Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

Is there magic in this game? How cool are magic classes?

Decided to tweak my pawn:

there is magic

Second this. The Korean games I've seen tend to make everyone look like super models with no imperfections

To be fair, that's kinda up to the people who use it. Yes, many people go for the super model look, but the editors are quite in-depth and allow you to be much more diverse than that.

I have the game on PS3 and I've played quite a bit of it but I'm waiting for the PC release to fully delve into it and play through the entire thing. I'm having a hard time deciding on how I'm going to create my character and what class(es) i'm going to play. If I do create a Mystic Knight, Warrior, Fighter than I'm going to have a bigger character but if I go with the Assassin or Magick Archer I definitely want my character to be smaller. I really don't know, so many decisions!

Try a solo run with a warrior :o(
Try fighting the UR dragon/flying enemies with a warrior ;0(

I've done both of those, and it's really not a big deal. Flying enemies just take a bit more patience, and you'll be surprised at how fucking far arc of obliteration actually reaches, it knocks wyrms out of the sky in one hit, leaving them open for another hit that instantly staggers them again; stagger loop > deliverance death.

Magic vuln:
You can just equip things with magick defence, heck you can reach 100% dark defence with a certain armour set which makes the UR dragon breath do exactly 0 damage

Skill inflexibility:
Never felt this was a problem, but ok

Slothful/being left open:
Ehh, I don't see how timing an attack is a problem, many vocations have skills that charge up, also the jumping attack is lightning fast.

Defensive skills:
This is only a problem if you don't use the warrior's biggest asset: staggering everything and using their reach to do it.

No double jump/levitate.
Ehh, ok.

No ranged attacks/limited range of motion (seriously these points are just repeating themselves):
Yes, patience is all that's required.

Also bringing up a warrior's weaknesses sound like all of them would be remedied by just using the game's systems and actually bringing pawns...

That list from the wiki is terrible, its primarily subjective "If you are bad at the game" stuff
Pretty much...

Again the warrior is not bad , but you wont use him for the important parts battles of the game or BBI

sorry Reizo it's just a well known fact.

from the wiki

Magical Vulnerability: The warrior lacks magic defenses, leaving them open to high damage spells.

Skill Inflexibility: Warriors have some really good skills, but are limited to only 3 of them. Players must carefully decide which skills suit their style the best.

Slothful: They tend to have a slower movement speed because of the weight of their equipment. Their offensive skills are executed slowly and need a bit of timing as well as aiming sometimes.

Being Left Open: The Warrior utilizes skills that have very narrow fields of attack, often directly in front of him. Oftentimes, a Warrior will find themselves slamming their weapon into nothing but dirt, then waiting to recover from the powerful swing.

Few Defensive Skills: While the Warrior can draw in enemies like the Fighter, they lack the ability to block attacks as a tank; they rely on high HP, Armor and Exodus Slash to soak up damage instead.

No double jump or levitation: The warrior's weak jumping ability makes reaching some ledges, treasure chests, and obstacles very frustrating.

No ranged attacks: Some critically important targets, such as the Ur-Dragon's wing tip "hearts", are utterly unreachable for the Warrior and Fighter classes. In addition, floating enemies like Wights and the Dark Bishop cannot be attacked until they conveniently float down to ground level.

Limited range of motion: Dragonkin hearts located on the chest and back can be frustrating for Warriors to strike. Flying enemies also pose a problem for the Warrior.
I agree. I've never played as a red class for long because it doesn't have any ranged capabilities. I know you can spring board/launch from team mates but I was never much one for that. I'm a yellow class player primarily because they don't rely on others to be able to hit the enemy.

I also get bored with the 3 skill maximum. 6 would make it so much more fun.

I think I'm definitely going to start out with Strider, it just seems like great fun.
It will be hard not choosing that again, I love playing yellow classes.

I'm not sure if they have patched the rusty weapons (yes the weapons you will start out with) but they were extremely over powered when you equip for example a lv up bow on a pawn with the right bow skill to throw multiple arrows. but DD weapon effects have a lot to do with your classes you will play. I love this game!

Today I woke and looked outside again
But the sky looked the same to me
Something told me that this world had changed
Couldn't figure out what did it mean

Some say to get out fast, looks like it's gonna last
Get all your things and fly (DON'T LEAVE NOTHING BEHIND)
Some said it'll be OK, just go ahead and stay
Be sure to drink your iodine

The wind is pushing me, into the clouds again
I feel the blood in my veins
Time is running free, I feel like letting go
Just like the Dangan

Striders are nuts.

So you're essentially a rogue. You're speedy and nimble, absolute lightning in melee and when crossing the field. You climb obstacles and monsters like nobody else can, your melee damage is brilliant because you have access to so many good options. Then there's your bow, which can be pulled out to rain hell down on the enemy at a moment's notice and ensures that you are never in a position where you can't fight back.. I'm finding it very hard to play other vocations because once you get used to being Wolverine, everything else is just so slow in comparison.

Niiiiice! Tomorrow can't come quickly enough.

I just got this. When is the unlock? I was hoping early mornng UK time as I'm going to be up until 7am. Tomorrow I'm at work all night and I might only get a few hours in the afternoon. Regardless I'm looking forward to it. Tried the PS3 demo ages ago and liked it but never got it.

If I like playing as a spellsword, would the Mystic Knight be a good starting class?

Maybe with an archer or sorcerer pawn?

You can't start off as a Mythic Knight, only as a Fighter, Strider or Mage. If you want to be a spellsword, I suggest starting off as a Fighter, learning your melee abilities and then later on become a Mystic Knight a.k.a The Shining Turret of Doom.

Can't wait until this beeeeeeeauty unlocks. Never had the pleasure of playing the expansion content either so should be good fun.
