Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Peter Rosas said:
"For Necalli, we envisioned an Aztec or Central American warrior. We thought about what would make him look tribal, mythological and ancient and went from there. As Necalli is an ancient warrior, he comes from a time when warriors were more vicious. As such, we made sure that his move set reflects the brutality of this different era. The goal with Necalli was to create a visceral character that was the antithesis to Ryu, who tends to be more reserved."

As well as being the boss, I'm feeling that Necalli is going to be some sort of Patient Zero of the Satsui No Hado that Shadowloo/Illuminati have gotten their hands on.

Disappointing if true, but at the same time not unexpected. Having an SF2 character first would probably be the safest way to start the DLC wave, although I can't commend Capcom for going for another SF2 character when there's eight already in the main roster. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Guile was second.

I figured it would likely be an SF2 character that would be the first DLC fighter (although I assumed it would be Guile). The launch window of a game is when DLC sells the best and there's like an overlap to the kind of people who are going to put away Street Fighter V for good after a few weeks (thus only buying the first DLC char) and the kind of people who are most interested in Street Fighter 2 characters. I'm most excited for Alex and Urien but I know that the people who will buy those two are going to buy them no matter when they come out.

Frankly, I want Guile as the first character. There's three or so characters I'm interested in playing in the base roster and I don't want to juggle between them AND Alex or Urien. I'd rather save them a few months in when I want to try somebody new.

Yeah this is why I thought it was expected. I guess I put too much faith in the list shown at PSX, although Capcom haven't confirmed what order the DLC characters are yet so this could all be nothing. And yeah I thought that if they were going to start with an SF2 character it was going to be Guile too.

I said this in the beta thread as well, but this seems like the better place to discuss it.

Why do we assume the seasons 2 and beyond will only have 6 characters?

That's honestly kind of a small number, and I'm thinking that the first way this year is only 6, because were also getting the full game with 16 in it this year.

I'm actually thinking were going to get more than 6 next year.

They're releasing a character every couple months so it checks out with their current cadence.

Besides 6 characters per year is a lot. Most FG revisions don't get that many.

Not sure if it's been posted but there's a character breakdown here that's full of interesting info.

These are pretty cool. I appreciate where they are going with Bison:
"M. Bison’s look has fluctuated throughout the different versions of Street Fighter. We wanted this M. Bison to look like “psycho power personified,” which is why he now sports a psychotic grin, white eyes and bigger build than that of Street Fighter IV. M. Bison’s move set has always been unique and pretty hard-hitting. As we approached this version as the "strongest M. Bison ever," we give him some new attacks that are psycho power infused, yet also create a lot of impact when they make contact. Street Fighter V has M. Bison planning his grandest scheme yet. However, you’ll have to wait for more information on the details of the scheme."

Here is the only word we have on what size the next seasons will be, but it's hardly a concrete confirmation:

A lot of it will depend on once the game’s out in the wild, and if the model we make comes to fruition and I can be proven right about it being the right choice. Simple maths suggests it’d take five years to get to the roster of Street Fighter IV, and we want to keep the game going for that amount of time. We want to support it as long as we can, we honestly will have to see – we don’t know anymore than anyone else does how it’s going to turn out next February, once we do this completely new way of doing things.

So he's assuming it would be six a year but not confirming it would be six a year.

Six is plenty and that way they also don't spread themselves thin. The last things we need are garbage characters because the team needed to move on to the next one. By the end of 2019 the roster size would be 40 if they stick with six characters a year.

More well balanced and good looking characters is better than rushed and badly balanced characters.

I suppose I can ease up about that kind of stuff. What truly matters is that we get the info.

"Are you excited about Balrog in SFV?"

"Yes, I actually got to try him him at Capcup and I liked what they've done with him"

Where did they say no other dlc characters where playable at Capcup or even imply? Like why are you guys even latching on to that?

Kind of surprised they wouldn't release one of the SF3 characters first, seeing none are in SFV at the moment... But maybe he meant Balrog as in Vega?

Yea, I love his new walking and idle animations. While they may be slow they look badass, like he know's exactly what he's doing.

Btw, is there a particular reason why F.A.N.G is not being shown very much?

The only places we've seen him is that IGN video,2 or 3 japanese events and his reveal trailer.

Even in that UK event that just happened, they weren't allowed to use F.A.N.G.

He just needs a teleport backdash and Beta 1 Psycho Inferno, and he'll be the best SF character ever for me.

Capcom isn't saying...you could try Tweeting ComboFiend.

I think they know he's the most popular and unique of the new characters to the franchise so they want to leave something to be desired on launch day. It's also possible they were still doing finishing touches on him even up to the reveal

I found these two kind of telling:

"Vega is one of the four generals of Shadaloo, so how could he not be included?"
"There are many people out there who want to use Zangief and only Zangief, so we’re making sure they get their character yet again."

I'm sure others will disagree, but I translate that as "sorry, we now realize that we misread the fanbase a bit."

Not sure if serious.

What do you mean?

How so?

TBH, I feel like he's straight up talking about Snake Eyez in the second comment.

Yeah, I got confused by this too. Out of all the new characters F.A.N.G has had the most mixed reactions.

Really? I've only read overwhelmingly in favour of positive stuff about fang (besides people saying his bird super looking whack). Maybe on first few days after the reveal trailer it was mixed but after ign released that combofiend fang video people seemed to be all along the lines of him being a unique and interesting character. Many also straight up said that he would be their main or 2nd char for sure. Laura seemed to be the most popular at first but once many tried her they found her to be a little plain. These were my impressions from twitch streams and forums last month for sure.

So maybe the last wildcard capcom is keeping in the deck to keep us hungry until we get closer to launch day. Hopefully he's in the last beta.

The reveal thread for F.A.N.G was largely 50/50 on who liked him and who hated him. As of this moment I'm still one of the people that hate him and I know a few people who do as well. That besides, I think it's far too premature to say whether or not a character is 'the most popular' when a) the game isn't even out and b) hardly anyone has even played as them.

Probably been asked before but I'm just too lazy to go through the whole thread and I suck at searching apparently...

Will the preorder costumes be available to buy/unlock or are these exclusive to preorders?

They haven't said anything per-say but if Street Fighter 4 is anything to go by, these costumes will be available for everyone else at some point in the future.

If anyone is getting the Best Buy Cammy code and wants Bison from Amazon...remember me on launch day.
Just saying.

Again I was definitely speaking to who's the most popular of the 4 new characters and you can definitely get a sense of popularity based on 1) how many posts are related to the character 2) weighing the positive/negative views of the convos. Part of fangs "buzz" is probably that he is the last one to be revealed and hasn't been playable yet.

There's no harm in talking about popularity of characters before launch. We've already had online betas where you could see the ranking boards of the most common characters in the top 1000+ ranked players. Of course it's not a perfect picture that takes everything into account. Capcom has the data to see for themselves who were the most played toons.

No one's gonna argue against the fact that until the game is launched will we find out for certain! Anyways I hope fangs in the next beta!
