You ever bought a boxed Game/Figure at a Flea Market and it was something else?

I like to buy a lot at flea markets. You can find all kinds of gems and classics there for ridiculously low prices, like the time I got Super Mario RPG for $5 or Conker Bad Fur Day for $20.

But what happens when your purchase goes... wrong? This poor guy bought a boxed Yarn Yoshi Amiibo bundle for $20 and got... this:

Has this ever happened to you? Not exactly this yoshi, but buying a game or game related article and when opening it or actually have it run on your system for it to be something completely different.

When I was younger I used to buy Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! blind packs, but whenever I bought at a particular place in the flea market close to my house somehow all of them sucked and rarely I got a rare one, I later own learned that the owner actually carefully opened them, replace the rare ones for common ones, sealed them back in (I believe they used a hair dryer) and sold the rare ones by themselves.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

We bought a disc with 700 DOS games on it from the flea market that said it had Street Fighter...turns out it was some weird HK hack with Terry and Andy Bogard.

Not exactly what you're asking for, but...

My friend bought The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap for GBA off gamestop's website. It turns out someone had peeled off the Minish Cap sticker and put it on another cart--Lilo & Stitch.

This is actually pretty close to what I was asking. Don't Gamestop check the games?

The guy can at least take solace in the fact that a GAF thread was made about his experience.

Who can put a price on that kind of Internet notoriety?

There was a manufacturing error with Quake 3 later in its shelf life that resulted in some boxes/discs containing the expansion Team Arena rather than Quake 3 proper. My luck being what it is, I of course bought one such copy -- BNIB from a retailer, no less.

Going to go with no. The same friend also got a gba copy of Harvest Moon from gamestop that, while properly labelled, had been so thoroughly chewed up by some animal that it wouldn't fit in a gba.

I think your friend should be the one checking his games before buying them.

I can't blame him, I bought Mario Tennis Gamecube and the disk won't load and I was too lazy to replace it. That is how Gamestop makes its money.

I don't have enough clap gifs to answer to that Yoshi, OP.

EDIT: Ohhhh almost forgot it. There was this time where i bought a Justice League's cartoon DVD on this fly's market, and when i got home and tried to watch it, it was actually porn (and a pretty bizarre one, it was settled in this dark club, and with really loud electronic music). You could say that 7 year's old MP got quite shocked... It has nothing to do with video games but i thought it would be relevant lol.

I bought Zone of the Enders with the MGS 2 demo wayyy back in the day new and "sealed" from Circuit City, and it contained a Friday DVD and some random rap CD.

Thankfully, I was an eager 12 year old and wanted to read the manual in the car, that's when I discovered the "swap". Yeah... it took quite a bit of coaxing and arguing to get another copy of the game from Circuit City. =/

I'm guessing someone bought the game, carefully unsealed it, swapped out the goods, resealed, and returned it. Considering this is the only game I bought with my PS2 purchase, I was pretty hesitant to get another game for a while.

OP THAT SHIT IS AMAZING! You keep that. Its a testiment to the human spirit.

I bought a game from a store where the box was gutted and instead of getting the dreamcast disc in the dreamcast box I got the ps1 version disc, had to travel on bus all the way back into town to sort it out.

now I check stuff before I head home just in case but I usually order online now so...

Holy shit, I have been laughing for a couple minutes now, that is most pathetic, terrible looking Yoshi I've ever seen, I almost wouldn't be mad if I got that because of the effort that went into making that thing.

Don't do that shit with games.

When I was young it was a mystery box.

Do you want ultimate muscle for the Gamecube in a box for Counter-Strike for Xbox?

Do you want that new N64 Baseball game and want to end up with Rogue Squadron?

How about Billy Hatcher for GCN only to get Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles?

The flea market is for you!

sounds like you won on all 3 of those tho

Was at a thrift store recently and they had star Fox assault, got super excited but the disc inside was metroid prime.

I got a copy of Need for Speed Underground for the PS2 this summer and got home to find the disc for both the first and second in there.

Years ago I bought a copy of MX Superfly for the Gamecube, and there was a cut-out of an ad from a magazine featuring some rather skimpily dressed women inside.

My dad bought me a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the GBA from a GameStop in NYC. Turns out someone had switched the label and it was a dragon ball z fighting game. He was really pissed when we had to go back and exchange it, lol.

Not a flea market but several years back I bought (what I was thinking at the time) Yakuza 3 from Gamestop. Inside the case when I got home was actually Yakuza 4. I didn't return it and instead enjoyed the game immensely.

So now I have a Yakuza 3 case with a Yakuza 4 disc inside it.

I bought a Street Fighter Alpha 3 cabinet and it had the X-Men Vs Street Fighter CPS2 cart inside of it as well.

That's kind of the same thing, right?
