded over a million times and was all anyone talked about for months on PS4. A scary 30 minute demo! This is the biggest reason why the PS4 is so successful, though I don't think you're quite right about MS not targeting high end graphics as the reason. I'm not a fanboy by any means but the whole "PS4 has no games" is very understandable to me. PS4 has yet to have a God of War, Gran Turismo, New Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance or Jak & Daxter game. Granted some of those are coming out but Nintendo has already pushed out a ton of first party titles and Microsoft has had 3 Forza titles, Halo 5, a Gears of War Remaster, a collection of Rare Games, Killer Instinct, Titan Fall, & Sunset Overdrive. The core of Playstation 4's exclusives has either not come out yet or quickly forgetten (Knack, Killzone Shadow Fall). There are outliers like Bloodborne and Until Dawn but the most hyped PS4 games are not out yet (Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, The Last Gaurdian, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5) and some won't be out for a very long time like Shenmue 3 or FF VII Remake.
How many sales did Sony get from fans that knew "eventually" they would need a PS4. Supporting a platform for a long times builds more fans, fans buy stuff, even when it's not very good. Sony could have ported over all those games to PS4, but it was certainly a wise decision IMO to have that strong 2013 for PS3.The lack of context in the usual #nogames argument is pretty ridiculous on a forum that is so-called a nexus for hardcore gamers. We are barely over 2 years into the generation. Surely everyone can see that Sony choosing to support the PS3 until the end(LITERALLY) of last generation. On top of that, a few studios were sent to support the Vita(say what you will about Sony's support of it, but games were made that took resources).
Sure, they could have saved God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Gran Turismo 6, Puppeteer, Rain, Beyond: Two Souls(pub), Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus(pub), Gravity Rush, and the resources for Killzone: Mercenary, Uncharted: GA, etc. all for PS4, but then there would have been a huge outcry about cutting support and letting their system(s) coast just like there was for the 360/Wii. I'm fine with the way things turned out, and IMO it builds goodwill knowing that support won't get cut early, even if it takes a little while to get into the full swing of things.
My last point, is that a game being available on more than one system doesn't make it automatically disappear from the list of available games on other systems. They should count for all systems they're available on, not the other way around. We who own all 6 current platforms are in the extreme minority, and most of the industry doesn't revolve around catering to us.
Well said. Dreams, Rime, TLG, Tomorrow Children, along with the strong Japanese support create a very diverse lineup. It's really not about the big AAA experiences anymore. This is some of the good things that smartphone and tablet gaming has done, it has created a more diverse gamer. We are still due this gen for another Minecraft moment '-)Well damn Sony.
All in all, I feel bad for those who have limited taste and blame the lack of first party exclusive (but ironically won't acknowledge that their lack of taste is really the problem with the output) on third party partnerships.
Imo, Sony has done a great job in not just giving AAA but giving (what they do best) diversed experiences. Everything doesn't have to be an AAA and everything doesn't have to be the small bit but they have done a good job in at least trying to fit in everything for the lack of their big showing which is coming out for this year.
On top of that, I liked that they recognized that for some, it is disappointing compared to other years but at the same time, keeping close with partners to make sure all content that is being released.. Is done at least to a higher degree whether that be graphically, technically and giving those resources for that.
Congrats I guess.
GT along with Crash are the IP I thought I would always see from Sony. Like Mario, Crash can become almost anything, and basically be a gateway to gameplay mechanics and experimental development. GT is cars, cars never get old. Little Big Planet was something I could see Sony making a franchise, but the way MM gave it off to other developers after LPB2, I guess they had other plans. I don't think you need a bunch of IP like Nintendo, but I do think Sony needs a few more franchises.yep. Uncharted has basically become Sony's Halo, for all intents and purposes, but Sony seems to be respecting ND's wishes of letting Uncharted have a peaceful rest. Maybe they'll get revisit it in the future but it will be a different uncharted.
there may or may not be a franchise to come out of tlou and if there is, I don't see it going passed a trilogy or a tetralogy, either. horizon zero dawn is pretty much named like it is going to become a franchise, though.
However...the one ship sony continues to sale is gran turismo, lol. although perhaps it lost a bit of momentum with GT6, this'll be one IP sony will probably pump out for every console they have.
Great numbers. I expect 50k by this time next year.
What makes the whole argument about luck so wrong is apparent in what could be argued is an error in your wording.I think at this point, people need to stop pointing to Microsofts fuck ups and pretending that Sony is selling so much out of pure luck.

Whether or not the PS4 deserves that success is kinda like asking if iOS deserved to become the worlds biggest operating system.
Both have happened because their makers read the market better than their competition and brownie points on forums dont pay the bills.

What would be a good price for you?
Does this mean ps4 outsold xboxs LTD just this year?
Yep, 2009 was when they hit their stride. The $299 price drop, Kevin Butler marketing campaign, games like Uncharted 2/Demon's Souls, etc. And it continued into early 2010 with Heavy Rain and GoWIII.I actually think Sony's real impressive comeback was with the PS3.

You say "for once" when in fact more accurately the situation is "for the third time all the cogs of Sony"...
Sony sold more consoles 2 gens out of three and is looking like a lock they're going to make it 3 out of 4 with PS4.
Guess they're good at manufacturing luck.

They built up a lot of momentum for the PS4 with the turnaround of the PS3.
Amazing figures.
But expected and predicted for most GAFers here.
(for PSVR)
For me it's £250 to £300, so about $300 to $400 (absolute max) for folk in the US.
Great numbers. I expect 50k by this time next year.
I think 100 million LTD is a lock at this point. I am really interested to see the affect of VR on PS4 sales next year.
