PlayStation 4 hits 35.9 million sold through to end users

There is a difference between big Japanese publishers and big Japanese games. Even MGS is on Xbox this Gen and it sold worse than last Gen. There's also a declining on jap games and that's why they are low budget and almost all of them won't be launching on the west.
Very misinformed there buddy

Discussion about the impending doom of FF7R

Don't forget the SFV money hats

A typical Sony sales thread.

The thread calls for balls deep jokes and we answer. No serious discussions. No conspiracy theories. :P

Just watching from the sidelines
It's good entertainment
I think it's funny how we tend to get delusional and restless when GAF is sick of waiting for the NPD numbers to hit.

In my understanding who didn't have de budget was Ono, not capcom. But I'm not get in to this again. SF V is the second big Japanese game to hit this Gen so far.

It has been reported multiple times that Capcom was struggling financially. If the company is struggling, then it's no wonder why Ono, an employee of Capcom, would also have budget constraints prior to Sony jumping in to help out.

Your comments on Japanese games are also extremely laughable.

You know, you guys could go and play some games

Maybe...

Possibly...
I just said in the last page that I don't have access to my PS4 right now. And I really, really wanna play Arkham Knight now. :( Oh, wait, silly me, PS4 has no games. I've been playing phantoms of games.

Nonsense.

Actually I've been pretty wrapped up in Witcher 3 lately. Waited for all of the patches and DLC to hit, then picked it up on sale for PS4. Working out pretty well for me.
Yea I did the same, but want to finish Bastion and Life is Strange before I jump into a 100 hour game. Can't wait though, heard great things about it. And all the GOTY awards don't hurt lol

It's incredible. Reading and watching footage doesn't do it justice. One of those games that feels like it was a passion project for the team (which it was), and it shows. So much careful and insane attention to detail.

Anecdotal but fucking everyone the boy child knows all got the Battlefront PS4 bunduru for Xmas like he did. The force was strong with Sony at least where I live.

Fook!!! Man, I'm getting hyped now! Definitely finishing both of those this week so I can jump into W3 this weekend. I was actually debating whether I will go into it or MGSV first l, now I know which one is up first.

This is convincing me as well. I have 2 on the PC but have yet to play it. Steam's massive backlog sales, lol.

Do I need to play 2, or jumping into 3 is fine?

Lol... No games whatsoever, really can't understand these sales, the powaz of marketing!

I don't think Ps4 will peak in 2016, though, but 2017. I think that's when we'll get a slim, a next gen GTA game, Dragon Quesr and Resident Evil in Japan will be huge, the magical $199 price point, and an already huge lineup for new buyers to get into with VR having a year on the maker and a bundle being available for $500.

I also think Ps5 will be designed as closely as possible to Ps4 architecture and be fully b/c. The way Cerny and House and Shu talked at the beginning of this gen was almost like ps4 was a refresh button for Sony's gaming division. I think by the end of the gen, it will have a substantial amount of the best games from PS2 and PS1 era and Psnow for PS3 titles as well as remastered gsmes, making it an easy collector console since you can play so many generations of ps on it. Not predicting success for Ps5, that's just too uncertain with how much time passes in the tech world, but yeah I think ps4 doubles its sales early into 2017, and VR is successful enough that new buyers start getting the system. GTA6 for the U.S and Europe blows up, GT7 blows up in Europe, Dragon Quest and MH back on PS4 blows up in Japan. Sony should continue to break records this gen.

Aren't COD fan base migrating to ps4? You should not be so sure about popularity on the platforms. It's possible that "dudebros shooter fans" won't be buying either and sales of Japanese games like those in the west may be lower than last Gen...

I'm just saying...there have always been fans of Japanese games on PS platforms. Most Japanese publishers don't exactly have to depend on COD fans/FPS fans for sales one bit.

This makes no fucking sense. COD fan base migrating to ps4 doesn't mean they're replacing the fans of Japanese games.

Exactly, it's ridiculous.

Jumping in 3 is totally fine. I never finished 2 myself. They even give you the chance to retroactively decide events from Witcher 2 early on in the game if you choose to.

Just out of curiosity:
If a game like this is a console debut, does MS insist on the parity clause, too?
Or is this only for downloadable games / indies?
All Xbox developers agree to deliver launch, content, and feature parity when they sign on, and yes, that includes the Big Three.

"Maybe we're going to have some PlayStation Eye stuff, but that all depends on whether we can slip it past Microsoft. I might not be able to talk about this just yet..." said Ubisoft's Julian Gerighty, speaking of the Minority Report-style controls he'd implemented for the PlayStation version of EndWar. A feature that didn't make the final release, and was never spoken of publicly again, AFAIK.

But as you say, their current ability to enforce this abomination is somewhat limited by their install base. But people keep buying Bones, and developers keep signing on, so the parity clause continues to recover its strength, and may once again be able to veto innovative features on rival platforms as intended.

Bruh! Do you even Japaneese game?

Since last gen we've been getting games with Japaneese audio only with english subtitles, we've been getting visual novels as well I think it's a rarer occurance a Japaneese game doesn't jump overseas especially with the rise of Nippon Steam.

I don't know what to predict anymore, but 2016 PS4 will surely slow down, right?

I think 2016 will be Sonys peak year, although I doubt there will be much slow down after, because right now it's still picking up speed which is unbelievable.

It's still selling faster than the PS2, despite having stronger competition.

So it's not so much first class citizens but pulling all others down into second.

Hey, man, in a way, I was talking out of my ass, just listing a possibility. I'm not saying that Sony will drop the price to $249 this holiday season, but it's definitely possible. So remember, a possibility, not my prediction yet. ;)
word. well for them to make it $249 I'd have to see them make the official price this year $299. I honestly thought they'd keep it that way this year after BF.

This alone was worth the entire thread.
lol, he is right, y'know

Sure, but in Microsoft's defense, actually competing can be quite difficult, typically requiring both talent and creativity. It costs money too, especially when you gotta rent the talent and creativity. So it's far more efficient to simply rule that no one is allowed to outshine whatever effort you choose to put forth, and then bide your time until those who don't pay attention to details like this give you enough power to start enforcing it.

That's why Phil doesn't drop the clause. Even if they abandon the console space before they can really put it to use again, it may eventually be helpful in his upcoming battle against Steam & Friends. They wouldn't put an idiot in charge; Phil knows how to play the long game.

Sure. I don't say they are stupid. They fight with all measures and that's okay. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
It's a pity for them not being the market leader. In that case the parity clause would have been a powerful weapon. Right now, I am not so sure if it is really helpful as it might scare off developers and leave a sour taste with the informed minority of gamers. It surely isn't good for their reputation.
With the upcoming battle against Steam & Friends it should be the same.

In the age of digital commerce holding back strategies don't tend to work well. In fact it's one of the reasons this clause (however it exists now) gets so much flack.

You don't compete by trying to hold competitors back but by offering more. The parity clause isn't going to pay off for MS at all and in fact continues to negatively affect them.

To be fair reading comments from people like Spencer I get the feeling for some reason that clause is bound up in something deeper than just demanding parity. The impression is he'd like to drop it but can't so he tries to downplay it. Normally when a senior exec downplays company policy it's because its out of his control to change.

That aside on a personal note any company that over focuses on holding back the competition is the one I won't back. Not good for consumers and a lazy strategy. One MS developed when they had the power in the PC space to simply extinguish competition with this tactic. That doesn't work so well in consumer mass market though looping back to my initial point.

lol at FFVII Remake listed for 2016.

And he calls it "FFVII Remastered"

I am experiencing nerd rage.

Yeah, the guy gets a lot of the titles wrong actually, calling KOF15 "King of Fighters XIII" and such.

And that's not even anywhere near the full amount of games either, which is also insane.

But even that list is crazy

I doubt it very much too, but I think he thinks it could because they're splitting it up in to episodes. That said, there's 60 games in that list. Even if a big bunch of them don't make it (which they won't), there's still loads, too many even, and these are just exclusives.

So, how long is it until we can finally see this particular phrase abandoned?
The 360 4th year (2008, 2016 equivalent for the 360) was pretty weak actually all things considered (and as it was said already, for the first few years the 360 was actually behind the PS3 in WW sales launch aligned, and even non aligned in most cases, allowing the PS3 to catch up while a whole year behind).
Things wil start getting more "interesting" in 2017, but specially so in 2018 which would be when the Kinect hit on the 360 comparatively speaking (2010).

3rd year

November 2005 - November 2006 = 1st year

November 2006 - November 2007 = 2nd year

November 2007 - November 2008 = 3rd year

Yeah I know what you mean, but people often talk about calendar years, irrespective of which month the console launched its 1st year.

And people need to get their life together because it don't make sense.

if your baby is born Dec 31th 2015 you can't say that Jan 1st 2016 is in his/her 2nd year.

Holy shit. That is an incredibly disgusting policy. Should be illegal honestly.
