Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

if the character thread is anything like any other character thread on GAF, it'll be filled with people posting their half naked women. Hopefully there's just as many funny and cool looking characters.

I expect a two part Monster Factory from this.

It's probably the best I've seen.

Eh, it's no Korean character creator (take you pick, they're the best ever and the only good thing about 90% of korean MMO's). But it is quite excellent.

Yeah it's no korean mmorpg creator, but unlike games from say Bioware or Bethesda where you gotta struggle to make a main character that doesn't look like ass it's actually fairly easy to make good looking characters. And also just as easy to make silly looking ugly characters.

I think I'm gonna do a Meryl and Millie build this time around.

Ugh, but physical size works into carry options and speed...

HRMM....

Those the ones where you can make your character super-oily? I don't consider an oil slider to be an important feature. :D

"I WANT TO TREAT HIS ABS LIKE A SLIDE!!!!"

Monster Factory is the best thing Polygon has ever done.

Seriously though, I wish someone would just package up the APB character creator and license it out. It's just another level of in depth.

The butt sliders, however...

I'm all for variety, but you shouldn't discourage people from posting their half-naked women.

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE PERVERTS!

I disagree. Warrior is gimped as shit. They can't block, they can't roll-dodge, they can't double jump, they can't levitate, they can't use weapon skills when grabbing an enemy, and they only get 3 skills. That is some BS, really, and makes them the worst vocation by far. I only use warrior to unlock Augments like Clout, after that they go bye bye. I hope someone somehow mods the game to ungimp them.

Warrior has an amazing jumping attack, giant health pool, lots of stagger resistance, and pretty much every skill they have has stagger resistance or just complete i-frames.
Why do they need to roll dodge when they can just facetank without having their skills interrupted?

A warrior doesn't run, they are in there all the time, that's why they even have weapons that increase aggro on them.
And no other vocation can equip more than 3 skills per weapon anyway,

Good luck facetanking in early Hard Mode lol.

Can someone explain the pawn system really quick for a newbie? Will I able to use my buddy's main character as my pawn? Do I upgrade them or do they?

Simple, every Arisen has a pawn, (you custom make your main character(arisen), and your main pawn (pawn) once you enter a place called the rift stone area, you can hire your buddy's main pawn or anyone else.

there are some very unique pawns who could help you

You start the game and after a bit you're able to create your pawn, basically your permanent party member/personal hype man (or lady).

Later on you get the option to get more party members in your party (you can summon 2 extra pawns for help). If you have a friend that is playing the game, summoning their pawn is free of charge and you essentially use their pawn instead of the random generated ones from capcom which cost you money to 'hire' as your extra party members.

If someone summons your personal pawn as a party member, they adventure with them and whatever they get from drops/experience they bring back to you next time you log in as a present.

What stops you from summoning a high level pawn from a friend is that you get less experience with them around. So always try to have pawns that are no more than a few levels above/below you.

You'll use your friends main pawn as your own, and you cannot level them up or equip them. Only the person who owns the pawn can.

Because not taking damage > taking damage

And what KCroxton said.

Except mages and sorcerers, you mean?

Well hard mode was never the way the game was meant to be played, but that doesn't matter, warrior has enough skills that out reach and outprioritise anything that tries to come close, they also just stagger everything.

Because not taking damage > taking damage

Sry this is dumb, the class was meant for taking damage, if you are playing it trying to avoid damage you are doing it wrong.

We need the OT with an FAQ up ASAP, but to answer this question:

Pawns are your party members. One of them will be completely customized, leveled up, and made by you. Other people's pawns in your party won't level up, but will take their share of experience and bring it back to their master in the form of rift currency when you let them go for higher level pawns. You can go to a rift stone to recruit other people's pawns. If they're at or below your level(with a bit of upward leeway) you can recruit anomious pawns for free. High level pawns will cost you rift currency. However, your friends' pawns are more easily accessible and always free regardless of their level

I'm not sure anymore since I played vanilla DD and DA on ps3
but I can safely say that the warrior class is bottom tier.
But I guess that depends on what you are trying to fight, but over all it's bottom tier.

What they do depends on their inclinations. For instance typically for a fighter pawn one might want Scather to attack the biggest enemy around. A pawn tank works great with the right inclinations. I want to say it could be something around scather/guardian, but I'm not sure.
Also depends on the abilities you give them. If you just want them to pull aggro, give them a lot of the abilities that help do that. Pawns tend to draw heavy aggro from most enemies anyway, and abilities just kinda redouble that. Since pawns draw lots of aggro, I tend to avoid making them casters, because they far too often die by pulling. Making them tanks at least lets them survive while they're getting walloped. Later on, weapon enchantments tend to matter less (either due to immunity or enemies simply being weaker to pure physical) or you can simply enchant your weapons with the enchantment you want rather than one that's useless against the enemies (this happens typically when packs of enemies gather, due to weaknesses being pretty spread out across elements and enemies).

Been lurking around this thread and observing the excited opinions. I tried to get into DD:DA back when it first came out and couldn't really break the initial learning curve. Since then, I got really into Dark Souls and similar games, and I'm now extremely excited to get back into this game. Pre purchased, and I'll be adding everybody in the steam list, as well as researching how to get into this beast.

It's pretty silly to talk in tiers in this game, warriors are as good as you want them to be; I've done full playthroughs with every vocation and warriors are great.

Ahem... I take it you don't remember the Silver Chestplate:

SMH, Capcom.
The bad part is that this piece actually has good stats, and will likely be worth equipping for a while. The good part is that it's actually categorized as "clothing" (like padding, gambesons etc.) so you can hide it with an actual proper armour. Phew...

lol. I definitely did, but I checked myself when I said "all, if not most" so HA. But you're def right about the clothing part, it's probably why I forgot.

Yeah, there are no "bad" vocations. They all work but they have different strengths and playstyles.

I don't like this thread title. Every time I see "Dragon's Dogma" and then "LIVE" at the end of the title, I keep thinking they released the game early. And then I keep dying a little on the inside.

Reached friend limit finally. Bring it on Friday.

Their proud and noble traditions are threatened on all sides. For you to propose this violence against them is grossly inconsiderate.

:'(

Heal the world! Make it a better place!!! For you and for me and the guy who has his female char running around in underwear.

THERE ARE! PEOPLE DYING! IF YOU CARE ENOUGH FOR THE LIVING! MAKE A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU AND FOR ME (and the pervs)

Try a solo run with a warrior :o(
Try fighting the UR dragon/flying enemies with a warrior ;0(

Again the warrior is not bad , but you wont use him for the important parts battles of the game or BBI

sorry Reizo it's just a well known fact.

from the wiki

Magical Vulnerability: The warrior lacks magic defenses, leaving them open to high damage spells.

Skill Inflexibility: Warriors have some really good skills, but are limited to only 3 of them. Players must carefully decide which skills suit their style the best.

Slothful: They tend to have a slower movement speed because of the weight of their equipment. Their offensive skills are executed slowly and need a bit of timing as well as aiming sometimes.

Being Left Open: The Warrior utilizes skills that have very narrow fields of attack, often directly in front of him. Oftentimes, a Warrior will find themselves slamming their weapon into nothing but dirt, then waiting to recover from the powerful swing.

Few Defensive Skills: While the Warrior can draw in enemies like the Fighter, they lack the ability to block attacks as a tank; they rely on high HP, Armor and Exodus Slash to soak up damage instead.

No double jump or levitation: The warrior's weak jumping ability makes reaching some ledges, treasure chests, and obstacles very frustrating.

No ranged attacks: Some critically important targets, such as the Ur-Dragon's wing tip "hearts", are utterly unreachable for the Warrior and Fighter classes. In addition, floating enemies like Wights and the Dark Bishop cannot be attacked until they conveniently float down to ground level.

Limited range of motion: Dragonkin hearts located on the chest and back can be frustrating for Warriors to strike. Flying enemies also pose a problem for the Warrior.

Hi!

Could I run the game maxed out 1080p60fps using i5 4590 gtx970 8Gig 1600mhz thank you!

From all we've heard: Easily. You could run it at 1440p60FPS if you wanted to. You could even run it at 4k if you don't mind some drops or turning down the draw distance.

Yh definitely

Holy shit you just made my day. I've adored the 360 version but framerate was bugging me a lot. I just got a new build and I'm too happy to finally play this game like its meant to play.

Currently downloading CS GO and have to wait to payday for Dragons Dogma, I just can't wait.

Thank ou guys for answering, I'm so pumped to try new games right now and test the 970, the thing was expenssive.
