Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

I feel bad for the runner with all those fumbles, but I'm glad he's not letting it get to him and is aiming to entertain people with this run.

I've only played a little Crash Bandicoot, but I've never been able to figure out if it seems like a *fun* game or not.
Ive recently played crash 1 & 2 for the first time and they're fun but challenging. Especially crash 1. It has the most insane saving system which I never seen mentioned before for the game. You can only save by 1) getting to a bonus round and 2) completing bonus round. You don't even get to save after boss fights.

Also crash feels like the first like the most 2D 3D plat former I've played. It's tight levels and plat forming precision and limited use of 3D space

I think it's funny how some runners are like:

"Yeah, we're not entirely sure why this happens, but it works."

While other runners are like:

"Yeah, I turn left here, shoot this wall, do a backflip, and suddenly I'm at the final boss, and here's exactly why that happens."

The save system in Crash 1 is by far its biggest flaw and the main reason I think it's a far weaker game than Crash 2.

Also, if you watched the run just now, it's got some really really really bullshit hidden paths. Like, "invisible platforms with absolutely no indication of where they are" kind of bullshit.

I just realized there are no Doom or Quake runs this year (or doom-likes such as Heretic), makes me a little sad. Or is that just done for SGDQ?

I've always found PSX games a little hard to watch/play due to the z-buffer thing. The 'shaking polygons' always looked horrible to me, to the point where I'd take the blurry textures of the N64 over it. Might have been due to me being a PC gamer when the N64/PSX coming out (never owned either) and PSX games looking super buggy due to that shakiness. N64 games just looked behind the times, but not as janky.

honestly the graphics aren't that bad, but the game/level design, also character design are just not good

I don't want to know what he's done in that suit

No disagreement here. I've always felt the same way, but I've blamed my bad eyesight for it. I can appreciate the games for what they are, but on a non-tube TV, they're hard for me to watch.

I have to admit the hivemind whirlwind of memes that is Twitch chat is actually kind of hypnotic to watch. Especially hung over.

I see the TASBot block coming up later, I can't remember if I've watched these in the past. What can be expected from these, are they all just automated gameplay?

I've tried so many times to figure out exactly what happens in twitch chat but it seems like there's no consistency. Is it really just the all out mess of spam or are people actually doing stuff in a group type design with other random people that I'm not understanding?

Other than the times when obviously big things happen in the stream, the chat just seems to be a mess of misc nonsense.

Insanity. I don't really enjoy them

mostly meme crap like pokémon plays twitch
don't feel bad about missing it
Sounds good. Probably check out the first just to see what it's all about.

It's just one big hivemind that shares similar interests in fads, meme's, whatever. Easily influenced by trends because of the large population spamming stuff. Imagine like going to a concert and everyone starts shouting the same thing and everyone sharing a similar idea. It's sort of like that.

But of course there's half of them with racist and negative opinions and you can see that whenever it happens

If you see Super Mario World come up though, watch it. It's sure to be entertaining.

Also everyone saying twitch chat is unreadable, of course it is. Anytime a thousand+ people are in a room typing out responses in unison, it's going to be messy.

Sweet ass runs, excited for Shovel Knight!

It's mostly abit of both, I think it's worth watching to give an idea how speedrunners learn all about frames and shit. The other thing about speed running of course is practice, practice and practice.

Just finished Plague Knight run (100%) a couple of days ago. If anything, it's even better than the original Shovel Knight. IMO, it's more difficult and the platforming is more demanding (the two major faults of the original game).

Really looking forward to this run =)

I never did beat Shovel Knight and after just a few minutes of watching these guys warming up, I'm of the opinion I missed out on a lot. Really have to go back and finish that game. Think I unlocked about 8-10 different areas on the map.

You arent that far from the end then. It was my GOTY when it released. Also best soundtrack of all time.

OF ALL TIME!!!

It's an incredible game with an amazing soundtrack, what are you waiting for?

Devs are barely talking or being talked to though :/

I know its hard to juggle the commentary and the dev talk but it still feels like a missed opportunity.

It could be more but a lot of people have to get air time, from the runners to the couch commenters to the devs to the donation guy. The last two stages they've had a lot of good dev comments.
