Xbox One at 18 million (activated units)

no rant intended was genuine question as it seems to pop up a lot in other threads with a lot of people saying they own both

I did not mean you, no worries. It's the people adding these words before pooping on the other console.
Technically the same rhetorical construct as "I am no racist, but...".
It's even a slot on our bingo card.

At this pace at +50 mil in the end....., big NO!

Anyway ( not referring to him ).

If X360 is outshipped by Xbone at the same point ( that means >17.7 ), it's impossible for Xbone to be sold-trough at 20 mil. Xbone doesn't have such a good shipped/sold-trough ratio like PS4 ( for example 2015 Q2 29.3 mil. shipped ( end of the October ), sold-trough 30.2 mil. end of the November )

Huh?

It went from 10 shipped to over 20 shipped using this. The xbox would only have to sell around flat for 3 years to ship over 50, but we know itll do more with big games, deals, and price cuts.

Don't they update the consoles with the latest firmware as they manufacture them?

What does that mean?

Officially? I don't think so. But it seems quite reasonable to think that any console sold since say, mid-2014, has had the DRM-free firmware factory installed. So therefore I doubt any new Xbox needs to connect at all. I guess a quick way to find out would be to ask someone who's recently bought one whether they needed to update or not.

That's what they were saying in June 2013. Surely the newer consoles come with the update preinstalled. It'd be pretty stupid if they didn't.

Just asked one friend of mine who bought a Xbone 2 weeks ago. He had to do a mandatory update. Only after mandatory update he was able to enter the dashboard.

So, that 18 million activated consoles looks very likely sold-trough. You can't use the Xbone if you don't download mandatory update.

When was Win 10 update?

I'm two of those 18 million as I had two xboxs in the last 28 days. Bought a new Xbox because my drive was making a clunking sound (went 2 and half years without buyin a physical Xbox game and when I did I found out my drive had been broken all along)

I can't believe that buying an entire machine would cost less than getting a replacement drive (or even insisting that Microsoft fix the issue for free given that the drive was shipped broken). I got a free replacement PS3 back when I was unlucky enough to swap my hard drive during the fortnight or so when doing that would brick your system, and it was at least four years old at that point.

I agree. There aren't many unupdated consoles out there. Not enouogh that it makes a difference, at least.

The update was back in november, as far as I remember.
