Xbox One at 18 million (activated units)

Now that you think about it, 18 million Xbox One devices being connected to the internet in 28 days period sounds like an insane number. That would mean Xbox has some serious active population or XBO install-base is way bigger than we thought.

Nah. I haven't played a game on my Xbox One since Halo launch week, but I still turn it on nearly every day.

Ding ding ding!

I doubt 18M PS4's connected online within a 28 day period yet.

These are some great numbers for the Xbox. Could see them catching up near the end of the generation if they keep up this blistering pace.

I know there's still a portion of people that don't connect their consoles online but do Xbox one games have system updates on disc or is online mandatory at this point, at least for firmware?

These consoles aren't just game machines. Why do you think MS went the entertainment route at the beginning?

I can't even tell if folks are joking anymore.

Also, I remember that my 2:1 prediction was laughed at back around 2013. Back when it was the Xbox Infinity.

The big question is, how many of those units are display units in stores?

Given that i think xbone is bellow 17 mills, worldwide ofcourse!

Ok just kidding, until we receive an official statement from MS all we can do is speculate on the exact number!

Yeah...no. We need some hard evidence. I'm not going with this soft spin. The numbers don't match up with what we currently know about the Xbox One install base and how highly concentrated it is in the US market. After next week's NPD the picture should be a bit clearer.

This Gen is going to be fun. On one side we have MS who took an L for creating the fiasco in 2013 with the XB1 and on the other, Sony who already took three Ls (PSVita, PSVue and PSnow).

This Gen is going to be a roller-caster.

Xbox One is doing fine and people here freaking out loool

Console will sell 30m by this year´s end or more, 30m active users is alot, buying dlc and stuff, sure is not 60 milion like ps4 will probably boast but it is a very respectfull number.

Since this will be a very long gen (2019 earliest) we still have 4 years left of sales, 60/70m when all its said and done will be amazing for Xbox One since all the bad things that happened to the brand, i was expecting less.

Ps4 will end with >100milion yes and will be the real winner but Xbox will have amazing games, a big fanbase and best of all, great exclusives!
brah..that is not happening, where are all these millions coming from?

Now U.S/UK is going to sell 3/4 of that 70 million X1's?

I looked at Foley's article and the Windows blog. They do say that 200 million installations have been activated since launch, but I can't find where it says that 18 million Xbox One devices were active in a 28 day period. Help me find it?

PSVita I could see, but lumping in PSVue and PSNow on the same level as the xbox one reveal shitstorm? PSVue and PSNow haven't set the world on fire but they haven't been huge disasters either

The article states that out of the 220 million devices which were online in the last 28 days, 18 million were Xbox's. So there's also the Xbox's which haven't upgraded and the ones which simply weren't online.

How many is that is no idea. I don't see how it was comedy gold?
What would the # of X1's offline realistically be man?

Do you believe that's a significant number? Because it sounds like 90% digital talk lol...

Not really. This generation completely over in terms of the dominant market leader. NX could definitely make things interesting though.

Unless you remove it from power supply or disconnect from Internet Xbone is connected to Internet.

Same for PS4... it always connected to Internet in standby.

It is possible double that because PS4 is always connected in standby.

Yeah this rollercoaster is crazy because of..ps...vue.

Just a 2 cent response to folks pointing out that even Halo didn't noticeably shrink the gap.

Well, that's kinda unsurprising. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making any statements about the quality of Halo games. The problem is that Halo as a franchise is now a couple console generations old, has had numerous entries in the franchise, and hasn't really been able to reinvent itself in any highly significant way.

Especially early in a consoles lifespan, consumers buy machines based on potential, and which machine they think is going to provide an exciting new experience. At this point Halo wasn't going to do that.

hmmm? What? Now optional services that's not even available in all regions still in beta form are failures?

Vita, flopped man, that's about it from Sony this gen.

nah, Halo is still big, I think the devs just don't know how to capture a new audience. The brand itself is still powerful.

That and Halo has stiffer competition COD, Battlefront, Battlefield and most importantly imo Destiny.

WTF?

The gap increased not shrunk.

Last year gap was about 10m... this year is about 16m.

About Halo they need to back to old days Halos...

Unless this comes from MS mouth I am not going to believe it, no way they are 18 million sold through, the console is dead outside of NA/Uk, where the fuck did the additional numbers come from ?

What is with it and publishers/ companies that dont want to share sales data anymore? Yeah youre not in first place but its not like every product you produce is going to meet sales expectations. It would be much more convenient for consumers to see how many consoles or games sell but now its like they are ashamed if it doesnt compare to past installments.

how do you figure halo is still big? halo 5 sales were pretty lackluster for a halo game
Yeah, but I meant if they were to reinvent the wheel more and make something as exciting as Destiny or COD did on there debut, Halo would still sell astronomically, moreso than other highly rated games. The brand is still powerful, it would have moved a lot more Xbones if Halo was the new "best multi-player" experience. Star Wars, COD, Destiny definitely offering what Halo used to have pretty much on lock.

Every Xbox One and PS4 that is in standby mode and has an Internet connection makes daily connections to Xbox Live and PSN servers right? You don't have to physically turn your system on to register as a device that connected in the past 28 days. Our consoles in standby mode are always talking to the home servers.

I hear ya but we don't really know that. for all we know they could totally reinvent halo and alienate it's fans and still sell poorly

Its weird that we equate the console being dead outside of the US/UK to selling zero consoles ltd outside of the US/UK. It's available in over 60 countries.

If you're connected to the internet, is it really hard to fathom that XB1 had 18m people connect in the past 28 days world wide?

Hell the PS4 is double that.

Especially with the default settings where it checks for updates and such from MS servers even when turned off.

To be fair, Halo 5 is the best Halo multiplayer has been since 2. Having said that, I think there needs to be a shakeup in the franchise. I wouldn't even mind an fps spinoff.

That is true and I don't deny that, but I rather be the company with one L than three and a potential one (PSVR).

Anyway, I'm just laughing at both sides. The fact that one piece of info can turn people here into wild dogs is funny.

Yeah this rollercoaster is crazy because of..ps...vue.

It's the best thing about PlayStation.

Unless that 28 days period covers the holidays and every xbone sitting on standby.
