LTTP: Destiny.

Or more specifically, Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition.

I got on sale last black friday for a good price, but started playing it two weeks ago. I only bought it to try it out, not expecting to get hooked into it. Dag nabbit I was hooked. The last game to get me this hooked was mario kart 8.

It is a grind, the most enjoyable grinding I have ever experienced in a videogame. Mechanically it's a lot of fun and while I hear it has plenty of glitches i've only experienced very minor stuff.

I really hope it gets another 'taken king' like expansion because I can see myself playing this for the long haul.

Its the best 7.5 game i played. Sure there is alot of things about the game that could be better. But had some great times with the game. Met some great people also. And the raids really felt like something i never experienced before on consoles. The moment that your team beats Oryx, Crota or Atheon after many tries and figuring out mechanics etc. It is something else.

I have finally stopped playing it. Hopefully the next DLC doesn't come out until AFTER Division. Regardless I'm considering dropping Destiny as my main chicken for Fable Legends.

TTK was the best and worst expansion.

HoW was the worst and best expansion.

Of course I'm talking about how it started to its end game.

Hey TEJ!

Destiny is a lot of fun! I still play it every week.

I'm guessing you bought it on Xbox. Most gaffers play on PS4.

There should be some new content in March-May.

But the next big drop should be a new game during Fall 2016, probably September.

My summer consisted of this game and this game only. I bought the game when it first came out with the Season Pass, and played it until December. After December I dropped it. Then come the end of may with the House of Wolves I started back up, took a tiny break at the beginning of June and went full dick into it after E3.

Played, and played and played. I went into the 20th or so OT on GAF and found some really amazing people. I think that was what really gripped me: the community. Some of you guys? Were awesome! Actually, all of you guys. I didn't meet a single person that I thought "I don't like you."

TTK came out and I played for a good while with friends but I felt there was something lacking. The OG content that felt magical somehow was being replaced by this new stuff. Like completely replaced. I also don't understand some of the levelling choices and some other UI things. The people who jumped on the train when TTK came out won't know what VoG is or in other words they'll know what it is but they won't do it because it doesn't matter anymore. At the beginning of November I said adios and stopped playing for a while. When SRL came out I played a bit but that's it, then I got back off.

When Destiny 2 comes out or whatever it's called I'll most likely be there for the full time. Season Pass and everything. I'm ready for the new adventure it'll throw at me.

This is called the honeymoon phase. Put in a bit of time and the warts start to show. Destiny is my all-time favorite game, but I hate how Bungie manages it.

On vacations I find myself saying "I'm finally going to play through X and y" but all I do is fire up Destiny and play all week. So far it's my Halo 3 of this gen.

I'm kinda done with the RNG-factor of things. I know that it's part of the 'genre', but I stopped repeatedly playing the same content in the hope of a certain loot-drop. I played some SRL when that launched but haven't touched the game since (besides some Xur-aquirements). My time is limited, and some other games deserve some love. I gladly jump back into Destiny every now and then, and will probably invest more time in it when new content arrives.

I saw you can make a 25 pre-made with ttk.
Is this suggested for your first character or should you care for the first 25 levels story-wise?

It's set in motion what I hope we get from more developers, and we're about to get Destiny 2.0 via The Division.

IF rumors are true then Destiny 2 from Bungie is around the corner this year, or at least we'll see a trailer at E3 maybe.

I expect big things in the way of perhaps taking your first Destiny character to be a "legacy" character or something. Maybe even port him/her over, but with the option to recreate what they look like with way more facial options. See Beards.

For all the hate it gets it is my most time played game of this console gen.

from the sounds of things you're not even close to where the 'grind' starts though.

Destiny is great to play casually but I feel like the more invested I got into it the more frustrated I became. PVP is fun until you start taking it seriously, PVE is fun until you start playing 3 characters every week and getting crap raid loot on all 3.

I'll definitely be back at some point so hopefully by then Bungie has figured out what they want to do with their endgame progression.

I dunno what it is but I am avoiding it. I bought Destiny at launch and enjoyed it, as barebones as it was. I got TTK but I am yet to jump in and play it.

I think it's because of my backlog of games (MGSV, RotTR, Mad Max, AC Syndacate) that I really want to play and complete but I'm worried that of I do go into TTK I'll just play that. But I also feel like I am missing out but not diving in.

It's a conundrum.

Congrats! You have discovered one of the best and most addictive shooters this gen. Enjoy it and try to find a group of people to play with. The game is much more enjoyable with friends. When you are ready to raid try joining a clan, I highly recommend DoD (DadsofDestiny) but there are many other friendly clans. Reddit, LFG and GAF to a certain extent are all good option.

What are some good ones on the xbox one? Assuming those are just ps4 clans.

So it's still worth starting now I take it OP? My main concern is that all my friends would be godly level already while I'm trying to start up and grind my way to the top (heh). Getting a PS4 early next month I hope.

Oh, and can I transfer my guy from the 360 trial version, now that I'm threadjacking?

Destiny is amazing. People give it a hard time, but when you are playing with the same groups of ppl night in night out, it can't be beaten.

The100.io is a great way to find people to play with, if you know ahead of time what times you want to play. It is a bit of up front work to try to find the good groups on that site. But once you do find one, then it makes finding good players to play with really really easy.

This depresses me. A couple of months back I started forcing myself to finish games I started and once you get going, you'll never go back to only playing one thing. There are just so many wonderful, joyous experiences out there.

We'll find out if the Division will take over for Destiny in a couple weeks. The Destiny Beta sold me on being a Warlock (sadly, beardless, but there's always Destiny 2) and I am hoping that the Division will create that same sort of hype for me.

OP, I'm on PS4 or I would happily play some Destiny with you. Enjoy the grind, but keep fun in mind. One can too easily obsess over the numbers and cease to enjoy the game.

DoD has a pretty big footprint on both consoles. They are separated by regions and have plenty of members. They vary from competitive to chill. I am currently a member of DoDGhostX1. Although to be fair I haven't been playing much since late October. Reddit and LFG are both good resources to find other likeminded players.

I'll find a good group after i buy a decent headset. Still using the crappy one that came with the system.

I think i'll join one that's more relaxed.

I'm LTTP for this game too, actually, having only started two weeks ago as well. I'll admit that I used the level 25 boost the legendary edition gives you and with my friends giving me tips, I've managed to climb from 160 light level to around 295 in that time. It's definitely a fun game and a good one with friends, but I feel like this is a game more appreciated when everyone is going through it at the same time from the beginning, discovering its secrets and looking forward to more content.

Monster Hunter will always hold this title for me.

I just deleted all my stuff and characters yesterday. Destiny is one of my favorite games all-time and it makes me sick to say that. The way the game constantly disrespects your time and effort is insulting. As much as I enjoyed the gameplay I'm going to think long and hard about whether or not I'm going to come back with Destiny 2 whenever that comes out.

That's true of any game that has a strong focus on PvE or PvP multiplayer.

Yeah. Judging by some of the responses it sounds like the part i'm in is super fun but that doesn't last very long :/

A lot of the mistakes/grievances with OG Destiny have been fixed/alleviated by now, so you are playing a much better game than what folks played at launch. Not sure how far you are though, I do remember the grind being fun for a while as well, it wasn't until a certain point where it became tedious, which again, has been adjusted somewhat so it may remain not-as-tedious and possibly still fun, I wouldn't know though, I've only played the OG. There came a point where I was like "wait... I think I'm addicted in the worst way possible, this isn't fun anymore yet I keep on coming back...?"

Pretty good gameplay but ultimately ruined by a dev that veers between incompetence and having a complete disrespect for its user base.

I invested quite a bit of time in the game as well, and then you start to get to the endgame where Bungie just destroy so much of what makes the game fun. The grind gets tiresome and quests for certain weapons become tedious..which is all the more troubling when you get a random drop that is more powerful than whatever you're getting.

Have fun with it though! Hopefully you won't get soured on the game like I did.

I loved Destiny and put a ton of hours into it with friends, but they lost me after the dance moves DLC and sparrow racing. Haven't played in a few months now.

You will get to hate that when you found out that is 100% random, it doesn't matter what you do, you can be an entire strike afk and get an exotic, or be the best player ever and get nothing.

I get really tired of that and I stop played, I really enjoyed at the beginning, so I would recommend it for sure, but sooner or later you get really burn of it.
I never get to try TTK, I drop off in Crota, and I will not come back until Destiny 2.

Don't get it twisted. I played for 1000+ hours. That's the most I've played a game ever in 25+ years of being a gamer so there is something to be said for that. Early on when you are getting new stuff and all of it helps you everything is great. But you get to a point where only certain activities are your avenues for improvement and they waste large chunks of your time constantly for essentially nothing in return.

Not to mention Bungie's complete incompetence when it comes to managing the game. Weapon changes every few months simply because people use one more than others. Lame shit like $5 dance moves. And completely obliterating anything that might benefit the player ASAP while letting other issues that don't linger for months (they never fixed the bug that prevents you from running when you press L3... this has been there since launch).

Diablo 3 is my second most played game ever and its so much better in this regard. Destiny 2 with a Diablo 3 style approach to end game would be the best ever.

I've spent over 2000 hours with this game. The gunplay and raids are top notch. PVP is the real shit show imo. I come back to the game every Tuesday to raid with my friends and that's about all I can stand at this point, but again over 2000 hours with the game so I've gotten my money's worth. I'm sure we'll hear about Destiny 2 at E3 even though I think they need to take a break from that stage, I also think they need to cut off PS3/360 and use a different engine and also take a bit more time with making the sequel.

Best shooter on consoles. The gameplay is amazing.

Agreed. Wolfenstein: TNO is often given the crown, but I barely finished the campaign and never returned to it, whereas the gameplay in Destiny continues to keep me coming back. I'm not even doing it for the gear, I just like to do the bounties and patrols for fun.

Yeah, the mechanics are the only reason I could put up with the grind. Only reason I stopped playing was Fallout, then my PS+ sub expired, then I started playing Ffxiv. I can see myself getting Destiny 2 when it hits, because I know the same group of dudes will all be buying it and addicted again, so the playgroup will be there.

Unfortunately it does not. I enjoyed TTK for around 15 hours and then the grind got to me. My friends are still playing but I realized I have better things to do with my time than pray for good drops. Bungie being incompetent didn't help matters (changing a weapon's damage by .04%? Really?)

Might be back for Destiny 2 depending on how I like The Division/the changes Bungie make.
