Xbox One at 18 million (activated units)

Everyone quoted it wrong. There is 18 million active units not 18 million activated units. Microsoft determines an active unit as being used within the last 28 days. So it is most likely slightly more than 18 million.

If I remember correctly, all X1's still need to connect to the internet on start up, correct? If not, then 18 million is the bare minimum amount of consoles sold, since that amount would be composed of only people who decided to take their machine online.
Dont you mean "bare maximum"? I have an extremely hard time believing XBO is over 18 million sold-through worldwide. I personally thought it closer to 16-17 million at this point, but 18 million sounds reasonable too.

That's being quite generous, though.

My favorite part of the article is how 35.9 million got rounded down to 35 million.
So these guys can't even do basic math?

Oh, that sudden twist! :)

This is actually more than I thought. I was pretty certain Microsoft stood at around 17 mil.

Million zombies killed
Billions bullet fired
MAU
W10 activated

These new metrics for console sales are fascinating.

Mary Jo didn't predict or estimate. She said a source in MS told her that of the 200 million active W10 devices, 180 million were pcs, 18 million were Bones, and 2 million were phones and other devices. Again, she said this came from a source within MS.

"While this is not official, it is reliable and probably the best we are going to get since Microsoft won’t talk."

That didn't sound like it..

Either way it still doesn't say a whole lot in terms of accurate sales figures, but if 18M is accurate then console sales will probably be around 19-20M. Not every single console has been turned on in the last 2 months and downloaded the update, if that was true there'd be no used stock anywhere.

Pathetic they decided not to report numbers any more, instead useless online data.

Not sure how this is pathetic. Raw sales numbers would be higher than 18 million. That is 18 million pretty active users.

I have an Xbox One with five controllers and over a dozen games, with the Win 10 update, but haven't turned it on in the past 28 days because I've been replaying Uncharted collection and grinding N++ on ps4. So I wouldn't even be counted.

So, estimates which are heavily rounded at best, so don't tell us anything really except probably somewhere between 15 and 20 million.

Well, I believe she also said in that podcast that the number of active devices was from the last 28 days, not 2 months.

So going by how they rounded 35.9 million down to 35 Million I'm guessing they either rounded 17.1 million up to 18 million or 18.9 million down to 18 million.

So the X1 sold between 17.1 - 18.9 million

Now I think the numbers are completely made up.
Because it is a complete disaster for Microsoft if they managed to sell only 2 million smartphones and Surfaces in the past couple of months (and that's presuming none of the older purchases upgraded).

bare minimum? I mean yes it's the floor level if that's what you mean, but the amount of people not taking an xbox online would be what like 1% maybe? We have had multiple threads of people stating their games didn't work without an update so I'm pretty sure the number would be very small.

I'm sure you meant that, but saying "bare minimum" makes it sound like there's a range, I don't think there's much range there.

Update: A company spoksperson confirmed the 200 million figure includes Xbox One consoles. And "active" means Windows 10 devices that have been "active" in the last 28 days, the spokesperson said.

So that doesn't mean much. Sorry guis.

I'm not suggesting these numbers are exact, but do you think MS doesnt have analytics that tell them exactly the number of unique devices that have touched their services over the last 28 days?

Surface would be considered a pc. And 2 million W10M devices would be pretty good, lol. Especially since the 950s were too expensive and only available from ATT unless you paid full price from a MS store.

Great numbers for XB1. They really managed to turn it around after the rocky start. Best OS updates in the industry. Competition is a good thing.

EDIT: This is for US only, right?

does this even make a difference? apart from the UK it's not like anyone else is buying it.

I don't think it would have had an impact at all

yeah nothing was saving the xbox one launch. That thing was a disaster.

While Microsoft has conveniently decided not to share sales figures any more, some statistics revealed recently suggest that so far they have managed to sell 18 million Xbox Ones.

And yes, thankfully that figure is for consoles sold, and not shipped.

So, this number here...is not an official press release by MS? I mean, if it's wrong, and it could very well be, there is no reason to refute it because it's not official, but a leak. And if it is true, there's not reason to verify because, again, not official.

So, pretty useless rumor, all in all.

Most people I know has not turned on their Xbones in the last 28 days. So Microsoft has probably sold more than double the amount of activated units, right? I would guess they have a slight edge on Sony and the PS4.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Surface devices would be in the PC category, and win10 mobile hasn't been launched officially yet, so these numbers could very well be real.

2/10. must try harder.

Nah not double. I think overall its sits arround 20 to 21 million units sold. Wich is pretty good in a world were PS4 exist.
Edit: Wait its sarcasm probably. :P
