Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

I remember one year at SGDQ I think where the stream continued for like a week after the even ended with people just coming on and playing random games. It was really fun! Whatever happened to that? Just too expensive to get the hotel for all that extra time?

Yeah, that was cool. Some of the stuff wasn't very good, but the fun of it was that you never knew what you were gonna get.

Bonus streams usually start the day after GDQ from what I remember. Unless they specifically said they weren't doing a bonus stream this year?

Oh, I have no idea if they are or aren't this time, I just don't think I remember seeing one for the last event or two so I figured they might've stopped doing that.

It's all ogre now. Goodbye AGDQ! Would say I'm looking forward to SGDQ, but probably gonna miss a good chunk of that due to it taking place around the 4th. Looking forward, though, to see what new TAS stuff they get going, and hopefully we'll get to see another Mario Maker segment. That was pretty fun to watch!

Thanks to all those in the GAF Twitch chat for all the company throughout the week!

Man I remember previous AGDQs letting the FF ending play out and people sharing their feels and stories for a while at the end. This felt weirdly corporate. Oh well.

Nice AGDQ, got some awesome, memorable moments for sure.

One of my favorite weeks in gaming. I'm in NoVA for the holidays, but always leave before these start. I'm gonna plan to stay a bit longer to see it in person next year (that is, if they do it in VA again next year)

Another year, another AGDQ finished.

Don't forget that the NeoGAF Twitch chat persits across the site, so you can continue to chat with everyone that was invited at any point (and it will be in use of course for SGDQ).

Also make sure you all drop by the Speedrunning Thread - got any runs you're watching or new records? Maybe you're taking up speedrunning yourself? Let everyone know! :)

Take care ladies and gents!

See you all for SGDQ on July 3rd - July 9th 2016!
Bumping

I hate work, missed so much of AGDQ. But at least I could see Resident Evil Remake and some other gems live.

Now it's time to watch VODs until SGDQ. Have to catch up on all the late night (in Germany) runs. Super Mario Maker, Bloodborne,....

1,2 million. Great job everyone!

Did we get any new records during the marathon? Anyone getting hype beating their own PB? Always love catching up on those moments.

Thanks for the drop of the speedrun thread. :)

I get so depressed when AGDQ finishes.

Gaf twitch chat? What's that?

The nearest thing I can think of is off stream in the practice room Xem got 33:02 on Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal which I think is WR but at least is their PB.

After watching so much AGDQ I always feel kind of empty when it's over.

Also hate that I missed the finale, it seems it ended earlier than previous years.

What was the final donation amount
Nvm found it over 1.2mill

No bonus stream again tho? Wonder why they don't do that anymore. Oh well. I always feel sad when these end because of how awesome they are. July for sgdq seems so far away!

I presume no bonus because of a few things, there's paid staff now so they don't get overtime, people who own the hardware, the hotel thinks this was only a week long event and might have other bookings, stuff like that.

it's a little upsetting as bonus was always fun to watch but that's how it is now

wow, that bloodborne run was not great.

What happened? I was sort of watching it from the corner of my eye and noticed at one point he was over his estimate. edit: oh unpatched run, that's garbage. Didn't they already do that at a previous GDQ?

The runner messed up once or twice, but no more than a standard marathon run. It was just ... the route was boring (most bosses skipped, a bit of duping time, and pre-patch load times).

Went to sleep and missed the end but although I was sick as fuck for most of the week, I glad I was able to watch quite a lot of runs this year. I think a lot of the main hyped games/races were pretty weak this year and the best stuff was in odds hours or were games that probably didn't get much attention. But thankfully it's easy to catch up via VODs/Youtube.

My faves based on
The Talos Principle
Battle Kid 2 thru to Battletoads. That entire block of nes games was the best.
Battleblock Theater
The Punchouts
Sonic Lost World
Axiom Verge
Mirror's Edge
Hotline Miami
Blast Corps
Secret of Mana
DKC 1/2
GTA 3
Pokemon Yellow/Blue
Stepmania
Awful games block
TASblock
Mario block (especially the Mario Maker race)
Mega man block

Worst
Final Fantasy stair climbers
MK 8
Banjo

Has the 1.00 Bloodborne run sucked as much as i was expecting?

Gonna catch SM later today anyway

Yeah it was bad. He died 3 like times, whilst over-levelled and cheesing the game.

I know they can't reset, and he was clearly nervous once he started failing some stuff.

Honestly, they should have accepted all-boss runners, 10x more entertaining and takes real skill. If they die, they die, run over. They could also take safer strats for marathons. It was a bad excuse TBH.

He fumbled a couple of times, but even if he hadn't it would have been boring as fuck. Bloodborne is fun to watch when it's a skilled player just destroying the game. Using lame skips and borderline godmode glitches just makes it incredibly dull.

Yep, I'd say the run itself wasn't even that bad for what it had to be. But there was a lot of commentary silence too, not that there was that much to say.

It was more like unpatched and sloppy, he got stuck in some areas and had to die or spawn out, he messed up a few times.

Felt like he never put any practice in before the event.

He said that an all boss run is still rough and hard to do well, yet it would have been 10 times better then any% unpatched.

Commentary for Gunvolt was great.

Anything with Blechy involved is worth a watch.

Why do I keep seeing comments focusing on the Bloodborne run being "unpatched"? It is weird because I never see complaints like that when runners use specific outdated versions of older games.

It's just an additional workload for the tech crew, who, after a week of crunching, just don't want to deal with it any more.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense.

Whatever happened to the bonus streams, anyway? Do they lose access to the main room or something? Just don't want to do them?

Just watched Kaizo Mario 3, btw, really impressive. Not super interesting commentary, but an obviously difficult game played skillfully.

That and I also assume getting bigger means more costly production. Which in turn means they can't go over budget. And while raising more money now is awesome part of me does miss the early years when they were just in peoples basements.

Noticably longer load times.
